Join us in inaugurating Beyond the Frame with a new situated recording by musicians Jeremy Greenspan and Colin Fisher, inspired by William Kurelek’s This is the Nemesis, and only available for listening at the AGH.
This experience will be on view at the AGH beginning Thursday, June 27, 2024. Bring your headphones for the optimal experience!
William Kurelek's painting shows us what a nuclear attack can look like, but what might it sound like?
“Colin and I had scheduled a recording session for the spring of 2022 where we planned to collaborate on an album that combined guitar, saxophone, and electronics. The recording session occurred during the early weeks of the Ukraine War. During the session, we were talking about the increased anxiety about nuclear war that many people were feeling at the time. Near the end of the session, an idea formed that the work we were doing could be adapted to fit the theme of a nuclear attack, with each song relating to an aspect of such an attack. I told Colin about the haunting William Kurelek painting at the AGH. During the process of arranging and mixing the audio, the painting served as the major inspiration for finding the tone and flow of the album. This album is divided into five pieces, each representing a linear description of a nuclear holocaust.”

great subject & work
Thanks so much for a marvelous show and also the simple succinct explanations.
Thanks, Ryan.. loved Shiva Baby and it's great to hear we may be able to enjoy it more in another format. The Inheritance was so interesting, such an important film for right now. And thanks, too, for your nudge to watch Rumble and Nicole.. See YOU at the movies..someday....
Awesome
Awesomeness ✍️👍✍️👍✍️
This art is really hard 😭😢😠😤
I liked this, but wish the bumps were smoothed out.
cannot see the writing after supplies
Thanks for the feedback! I'll try to write larger next time!
Thank you
You're welcome!
Also, another interesting fact: "Lumba" ( the criminal that helps bacurau) represents a type of criminal that really existed in that region decades ago: they would walk around in groups and pillage/rob villages but at the same time help the poor in their fight against the rich, so they were seen as some sort of "symbol" of resistance.
The fact of the american actors being kind of cheesy is kind of intetional: this movie was made to "make fun" of americans and the way the see us in latin america, how they depict us in movies and so on. So the director actually turns this on them by putting a bunch of steriotypical (for us) americans with kind of cheesy acting.
Cheers from brazil!
Thanks for sharing
Very interesting conversation. I wish the film had been twice as long! Hilma af Klint's work has touched me to the core, and when I watched the movie my heart started beating faster!
Wonderful talk. It's always heart wrenching to learn about the history of the fur trade and its affect on native life.
:-)
hi
Me encanta, podría ser en español.?
This was really cool. Thank you
great work guys!
i know who is he at the art class ummm my class watch this song video and i love it and my class love it to bye! hope you have a good day!!!! everyone :)
Maybe if collectors and cutators really would care for art, they would also care for the artists! The story of the massive fraud on these paintings happen because collectors decide to spend their money on the work of artists that are dead! Wouldn't it be better to support living artists that need money to create than giving your money to greedy people that didn't do the work. Shame on the musician who got rip off by fraudulent people when he bought a fake Norval. How would he like if instead of people paying for his concerts while he is alive, people would pay others to hear his music when he is dead! If he wants to support the art, he should buy for those $ 20,000 the artwork of artists that need to pay food and rent and that need to impulse their careers instead of risking that somebody sells you a lie! Norval would be very sad to see all the greed around his hard work. Artists need to be supported while they work not when they are gone! The entire art industry suffers because instead of treating painters as musicians they treat artists like shit! You can hear a Cd when the artist die, you can make print when an artist die and you can put in a museum the work of death artists to recognize but support financially the hard working living artists! They deserve it!
So beautiful and amazing idea for acrylic painting.awesome video, greetings for you.
This was great workshop! I like how you showed your warm-up exercises and I found it made an introduction to character drawing less intimidating. Thanks Tyler and AGH, I <3 #Hamont
This is so lovely. We'll pass along your compliments. I'm sure it will make his day, and thank you for being so kind! Glad you enjoyed the workshop!
cafes and bars should keep these on baskets on tables
Another artist that worked in this space and is unheralded is Abdullah N. Dougan. Like Klint, he used the spiral, attributed color, qualities according to a system, and rendered non-visible states extensively.

As an educator I thought it was great and have posted your link to our class work pages online.
Wow this is incredibly insightful. Love this view point.
Thanks so much for saying so, Samantha!
bruh
can't wait to watch...been slightly obsessed with HaK in a way I'm not with other artists
Hi ladies!!
really talented ! :) wow! i'm gonna subscribe to your youtube channel ! Artists should support each other !! Keep up the awesome work!
I wonder if Kim Adams watched anime , considering Ace , a character from an anime called "One piece" was there , at the start. or maybe he just picked it up for the bus.
He talks about how he is always on the lookout for intriguing characters, but he's also a pop-culture aficionado, so it's possible!
Anyone here from mlle Issa’s class
I saw the bus a few months ago and had no idea of what it was portraying. This video provides a great explanation.
So glad it could help enhance the piece or you! :D Thanks for coming to the Gallery and for watching!
How about a virtual course? I’m in.
