Nice gun! Thanks for watching and good luck this year.
Nice video, enjoyed watching!
Thanks man! Going mountain ruff grouse hunting today. First time this year.
POINTED BIRDS ONLY?!?! I can DIG IT!!! PS: using pointing dogs as flushers and/or shooting un pointed birds is LAME
True that
Don’t shoot birds when dog breaks the flush
Thats the goal. Gunner is steady to wing 95% of the time but what you don't see in this clip is that Gunner worked this bird for about a 150 yards and when he went on point I was about 100 yards away. Then the bird flys right over him so I think it was just to much. When you wear a GoPro the camera usally catches more stuff that you dont catch while live. Go watch some videos on my TH-cam channel Upland Wild. You see Gunner is sready most of the time.
Great video! I'll be carrying a 20 game citori or a 1100 lt 20 upland special. North Dakota in 30 days!!!!
Thanks Im a big fan of the 1100.
Sandhill crane with my grandpappys 8 gauge sxs and 6 gauge single shot and believe it or not my pappy actually has a 2-bore SxS stopping rifle that he won a card game in Africa back in 72 I have all my pappys guns he collected throughout his years on his Earth mostly big dangerous game guns from 375 h&h mag to 700ne to 4-bore up to a 2-bore he passed away at 102 years old But in my cell perfection I prefer to hunt with my Ithaca mag 10 10 gauge because that's the first gun I actually got when I was no more than 9 years old I love that gun more than anything and since I came back home to my home state of Florida it's still in my room underneath my bed in the case that came with the day I got it and I love hunting Crows with it But my son really loves my Stevens 24 gauge sxs and Winchester 20 gauge sxs 3inchand my wife she loves duck hunting more than and she love the Savage/stevens model 320 in 12gauge and for some odd reason she's always shot 3-inch Magnums for some notorious reason that gun kicks as as hard as my Ithaca mag 10 10 gauge and it says a lot because cuz I throw 3 1/2 inch Magnum goose load 4/BBBB through it out of a vary tight full choke
Dang! You win.LOL I hunted with a 10ga that is a friends. Ive never hunted Sandhills but thats cool. Good luck this year
@@uplandwild4136 thx man I plan on using the 6 gauge and my 10ga with mag extension
Got a Beretta 20 and 28 gauge with one receiver . Nice gun 30 inch barrels .20 for Grouse smaller birds28 gauge woodcock and Huns . Going to buy next week Beretta A400 Xtreme Auto in 20 gauge .Camo . Lot of good reports on that gun .
Great guns! Browning just fit me a little better off the rack.
Good luck getting to 1K. It took me a while, but they slowly click up. I have been tracking you for a while. I dropped a video this week about last year in MT. I guess we are all getting the fever. As far as favorites: MT is my favorite because you don't know what bird will flush. Thise huns sure are special. I guess my favorite gun is teh Benelli Legacy. I have the 12 & 20 now and loading some 20 gauge this week to get it going. Good luck this season.
Thanks, When you heading to Montana? I'll be there for a couple of weeks. We should meet up.
@@uplandwild4136 We'll be out there weekend of 10/10. LMK
I wish I could tell you a favorite but last season was the first for Bandit and I together. Firstly, I have fallen in love with having a Brittany. We went to Michigan for grouse and woodcock when he was about 11 months old and he got contact with one each with me missing the grouse and no shot on the woodcock. After that we came home and pursued the pheasant that our state puts out. We managed to bag two of those with an old Ithaca Model 37 12 gauge. I had never hunted with that particular gun before but it turned out to be a real pheasant buster. We are VERY excited for the upcoming hunting season. Your dogs look great and I enjoy watching you guys hunt together.
Thanks, I also love Grouse and Woodcock hunting. Gunner has a couple of puppies in MI and Parkers littermates. Gunner is an excellent pheasant dog and of course wild pheasant can be tough on pointing dogs. I can still remember Gunners pheasant light coming on and him working running birds. I have many pheasant points on video of him running around a running bird and pinning it between himself and me. This will be Parkers second season so I hope I can get him on some wild pheasant and that he develops into a quality pheasant dog.
Favorite species Ruffed Grouse Favorite shotgun Benelli 828U 20 ga
I love Ruffed Grouse and Woodcock. Benelli makes some great guns even though I don't own one.
