Thank you for the vid. My tube doesn't exit the cowl. The owner before me cut it flush and it got sucked up.

This a well done vid, thank you! Tell me though, how the heck does one re-attache that black grommet/connector at the rear drain tube once it's off, clipped and cleaned??

I might try cutting the tips off before I remove my headliner to seal the drain connections My thinking is drains are intended to move water not hold it and if the water is moving that joint might no be leaking The string trimmer line is a great point as well I’ll have to try that on my DS front

We have a 2009 Jetta Station wagon TDI with panoramic sunroof that has a leak problem too. The car has spent most of its life in the garage when not in use, except for the last year. Thanks for your video.

How did you get the black grommet to seat back in. I can’t get it back in for the life of me

Great info, currently my driver side front and rear carpets get wet after a rain. You said you used silicone when you attached the rubber hose to the white fitting. Did you also use silicone to reattach the white fitting to the sunroof drain? Can you please let me know what parts you needed to remove in order to pull down the headliner to access the rubber tubes? Thanks

Hey Doug, sorry for the late reply. I did not use silicone to reattach the white fittings to the sunroof drains, just the hoses that go into white fittings. As far as parts I had to remove-the front grab handles & the rear plastic trim piece that holds up the back of the head liner. I loosened (but not removed) all the pillar covers, & front grab handles. I’m happy to report there is still no leaks. Good luck!

Thank you for the video. Unfortunately, I’ve asked the dealer many times to see if there’s any recall for the moon roof drains. They’ve addressed the moon roofs on newer VWs. I guess they’re still licking their wounds from the TDI scandal. Anyways, yeah I did the rear drains last year and replaced the majority of the rear line with high pressure marine hose and clamps. Unfortunately, the silicone will fail. I made the mistake not addressing all 4 drains and as such have to repair the fronts bc I got some water on the driver side. Thank you again.

You just helped someone, We had rain for solid two weeks and the 2014 VW jetta sportwagon I just purchased has 6 inches of water in the spare tire area, I just pulled one of the drains at the bottom of the spare tire area to get it all out and will be checking the sunroof drain lines in the morning, the first idea I had a problem was fogging on the inside of the windows, Thanks for the heads up on how to get to these.

    • @TeenageShutdown01

Oh yes, I would dread seeing moisture or frost on the inside of the windows. Good luck with the car & thanks for replying.

Where does the front drain line exit the vehicle?
