How to build a metal high top on a van - DIY
มุมมอง 14Kปีที่แล้ว
Whether you'd like a walk-in closet for your weekend glamping trips, a dance club on wheels , or getting ready for the apocalypse, a high top van will maximize your space while giving you the ability to stand. I made this high top out of 22 gauge sheet metal and 16 gauge 1" x 1.5" steel tubing in December 2020. It was my first welding job and a damn good one if you ask me, "Welders" feel free t...
Awesome. Looks better than the big wood ones I've seen.
Cost of materials + time taken? Ready made fibre glass one like this costs about €3000 where I live.
You saved a massive amount of money on that compared to buying a fiberglass high top roof. I think it's great!
Great work 👏
What degree did you cut the support ribs? Beautiful fab work btw.
Nice feckin' job, mate.
What do you think, it is possible to use spare van and cut off 3feet from him to make extension
Looks fantastic
Do you think someone could build a hightop with wood❔
You can totally build a van top out of wood. I would construct it similar to old-school wooden planes. Thin ribs and lots of glue to keep the weight down.
good shit!
I have that same model van and most tops look like a pimple. You some how made it look like it belonged and you smoked the build. Fantastic job
Thanks so much!
Amazing , awesome music
Me gusto mucho tu trabajo felicidades quisiera ver qué más se le hizo a la camioneta
What is Best or your Favorite smart-ass comment you've had abt Van so far?
Wowzer I'm just really impressed..please show us more info on the continuing build!
I'll be adding more videos next month 🌿
looks good looking forward to the next video
Very impressive, outstanding job, others pale in comparison. Driving around with the top cut out, haha that's fantastic, I love it. Cheers from the East Coast
Thank you so much!
How much would you charge to do this again?
Hi, I would charge $3000 for labor + materials. At the time, materials cost around $500. Somewhere between $3500 - $4000 total
@@palemoonart what state and city are you located in?
Los Angeles, California

i really hope you love what your doing.....because my friend you are an ARTIST!!! and your still young GREAT JOB!!
Yes, I love to create ✨️✨️✨️ Thanks so much!
Good looking shop, hey do you think this van will be kinda top-heavy?
Good question! The existing roof weighed about 200 pounds. This roof weighs around 425 pounds. I believe the little bit of extra weight still makes it safe, and the tapered sides may help shift the weight to the center of the van.
@@palemoonart i would be curious on how it handles, thanks
I haven't noticed much change in the handling except when driving through desert high winds! I have been weaving through Los Angeles traffic for the last 2 years with no problems at all. I'd say the biggest issue is not being able to drive into parking garages. Lol
