On Wednesday the 31st January 2025, the Danish Indian Organisation (DIF) hosted a captivating book discussion on Nancy’s Kairali Massage Parlour, by Archana Painuly. The event brought together literary enthusiasts from diverse nationalities for a rich and insightful exploration of the book’s themes, storytelling, and cultural depth.
The event was attended by India’s Ambassador Manish Prabhat, Counselor Ashish Arya, DIF President Lizzie Schreiber Singh, and other distinguished guests, with Sapna Anand as the skilled moderator.
Ambassador Prabhat delivered an insightful speech on the significance of diasporic literature, its historical context, and global impact, highlighting the importance of strengthening cultural and political ties between India and Denmark.
Speakers George Thomas, Carmen Querol, and Rebecca Nematovu shared their perspectives on the book’s themes of migration and cultural identity, enriching the discussion.
The book, first published in Hindi by Bharatiya Jnanpith in 2020, has been translated into English, Kannada, and Marathi. S. N. Srinath translated the Kannada version, and Prof. Pratibha Mudaliar translated the Marathi version.
The event saw enthusiastic participation, thought-provoking discussions, and engaging questions from the audience. It concluded with an Indian classical dance performance and light refreshments, leaving everyone with a memorable cultural experience.
