Welcome to the BCR Dawson Sub!
I invite you to follow along as I build an N Scale model railway layout depicting the British Columbia Railway's Dawson Creek Subdivision as it appeared in 1977. This branch line is located in the Peace River region of northeastern British Columbia.
Over time I hope to share progress videos on layout construction, model projects, product reviews, and tutorials on various topics relating to Canadian railway prototype modelling, with a focus on the British Columbia Railway and N Scale.

Excellent freightcar learning video, for both modeling and just being informed. Thanks again.
Cool video and channel just subscribed
Awesome
do you ever see Singh Biln?
I forgot to mention in the video that Briggs Models has suspended direct sales of their products, but they will be available again soon from an alternate supplier. I will provide details in a future video as soon as it has been announced.
outstanding video, love what you're doing :)
Thank you; much appreciated.
Very informative, so Thank You Tim for a well done video. I'm thinking I will now need to watch for some stock car kits in the future.
Bad medecine
Hi Tim, what I miss is the BC Rail technical and historical society.
That looks awesome man. Might I recommend you consider something like a big sheet of styrene for the backdrop behind the bridge… that would cover your access holes, would be removable for access or reuse in some future incarnation of the layout. Very nice work man, thanks for sharing!
Thank you; I am hoping that when the backdrop is fully painted those panels will be less obtrusive; we'll see. It was a tradeoff for extending the Fort St. John Subdivision through the wall, which has greatly enhanced operations.
@@bcrdawsonsub7772 yes sir, it’s always some compromise… I say that being a layout builder is like one of those books from my childhood, the chose your own adventure books… building a layout is a choose your own compromise adventure. All the best!
Beautiful
Your bridge is very impressive. It looks great with a train rolling across it.
Very nice work. I particularly like the refuges and the bridge track detail. Well executed. A minor item on the bridge supports, the bridge shoes appear to be mounted 90 degrees from normal. The bridge shoes have a pin which sits perpendicular to the rails. The pair of pinned supports function as a point attachment for that end of the bridge span. The pins allow a very tiny amount of rotation of the span due to thermal expansion. There is normally a slide shoe for the support on the other end of each bridge span. The slide shoe allows for a small amount of longitudinal expansion/contraction due to thermal effects. The span looks great and you must be very proud of it! Very impressive scene taking full advantage of the benefits of N scale!! Cheers, Coxy
I will have to look into that; thank you.
Nice to see the Dawson Sub up and running again! I noticed a couple of the former Erie Lackawanna Centuries in the back round. Nice touch!
Good update, glad to see the layout working well.
great episode, Tim, do you want some n scale bc rail decals, they were made by rail graphics, back when we were in the bc rail t&S with Singh BIln..
Hi I am okay for decals at present; thank you.
Excellent update! Thanks for the tour.
Looks like a very interesting operational procedure. Just like the prototype. I bet your operations are very intense and fun!
They are!
Such a great feeling to have the layout up and running again. Eager to see some operations videos to learn more about the prototype.
Yes I will be creating some videos dedicated to each of the train operations. Stay tuned!
Great video as always..
Excellent presentation
Simply outstanding!
Wonderful to see the layout back together again, truly a work of art.
Thank you for sharing you wonderful layout.
Great job
Your attention to detail second to none. Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you for taking us along.
My pleasure 😊
Impressive as always! Thanks for the update.
Very unique layout. Your wiring is meticulous. Love the panels in the wall idea. I’m a new subscriber, why are those access panels needed? Where does that track go? Why is it hidden? So many questions. -Mark
Thank you; the track goes behind the benchwork, through the wall and into the next room.
It is difficult to follow all the wiring given the short number of switches. It looks that there are too many wires for the job.
Great progress 😊
Your layout wiring is probably the neatest best labeled layout wiring I've ever seen, kudos to you sir.
Thank you
Very good, clear presentation! Your cable management is very good.
Thank you very much!
I am in the process of fitting power to my points and have been thinking about servos because of the price, Thank you for this very concise video on your setup. You have made up my mind to go ahead with servos.
Glad it was helpful!
Code 55 good Atlas, meh
Best option at the time; would love to have a better option especially for the turnouts.
Very cool 😊, thanks for sharing
+1 for 2x4 supports for N scale bridge!!! ;-) Layout's coming along nicely. Thanks for the update.
Great to see this progressing so quickly now Tim, and good to have some fine BCR modelling on TH-cam too :-)
A similar video for filming model railroads would be welcomed. Thanks for this excellent offering.
Noted!
Why do you put feeder wires 1ft apart? It’s 12ft recommended not 12 inches
I provide two pairs of feeder wires for each section of track regardless of the length or distance. I do not solder the rail joiners so am not relying on them for conductivity, although they typically do a fine job of that. Probably over-redundant, but have never had any issues with conductivity.
Very nice explanation...and I love the cable management!
TIm, almost 21 years ago we had lunch with Singh Biln, in squamish. we were all members of the bc rail T&HS, in NMRA. I acutally had decals made by rail graphics for bc rail.
Prototype based layouts are always of special interest to me as they are almost always very well done. No exception here. I’ve subbed to your channel and look forward to further progress.
Nice work
Most of the BC Rail rolling stock is owned by CN
thanks 4 the information, its great to know
Cool
Very nice video you done like and share thanks DD.
Atlas O has not offered a BRITISH COLUMBIA RAILWAY bulkhead flat car in the extended font like at the start of the video
very nice! I hope to build a BC Rail layout next winter
Great to see this coming back together even better in the new flat Tim - it must be very satisfying to see your original decision to build a sectional layout really paying off now, especially as you have had to scrap so little as a result of the move and have been able to make some big improvements. Wishing you good progress for March!
Thank you; yes some of the original design features paid off well during the move. Will be the topic of a clinic for RMMBC this spring.
