Lawn Spots
Some kind of invasive weed... Might be bermudagrass. And some lawn brown spots. If anyone has any ideas what's causing the spots, let me know.

No it isn't dangerous. Just go google the BBB method or Trouble Free Pool.

Go to your local pool/spa supply shop and get enough of the correct chemicals to treat and stabilize your pool water. And for Gods sake, speak up in future videos. We can’t a damn thing you’re saying.

Never use Bleach in a pool. Bleach has chemicals in it other than Chlorine that will eat your liner and filter parts. The amount of actual Chlorine in bleach is only about 5-6%. Pool chlorine has up to 68%. DON'T BLEACH YOUR POOL.

For starters, I realize this video is three years old and am hoping that those of you seeking answers haven't either destroyed your pools or given up and removed them. If you have any green in your pool, you have an algae bloom and the best way to clear it up is with chlorine (sodium hypochlorite). If you can find a pool supply place that sells it in at least 12.5% strength, that's better because you will not need as much of it. For those with algae, lower your pH first, I believe to about 7 - 7.1. When low pH, the free chlorine works better and clears the pool quicker. You don't have to lower it, but if you can, do. You need to know the total water volume of your pool and the cyanuric acid (CYA) level. The purpose of the CYA is to protect the free chlorine from being used up too quickly in the hot sun. So it will determine how much chlorine you need to "shock" the algae and kill it, as well as how much free chlorine you will need to maintain a healthy pool once the algae is dead. Personally, I keep my CYA at about 20-25, which means I only need to keep my free chlorine at 12% of 25, which is 3 ppm. The higher your CYA, the more chlorine you will have to use in order to maintain the health of your pool. General rule: Free chlorine should be kept at 12% of your CYA. Get to know your water. Once you know it, all this will be easy peasy! This brings us to alkalinity. I keep mine at about 50-60 ppm. Alkalinity helps to stabilize the pH - keeps the pH from wildly shifting up and down. Normal pH level is about 7.5 - 7.8. The pH of your eyes is 7.5. So if you are swimming in a properly maintained pool and open your eyes underwater in a pool with a pH of 7.5, your eyes should not burn at all. A pH below 7 ppm is acidic - above 7 ppm is alkaline. You want to maintain a proper pH of 7.5 - 7.8 to protect your pool equipment. So, find the total gallons of your pool. Set your CYA at a level of 30-50 You will need to buy stabilizer (CYA) from a pool store. (My water does well at 20-30). Set your free chlorine at 12% of your CYA. This will insure no more algae - maintain it! Set your alkalinity to 50-60 ppm by using baking soda. 1.5 lbs per 10K gallons of water raises it to 10 ppm. You want 50-60 ppm. Set your pH to 7.5 - 7.8 ppm This is all based on the BBB method from Trouble-free Pool (dot) com. I alter my numbers a little from what they recommend because I know my water. Pool maintenance is really VERY simple. Look up the site - read the info in the Pool School and start enjoying your pool, knowing it is actually safe and sanitary. We have had the same buried Doughboy (with a 7' deep end) for 13 years now, and still using the same pump and filter. We run it on low 24/7/365 and use Zeolite in our sand filter. FYI: You will NEVER have a chlorine smell in your pool unless you are not maintaining proper balance of BBB.

Hello, I got small pool with small light blue mosaic inside. I can get clear water in the pool but the water inside the filter gets light blue colour same as the mosaic after 8 hour filtering. PH and Clorum normal and using algicide. Can you tell me the cause. Can it be the mosaic tearing apart in dust particles? Or is there any kind of algae that has light blue colour? Thanks Jorge Dias

Its hard for a Chemist to watch these pool videos - so much false and costly information out here. But This guy (MIKEDOESTHINGS) actually knows what the heck he is doing! He does not explain why adding baking soda and bleach works so well but he does show it! And for those of you who took chemistry to actually learn it rather than to fulfill a requirement for med school I'll impart a secret to pool chemistry. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate and sodium bicarbonate is amphoteric. This substance is powerful because is is bisexual in nature. It can behave as an acid or a base depending on what it encounters to react with. Sodium hypochlorite (bleach) is a strong base. Take a pH test of it with your pH test kit. Off the scale high pH. Now the juicy info. Bleach must form hypochlorous acid before it will disinfect. Dumping a ton of bleach into the pool won't clean the pool. It needs to get from high pH to a pH of ~7. How do you drop the pH? Use sodium bicarbonate - NaHCO3. Sodium bicarbonate will act as an acid when it meets up with a hypochlorite molecule [ NaOCl + NaHCO3 ---> HOCl (real cleaner) + Na2CO3 ] and the hypochlorous acid is what kills everything. WIth out the H atom from bicarbonate the bleach just sits there.
