I am happy you came across my channel, I hope you enjoy my videos and learn something on the way.
Today we life in a world where something that was build maybe a year ago is already thrown away, where something that was bought as an expensive status symbol 5 years ago is now on the scrapyard. With this channel I want to share with you the beauty of bringing old but well build tools and machines back to their former glory and give them a new purpose.
Here you can also find videos about woodworking and woodturning. Working with wood, a natural recource, and making new things out of it is a passion of mine. As both my father and my grandfather have been carpenters, naturally I spend a lot of time in the workshop. Currently I am building my own workshop and I am filling it with old and beautiful machines.
But since not everyone has a garage or workshop where you can restore or repair old things, I decided to record what I do. And of course, to share it with you.

I really wouldn’t use grease in the chuck, it just acts like a magnet for dirt and chips, and there are no fast moving parts that require grease…I’ve only ever used a light oil like 3 in 1 to prevent rust and help smooth running
I haven't thought about that but you are right. I will make sure to use oil in the future
Beautiful piece of work 👍👍
Thank xou for the support
That is a really nice Bowl you made

Excellent job man 🏆👍 And it's a very beautiful obscure antique wrench 👨🏼🔧
Thank you, yes thats quite a unique tool, im glad I bought it
Beautiful job! Thank you 🙏🏼
Very Nice
Sou do Brasil e coleciono ferramentas antigas. Parabéns pelo seu trabalho
Mount it back on the lathe. Get a sheet of fine sandpaper. Hold paper while spinning until metal is shining like new.
Normally that is a good way to clean a tool, but here I chose not to do it because I wanted to keep the original patina. But good suggestion, thank you
not as good as My Mechanics
No, it will be a lot of work until I reach that level but Im only starting out right now
What a shame for that old leather handle. The new wooden handle completely cracked anyway, so you could return to this project and make a new handle with the leather washers.
I preferred the original handle. I think it was ore beautiful with character❤.
das hast du mal gut vermasselt das Schraubgewinde und der Holzgriff beide kaput 😂
😂 "Kaputt"
Very satisfying restoration 😉😉
Beautiful work indeed! Thank you 🙏🏼
voce poderia indicar quais os produtos foram utilizados na limpeza e restauração da peça

This was amazing to watch 👏👏
Thank you for the support
Very cool. I could watch an hour of that burning, it's hypnotic.
Пошто оригинальную ручку изничтожили?
Beautiful work - until in the end you put on a poorly made wooden handle and IMHO spoiled it all. It's a hammer used for roofing with slate. As soon as the sun shines, it gets incredibly hot there, so they intentionally put on a stacked leather handle. It provides a good grip even with sweaty hands. You should remove the wooden handle and make a new stacked leather one in its original shape, that would be nice and a restauration to be proud of.
First of all thank you for the feedback, it really helpes me out. The reason why I removed the leather handle and put a wooden one on are that the old handle lost its heat and sweat absorbant abilitys over the years and I have not worked with leather yet so I cant make a new leather handle. But I admit that this handle is not my proudest work and I will replace it in the future once I repaired my lathe.
@@woodhammerproductions1170 - nothing special about a leather handle, take a piece of thick and sturdy, untreated leather, cut it to pieces, make a hole for the tang (tight fit), and start stacking them. To make it look nicer, dye some and create a pattern or take coloured plastic chips (copy the original pattern). Watch "DiResta Tool Restoration: 3 Old Rusty Hammers" (jimmydiresta). For the original functionality don't treat the leather, for decorative purpose you may treat it with whatever balsam, oil or wax you want. As no glue is used, you can replace the handle as often as needed. Give it a try!
Beautiful work indeed Thank you 🙏🏼
Thank you for the Support, it really helpes me!
good job
Thank you, I appreciate it
Pity the wood handle cracked while putting in on what did you do to fix it?
Yea, that was really unfortunate. I hollowed the handle out a bit with a round chisel and glued them together. I have used it a few times nowand it holds together well
Now you're ready to trim your horses hooves.
I just need to restore some horseshoes first....and get a horse ^^
Pity that you removed the easily restorable Lester disk handle.
you have a point there but the handle was unconftable in the hand and thats why I wanted to make a new one
С плашкой, это фиаско братан))
и с ручкой тоже!
Go to war coward ...😂😂😂
I worked with a guy who had one of these hammers. It is a slater's hammer. The point is for making holes in the slate for nailing and the 'sharp' edge is for trimming the slate. Lovely tool, I was quite envious !
Yea, if someone knows how to use this tool, its really satisfying to watch him make those slates. I could not agree more
Glad you identified this hammer. I was curious but after reading your comment the way it is made makes perfect sense now. Thanks for your insight. Very nice restoration!!
Not even close.
what do you mean by that?
@@woodhammerproductions1170 I mean exactly what I said. You created a tree torch. There are many kinds. But it is not remotely a "Swedish" torch. Yours is a bushcrafted "survival torch" maybe. There are probably a dozen different styles of tree torches but all owe their inspiration to the Swedish Torch invented in the early 17th century. And MOST claim to be the Swedish Torch . . . but they're not. The Swedish torch was invented by soldiers, specifically, Finns of Sweden, while fighting alongside the French in the 30 Years War. The Swedish Army were the cutting edge soldiers of their era thanks to Gustavus Adolphus, and they were the originators of MANY new practices, tricks, and clever inventions during that war under his leadership. If you are interested in history then you will likely find a good book on Gustavus Adolphus informative and enjoyable.
@@zippitydoodah5693 who cares, it's a swedish torch
@@kajtus5510 Many Swedes care. And no, it is definitively not. It is unfortunate that truth triggers you so easily.
Meh. You ain't wrong. But it gets the job done in a pinch yeah?

Really nice knife, do you know which wood was used for the handles?
Thank you, that would be beech wood
Really nice, thank you for the hard work you put in these videos
Thank you for the support Umid, I really appreciate it
Nice restoration. Keep up the great work 👍👍
Thanks a lot, I am happy you liked it
Very good restoration. No nonsense, no theatrics. Just honest work and skill. Keep it up.
Thank you, I'm happy you enjoyed the Video
It`s worth it to preserve such a good old quality - for another 50 or 60 years to work precisely ("knippely"). Wonderful restoration!
Thats right, this was once a quality tool that was just neglected for many years but now it is useable again and will last for a long time. It is worth caring for these old tools
@@woodhammerproductions1170 I wish you much luck and success for your restoration channel.
I really appreciate the support, thank you.
Beautiful work! I wish I could get my hands on some elm where I live! Not trying to be the "ackshually" guy but other commenters are right about using the roughing gouge for hollowing the interior being dangerous. You really do need a bowl gouge made of bar stock with a v-shaped groove. The geometry of how the cutting edge meets the wood is just critical for not only cutting, but - more importantly - not catching! Maybe you already know but just have a technique where it works in certain circumstances for you, idk. But you can get a pretty good quality 1/2 inch or 5/8 for like 50-60 bucks and it'll blow your mind how much easier and more versatile a dedicated gouge is! I recommend a 5/8" with a fingernail/irish grind because it can be a great tool for the exterior of the bowl (or a spindle) as well once your bowl blank is roughed into concentricity. Don't mean to judge or offend, just looking out for a fellow woodturner.
Thank you, I am really greatfull for having access to a lot of types of wood and elm is certainly one of my favorites. And also thank you for the tipp, I own a bowl gauge but I wasnt aware of how Important it is, I will certainly use it in my future Videos
@@woodhammerproductions1170 Awesome! I hope it makes the hollowing process easier and faster for you. I'll subscribe and look out for new videos! 👍🏼👍🏼 Happy turning!
