She Was Dancing, by Reginald Unterseher for SSAA choir and percussion. This piece was inspired by a dream image. In the dream, a terrestrial Goddess figure rose into the sky and merged with deep space photos from the Hubble telescope, then began moving and dancing. All tracks were recorded live. Molly Holleran is the soprano, all other parts recorded by the composer.

Score and audio. A setting of verses 1, 6, 7, 9, and 10 of "The Heresfordshire Carol" by Cecil J. Sharp (published 1909) using an English folk tune collected by R. Vaughan Williams and Ella May Leathers (published 1911). Mr. Unterseher selected different verses than the Vaughan Williams setting, focusing on the Christmas story rather than the Adam and Eve story.

    What a heartwarming, uplifting rendition of this song. Is there any chance your Pianist has full notation of what he played so beautifully? I would love to learn it for a concert next week. My amateur version will just not do!

    I've been running an experiment for a month where, not having sung at all since the Before Times, I'm just doing these exercises thrice daily. No songs except to check weekly changes. By mid-month, the change was remarkable enough that I added a couple of others that I found on the inter-tubes. Amazing how quickly they work.

      Yes, that was an issue! Different fabrics really make different sounds. I used a lightweight cheap polyester on one side, it makes the higher pitched, whining sound. The other side was a rougher, heavier upholstery fabric, made a lower pitched, roaring sound. I did a fair amount of experimenting in the fabric store, pretty sure they were wondering what the heck was going on.

    As someone who has also been to Nagasaki, Hiroshima, Los Alamos, and the Oak Ridge Reactor, this song beautifully balances the enormous achievement of scientific endeavor in all its awesomeness and the multinational wish of never having to use this power against humanity again.