@@uplandwild4136 I was never really a Benelli guy. I liked that the 828U is adjustable for length of pull and cast. Plus, it's lighter than my Beretta 687
Dog looks great
Parker and Gunner are awesome!
What kind of scatterguns you use here?
I like the Point Of View camera work. Is that just a ProGo attached to your hat? Below are a few of my hunting adventures. Hope you enjoy them. th-cam.com/video/aALwvTdJpoY/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Yes, GoPro 11 with the headband. Thanks and good luck this year
Have a stoeger up lander 20 gauge I’ve used for yrs. I’m going to try a stoeger 3020 uplander this on some my longer hikes it’s 2lbs lighter. I still love my double but it’s pretty heavy for a 20 gauge
Ive never hunted with a Stoeger but have only handled them in stores. The model I handled seemed a little heavy but I know people like them. Good luck this year
How are your dog’s bred ? I like the gunner and Parker dog both.
Gunner is a Shambos Dark Shadow dog. I bred Gunner to a friends bitch that is a Nolans Last Bullet.Gunner is a NSTRA AM champ with like 6 wins and some seconds. I did this in a couple months when he was like 2.5 years old. I then won one open and a third when his was three and then really stop trialing because I was wild bird hunting and traveling so much. Parker just turned 2 and this year will be his second season. Gunner will be nine in February. Thanks
@@uplandwild4136so you run field trials with gunner?
Before season last year looked for a budget o/u. Would be my first o/u, decided on a CZ-USA so I have the upland all terrain in 20 gauge. I didn’t know if I’d like the green cerakote but it’s growing on me. I am shooting steel #7’s out of it. IC bottom(first barrel) IM top.
Wow you're shooting steel for upland birds like grouse and woodcock? Doing this because why?
Winchester model 24 16ga Remington model 1100 16ga
Good work man
Appreciate it and Thanks

Oh man I tried to like this so bad but that beeper collar is just so painful to hear! I run bells and a gps, the latter gets used when the dog is on point, otherwise I have the sound of bells tinkling, it beats the hell out of that car alarm sound!
I totally agree with you! It's not my dog. I really only use a Garmin GPS. I rarely use a bell and really only when Im hunting with other people so they have an idea of what's going on. Im guessing you didn't watch the whole video because I comment how the beeper is freaking my pup out a little. GPS is the only way to go and I comment about a lot in my videos. Good luck next year
Time for some pre-season workouts!!
always
Parker VH 12, MF, 30” barrels. Aptly named pooch, I’m jealous.
Fair chase, never shoot a bird out of a tree.
If tramping through the grouse woods isn't fair chase then there is no such thing. What a Karen remark to awesome dog work.
Crap, I hunt the prairies like you, when you find a bunch of pheasants parked in a dead tree do you shoot them out of the tree? @@jeffmertens9790
It's a tough call but you get to choose for yourself. I like and feel for my pups, they really live for the moment and I want them to be rewarded. If Gunner had bumped the bird into the tree I would have not shot.
hell of a pup!!
Thank you, he's coming along
The trees are fir and spruce trees not pine trees. Blue grouse (dusky) feed on fir needles in the late fall, winter. That’s some steep, slick ground you guys were on!
Yes that's true about the trees. But Im stupid and lazy so pine trees they are! lol
@@uplandwild4136I hope didn’t offend you. Trees are my element (45 years as a forester & logging supervisor) so I sort of blurt out things sometime. It does help to know how to identify plants and trees to focus where to find birds. You obviously found a great spot for grouse!
You sounded like you were gonna have a heart attack the whole time
Bad birds are not worth the risk.
It sucks! Never had pigeons not fly. I'll have to get them in shape.
Brittney?
Yes a couple of Britts.
Yes Thanks
What kind of dogs ?
Brittany
Stevens 94, 20gauge improved cyl.
That's cool, thanks for watching.
V grade Parker 2 triggers straight grip 26" imp/mod 0 frame 16ga. , 70s SKB 200 straight grip 20 ga 26 Imp/full. Great hunt. Beautiful country and fantastic pup.
Nice gun the V grade Parker. I own the same gun in a DHE. 16ga 26" barrels and a straight stock all factory. I use it a little in this video and part 2
@uplandwild4136 I see it ! Beautiful lil gun. The SKB is a model 280. I have a 100 150 & 200 model also. Cool vids. Thanks
I thought you guys would have some money. The photography looks like you shot it from a phone. Your really need to upgrade and change lenses while shooting.
