    The head assembling screws were changed for safety reasons. The old type screws threaded into blind holes in the ratchet head. During assembly If any oil or grease is trapped in the blind holes turning the screws in builds up enough hydraulic pressure to blow out a chunk of sharp metal from the top of the ratchet head with great force. SNAP-OFF! This is not good if you are holding it in your hand at the time. My former Snap-on dealer John L. had this happen to him. His hand was cut, stitched up, and bandaged.

    Bureaucracy bro and In my opinion and experience, you never wanna deal with the service center directly always ship it I know it takes longer, but I’ve just never had any issues that way I hate that Dewalt are such sticklers on the receipts and much prefer the Milwaukee warranty process where the sticker on the Tool has a date code in it and if you don’t have your receipt five years from that date, the tours warranty on most of their power tools there are exceptions but that’s the same as DeWalts three-year warranty etc until recently the 923 was actually the most powerful when it comes to sub, compact compact impact wrenches but with the new 2562 and 2563. 3/ 8 & 1/2 inch Milwaukee M 12 stubby impact wrenches just came out and they are beasts

      Yea, it was my first time dealing with it. I'll keep that in mind. Thank you!

  • @jamesstobaugh
    @jamesstobaugh 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    OK, here’s my thoughts if the service center were to open it up and inspect for a problem they would have to charge that time and they can’t charge DeWalt if there’s no problem currently with the device they would have to charge you and then you would be mad because you don’t want to pay anything for a defective item so they need it to be broken completely so that when they do Inspect it, there is a valid reason and they can charge Dewalt for the time. Remember this is a company after all they’re not a charity and that’s just the reality of it.

    • @stangculture
      @stangculture 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, technically, there is a problem. Impact shouldn't stop working completely out of nowhere. Then, a couple of days later, it starts working like normal. Own multiple DeWalt impact and never had it happen to any but this. Now, if they open it up, maybe there a loose connection? Something corroded or burnt? I mean an inspection of some sort. Maybe this first-generation impact had problems because, at this point, I have an impact that might wanna work sometimes, maybe not depending on how it feels. And to me, that's not normal Dewalt standards. But to a degree, I get what you are saying.

  • @TOOL_TECHNICAL
    @TOOL_TECHNICAL 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks for sharing your experience. Hopefully if you post which location in particular denied your service, Dewalt can have a conversation with them regarding the matter. Otherwise you may have to swap over platforms. If you want lifetime coverage ridgid has very capable impacts and cordless ratchets.

    • @stangculture
      @stangculture 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It sucks to switch platforms because I'm a big fan of DeWalt, and this is the only impact I have bought from them that's giving me problems. But knowing they are the only place I have to deal with if something goes wrong sucks. They didn't outright deny it more like no effort whatsoever to try and figure out the problems. Telling the customer it's better to completely break it before you bring it in, Intermittent problem, I guess they don't deal with or want to deal with. I don't agree with that.

    • @TOOL_TECHNICAL
      @TOOL_TECHNICAL 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stangculture it does suck to switch, I personally have an impact in 4 platforms just so if one brand does me wrong I'm not having to drop thousands switching all my tools to another line. hopefully you get it fixed soon. dewalt has the xr 961 which in theory is the strongest cordless impact.

    For fixed head, something like the Gearwrench 90T (or cheaper Quinn version of the same ratchet) is more than enough for hobby use. Decent quality, strong mechanism, low backdrag and low arc swing. Once you get into the locking flex etc, the QC variances start to become more obvious vs the tool truck ratchets, but they're still perfectly usable and decent value You can buy half a dozen decent ratchets for the price of 1 tool truck ratchet Projectfarm videos prove all the decent brands exceed ASME specs and you shouldn't break a 3/8" or 1/2" unless you abuse them with a cheater pipe. Breaker bars are cheap.

    • @scod3908

    • @stangculture
      @stangculture 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Great point, I thought about that comparison before. Multiple decent ratchets compared to 1 really good ratchet. For the most part, it makes sense to get multiple decent ratchets compared to 1 for the price you're paying. For me personally, I just like to have a couple of very solid ratchets. Matco and Gearwrench are very comparable, I just like the color and feel of matco better. I love the purple from Matco. Eighty8 feels really good for me, enough to make me spend more on them. But yea, for 95% of people. Make sense to go and get 8 Gearwrench compared to 1 Matco ratchet.

    @mlieser1230 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    They definitely are a nice looking ratchet. The handle looks like it provides a good grip. When I look at the Matco ratchets they look just like a Gearwrench. The head shape, switching lever and flex joint locking mechanism look the same as a Gearwrench. Some techs claim that the Gearwrench rebuild kits fit the Matco. I think these ratchets would be great in tight quarters where less torque is involved. The Snap-on Dual 80 would be a better fit for higher torque situations.

      @@stangculturethey fixed the issues with the second round of ratchets. The first round did have issues. The two main corrections were a more substantial spring washer so you can tighten the flex head to hold its position and they added more superlube during assembly which fixed the smoothness / backdrag issue. It is slightly less smooth than the Dual 80 but that’s because it has 20 more positions while being stronger. They have not fixed that lever issue, but, to be honest, I’ve never once had an issue with that.

      @@stangculture at Snap on pricing, that's not acceptable. I have over a dozen gearwrench 90T ratchets in locking flex, fixed and compact variants. The QC isn't perfect, but even the one with a lot of axial play in the anvil still functions without issue They were on sale for ~USD70 per 3 piece locking flex head set and ~USD60 for fixed which is why I bought doubles for spares. Two suggestions: -Try an Olsa flex head- lower backdrag than Snap-on, better clearance, equally strong, better overall performance. -Ease off the clickbait titles and endless exclamation points. You made it sound like the ratchet snapped in two and the SO dealer said F-U and then ran your dog over.

      @@stangculturetry Koken’s nut-grip sockets too. They have a ball detent to hold your bolt. With a tiny little steel ball. You might think that one day that retainer spring is going to get ripped right out of there. But no matter! They have tiny little repair kits for each and every socket! I have them in both 1/4” & 3/8” drive. No sign of them ever going to need repair. I have Koken Z ratchets too. They’re just obviously better than anything else. The first time you pick one up you can feel it.

      @davehaggerty3405 So I was gonna buy the Koken 3726Z-280 ratchet. You're right. it's butter smooth and nothing like it. But for me personally, the grip is small, and I heard Koken kinda iffy with their warranty. But yes, I heard about the sockets. I'm looking into it.

    • @davehaggerty3405
      @davehaggerty3405 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stangculture yup, right on both counts. When Koken entered the US market they had no warranty. They said if you break a Koken ratchet it’s abuse. (They ain’t wrong). Distributers convinced Koken to add a warranty. But it ain’t an “all perils” warranty like SnapOn, Tekton etc. which is fine by me. I don’t want to pay for a warranty for someone else to abuse their tools. The handle is a little small. But comfortable. And durable. Koken doesn’t have long handled ratchets. Even their long ratchets are just a little longer than a normal ratchet. And they’re kind of hefty for a little ratchet. If you had one in your hand all day, everyday that would matter to you. But they’re good for me. A strong little ratchet for tight spaces. It never skips and almost no back drag. Pretty nice when I can only get one hand in there. If I have the room I’m in there with some sort of power tool! My 3/8 Astro Nano impact is my favorite. Thinking of getting a Milwaukee 12V ratchet. Small & light. I have a lot of Milwaukee stuff.
