    Bummed that this CLASSIC interview was cut right before Bobby said "...now after taxes..." followed by a cut to Bill and Mickey's hilarious interview where they took the fame & fortune riff next level: Bill &; Mickey in furs and sunglasses smoking stogies talking about how they were hanging out with Eddy Murphy and Mike Tyson now. They actually stole the show in that Tom Davis interview/sketch. I used to have the whole 12/31/87 simulcast, taped on a VCR that I had purchased specifically for that purpose, but sadly lost the tape in a fire many years ago.

    After they stopped playing there were fireworks off to their left center. Derek knelt down on one knee and held his guitar upright and Gregg came over to his other side and put his hand on Derek’s shoulder. Why I didn’t take a picture of that is beyond me. It was iconic. I wonder if someone got a shot of that. We were all a little distracted by the fireworks being close to the 4th of July that night.

    Might I add that everyone is playing it so as Dickey planned it. Even better than Dickey who does a sweet job alongside Jack Pearson, who's untouchable. Dickey makes up in fire through his occasional rhythmic lapses. It's not an entirely natural fit for Dickey, who excels in country/blues rock. But it's a daring experiment on his part nonetheless. The result is a splendid tune that ranks up there with Liz Reed. ABB continued to play all those great Dickey songs that carried the band's success forward, even after his firing. Great Southern got along fine without resorting to playing any of Gregg's material. D'ja notice?

    I remember this tour. I saw them in Columbus, Ohio. Susan opened. The crowd was generally unaware that Dickey had been asked to leave. Jimmy was in a tough spot. Derek is / was a promise unfulfilled. Too bad.

    • @texasdragonfly50
      @texasdragonfly50 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes Jimmy was in a tough spot. He was very reluctant at first. And according to Kirk Jimmy and Derek took a few shows to link. Once they did, watch out. I disagree that Derek was a promise unfulfilled. IMO he was integral to the overall success of that tour. I posted “Jessica” from 8-30-00 and it smokes as did that whole show. It was the last show of that tour and they were gelling well by then. Woody’s funeral was the next day.

    • @greenman7612
      @greenman7612 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeff, I just went over to listen to Jessica. Wow, that’s a good performance! Jimmy was terrific. It’s been 22 years and a lot of shows were attended after then. But this point, I’d like to have seen more of Jimmy Herring. In fact, I’d like to have seen Jimmy play with some one like Lee Roy Parnell.

I get to see Oteil and Derek and I don't know..just the way it was filmed was really cool. I too would love to trade, unfortunately all I have rn are a few of the later shows from 2011. One of the ones with EC too...lots of audio shows too. Well, a few. I'm too busy and not rich enough to pay what some of these people are asking for 1 show. I figure if I pick up a 2-3 disc 230-3 hr show for 20 or less I'm doing ok. But even at that, if you were to add it up, I mean they recorded MOST IF NOT ALL of their shows..anyway I'm rambling. I'll try emailing you. Thx for this tho. Seriously.