Dude Im super rich, Like the Trumps! lol. Its all GoPro footage.
You may have to adjust the quality that the video is played in. It was was uploaded in HD, its adjusted by clicking on the rotary wheel in the menu bar.
We laugh at ourselves when we miss I shot up a box and a half before I killed one this year. So sorry not sorry laughing at you😂. Thanks for sharing your hunt with us.👍
Thanks
Bellissimi posti per cacciare I miei pointer sarebero felici
Sì, è il posto ideale per cani da ferma e cani da ferma
I love watching you guys! What state are you hunting in?
UT Thanks Justin is a great chukar guy. Moved here from Missouri and learned the game.
I wouldn’t laugh ever. I’m 0 for 30 shots this year at chukar.
Oh man that makes my head hurt for ya. Are you hunting over a pointing dog? That does make it easier. When I was young I felt like I was a good shot but today pretty average I think. Ive been shooting skeet twice a week and Im sure its made me a worst wild bird shot! I mean that.
@@uplandwild4136I’m hunting a pointer for her first season this year. She has pointed a few flawlessly, and has been a lot of fun to hunt with. I was a great shot when I was in my late teens and early twenties, and I can still hit ducks. I haven’t hunted birds for about 25 years now except maybe a handful of duck hunts. I was excited to get back in to bird hunting and have been training my dog. I’m not really sure what I’m doing wrong. Jerking the trigger?? Over leading??? I even bought some ounce and 5/8 #6s at 1330 and put in an improved cylinder choke and then missed the last 7 chukar. Honestly I think it may be adrenaline. And I’ve tried to fix it the last time or two out. With ducks I usually have a second to plan the shot. And with chukar the opportunity vanishes swiftly. My dog must think we just go out to give those Chukar a good scare…We really showed them! Sigh. I think some more clay shooting may actually help me. I don’t think I can get any worse.
I can relate. Remember when they are flying down hill they need to be below the barrel or sitting on the bead so to speak. I shoot a lot of 16 gauge 1oz loads. I mainly hunt with old doubles so I shoot mainly light loads. But in this video it was a new A5 with 1 oz and 1280fps. if they are going down hill I would bet your shooting high. Good luck probably lots of snow up there now but almost certain in a few days. Im off to AZ,KS and Texas.@@jayklarquist7912
I've taken to using a pair of trekking poles when chukar hunting. I sling a Browning A5 20 gauge over my back & drop the poles when the dog goes on point. The poles keep me in the game & eases the wear & tear on a bad knee.
That's basically what Im doing. But I'm just using one pole. Its a knee issue with me.
Looks fun, great job on the hunting 🔥‼️💯
Thank you! We did have some fun
I'll be the last guy to laugh. That is hard hunting. I know what that's like. Great video.
Thanks for not laughing. The first birds got up and I saw the fan and I thought dang that's a Hun. We had talked that he had found Huns a little lower not too far from this spot!
Great hunt guys great dog and birds also the land scape too nice
Thank you very much. I even had fun!
Strange. Every year the woods are full of swear words come about the middle of September. What up with that?
True! because few are great shooters! lol. Im an alter boy when not hunting.
Great work Dirk!
Thanks bro
What side by side is that?
Im not sure what clip you are asking about. In this video I used several. My buddy Thayne is using an E. Thompson hammer gun from the 1800 in 10ga with very light loads that he loads (valley quail clip). In the Ruff Grouse footage Im using an FAUSTI DEA 20ga with 26" barrels. In the Sharpie clip it a PARKER DHE 16ga with 30" barrels. In the Valley quail clip Im using LC Smith 410 ga. The over and under is a Browning Citori 16ga. What clip are you wondering about?
@@uplandwild4136 I didn't realize they were different, so that answers most of my questions :) Thank you! How do you like the DEA? I've been looking for a 20 gauge side by side, and that was one of the ones that looks appealing, but there are none near me for me to even feel.
I like it. I picked it up used and got it for a fair price. I bought it because its a modern SXS and it came with 5 chokes. It's a single trigger and 26" barrels so works well with gloves and nice in the Grouse cover. Im comfortable shooting modern ammo through it. @@swatllamatbmc4675
