I think you may have mis-read the situation based on strong personal priors in this area. There’s a bit more nuance to the situation: A) Where did Rudeus use his emotions as a justification for what happened? In the moment, it’s not like he was intentionally wielding them as a weapon to get some action or something. He was in shock, vulnerable, and didn’t totally understand what was happening until it was already done. That’s not really a “decision” to cheat. It’s also not “not” a decision to cheat, either. As with everything else in this story, it’s a lot more grey and hard to pin down. If you mean after the fact…Well, yeah. If you do something for an emotional reason, you explain that it happened due to emotions you had. That’s not really a justification, that’s an explanation. I got the impression that he expressed his view earnestly. B) Roxy did take advantage of the situation… But like, if a philanthropist goes to donate money to a charity, I’m not really going to get mad if they enjoy people praising them for it. My read on the situation is that Roxy was lost, had no idea what to do, cared about Rudy, was in an emotional state, and just did the most natural thing that felt right to comfort him. Did she enjoy it on the way? Yeah. Do I think she did it just because she wanted to get her rocks off? Absolutely not. Was it the best way of handling the situation? No, but I think it was actually a pretty realistic outcome, and when it gets into the heat of the moment like this things aren’t always as black and white as it can feel when you’re consuming a piece of content as media as opposed to being in the situation personally. C) Did Sylphie “Just Take it”? My takeaway is that she loved Rudy, but also had to have at least some understanding of what role Roxy played for him growing up. There’s absolutely no way she didn’t know at all. I think she understood that Rudy loved her, but also loved Roxy, and that due to extenuating circumstances it wasn’t as simple as just tearing people apart due to jealousy. She wanted everyone to be happy, and chose to be understanding, empathetic, and supportive of two people she cared about with varying levels of immediacy. Indeed, it’s also possible to be happy *for* somebody, on top of just being happy yourself. D) I don’t think this is a case of the author horndogging over polygamy, exactly. I… Kind of get the impression the author wanted to tell nuanced scenes, with layers of motivations, with multiple possible interpretations, and love just happened to be an area where storytelling can be made immensely more complicated by involving more than two parties. I took Paul’s excursions as more of a parallel to Rudeus than the author extolling the virtues of polygamy, and I got the impression that Rudeus’ case was more of a consequence of very specific elements of the situation, than an end goal the author set out to achieve. There were a couple of other things, like some of the other Greyrat branches and so on, but I read that more as a fairly historically accurate backdrop. I don’t know, overall, your comment reads like you have a personal issue with the subject matter that you’re projecting onto the content in a way that doesn’t really reflect a naive experience with it, or the author’s intended tone. There’s nothing wrong with that as such, and I do totally understand that certain personal issues can make it difficult to experience certain media, but that’s not really a fault of the media, that’s just a mismatch in taste and tone, and doesn’t really reflect the quality of the story.

@@novantha1 Except I'm simply just basing it off what I've already previously observed in Rudy. Let's not pretend here, as Rudeus-- hell, Mushoku Tensei in general, are very pragmatic by nature. I don't know what you mean by "naive experience" or "author's intended tone" but the show has been pretty transparent time and time again about how Rudy isn't perfect-- he's had a load of underlying issues even since before being isekai'd, and that Rudy is definitely a pragmatic individual- a horrible one even. He's perfectly capable of lying and manipulation, including to himself, and at one point this becomes a subject of conflict between him and Ruijerd in S1. And maybe more that I just don't remember immediately. So I don't consider it wrong to assume that, while he was mentally vulnerable, there was definitely a window of conscious choice in him that chose to go along with it anyway. 1. We'll never know for sure, unless the manga/lightnovel specifically details what Rudy was thinking at that moment, which I'm thinking it probably does. So let's agree to disagree, because I likely won't be checking it until far later, and you likely won't either. 2. Well it's a good thing I didn't say that. I was careful enough to say "a good part of her did it", not "she did it only to" or any variation thereof. Also your philanthropist analogy is dogwater. Receiving praise for innocent donations is a _completely different_ give-and-take situation from "make this married man expecting kids feel good in exchange for also feeling good". The gap in the weight of that decision is COMPLETELY different. Need I say it thrice? 3. We'll never see eye-to-eye on this. We can chalk it down to a difference in cultural, moral and ethical principles, values, etc. but that's just how it is. Polygamy is wrong, regardless of who it makes happy and who isn't. If you end up falling in love with another besides your bethrothed, it's because you left space for them in your heart that you could have otherwise filled up with love for your wife/husband. Marriage is supposed to carry the weight that you are truly special and irreplaceable for one another. 4. "Hard-on for polygamy" is a, what do you call it? Figure of speech? I don't literally mean the author is horny. Though I wouldn't necessarily doubt that, MT is lewd. Case in point I just hard disagree with polygamy, including with all the points both you and the author made, I don't see them as good justifications for it. It's not a holy or religious thing- I'm not religious. It's largely a difference in how we perceive relationships should ideally be like. Imma ask you rn: would you be fine with it?

Everyone makes mistakes, if anything it's more of Roxy's fault since she actually admitted to taking advantage of the situation. In the end, everybody acknowledged that they were wrong and life moves on.

@@joen4287 Pretty sure they meant web novel but It's just a light novel posted online, no drawings just words. A Visual novel would usually be like one of those click and read games.

​@@joen4287yes it is very different, it's like an rpg without cinematics mostly but the storyline is longer and you can choose to go through different routes, happy/bad ending, maybe routes for different heroines. You can google up visual novel

But like, both his parents essentially died right infront of him, his arm got ripped off, and his nearest family members were a fucking continent away, he was in the depths of despair and had no one he needed at that moment, but then this person who he has idolized since his childhood comforts him and then seduces him. So I think what Rudy did here was understandable, even if I don't agree with it.
