    Thank you for this video. You are one of the few people who inspire me to continue fighting on. I am in my senior year. I had a 3.94 GPA before I transferred, and then after I transferred to UNC, I made a series of terrible decisions that landed me with a potentially 3.3 cum GPA and 3.0 science GPA by the time i graduate next semester (could be lower) I have poor service hours. I have poor volunteer clinical hours. I do, however, work in cancer research, and I will work with my lab for at least my first gap year. I also work as an EMT and have 300+ hrs. I want to start studying for the MCAT after this last semester, and then I hope to ace it by the end of the year. I know I should take a post-bacc and thus maybe 3 gap years, but honestly I'm scared and unsure currently.

    I’m so happy you mentioned that you did most of your work and activities after undergrad because I didn’t do anything during my four years. It wasn’t until my junior year that I decided to switch majors and pursue medicine. Since I had to catch up on so many courses, I didn’t participate in any extracurriculars during undergrad to avoid getting overwhelmed. I just graduated, and I’m proud of my 3.5 GPA, but I’m terrified because everyone else seems to have accomplished so much during their time in college. I feel like I missed my chance to be as well-rounded as other applicants, so hearing this really gave me some reassurance

    Hi Amanda! Im currently an emergency dept RN who is taking the MCAT next month. Ive been doing research with a few plastic surgeons and fellows for about a year now and wanted to give you some tips that helped me get involved in research. I am also from an underserved background and during nursing school, I met with a Dr. from a similar background as me (legit just was shadowing in the OR and decided to talk with him after the surgery). He turned out to be a busy guy who was moving away to another city for fellowship, but he introduced me to another Dr. who then introduced me to the surgeon i currently work the most with. He's been mentoring me for almost 4 years now and has given me the opportunity to get some research done as well as introduced me to other chief surgeons of different institutions. The point of me saying all this is that connecting with one can lead to many opportunities and to not be afraid to even stop someone passing by for a quick chat. You never know what it can lead to. Also, I wanted to ask if you could make a video elaborating on all the 3rd party resources available for med students. Especially what you would recommend for students as I haven't been able to get a good understanding of what the best, most cost effective sources are. Thank you !!

    Thank you for sharing - I was wondering to ask for some advice as a non traditional with a low GPA with a strong upward trend. I’ve been worried with an overall cumulative gpa of 3.18 after a post bac, 3.4 science gpa (due to taking a lot of sciences later), and a 507 MCAT with a low CARS. I feel confident with the rest of my application, just worried about my stats, especially the low GPA. I have averaged a 3.8 GPA for the last 70 units - my freshman and sophomore GPA were very poor, but I am not the same student during that time. Should I be worried about not getting into an allopathic medical school or an interview? I know DO medical schools would be a good fit for me from what I have been told. However, I have always aimed to get to allopathic medical schools. Sorry for a lot of the information, and thank the for the content and help.

    Thank you for sharing this. Currently have a 3.18 cumulative GPA with a strong upward trend after a post bac. I contemplate whether I should have gone for a special masters program, but I have averaged a 3.8 for the last 70 units. • @Drift1
      @Drift1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@teweldenegusse1345 I feel like I can’t answer for you - it depends on a lot of things like your trend. What I can say though is that doing a post baccalaureate , and doing WELL on it, can only help you by demonstrating academic rigor and getting you ‘foot in the door’. What I mean by foot in the door is through linkage programs and committee letters. But the idea of doing a post bac baccalaureate should revolve around demonstrating an ability to handle the rigors. If you had a poor trend, then it MIGHT be necessary, but I can’t fully answer it for you. My best advice would be to get a lot of feedback from mentors, doctors, medical students, etc. what I can say is that for myself it was almost necessary if I didn’t want to go to a Caribbean medical school. That is literally what a doctor that I shadowed told me which was hard to take. To put into perspective, I had a 3.00 GPA before the post baccalaureate and I didn’t know until after about special mastered programs. I already had 70 units of a 3.8, so you can imagine how terrible my grades were in the beginning to have my overall GPA at barely a 3.00. At that GPA doing a SMP might have been better. What I think helped me was the strong upward trend. Your GPA isn’t the worse, trust me. All things considered, it’s not considered competitive for allopathic but neither was mines and people have gotten in with a GPA like that. Don’t give up & stay strong! Also, if you don’t have a lot of units and you can get your GPA at a 3.5 or very close to with a post baccalaureate ,I think it might be worth considering - that’s what I would do though. Good luck!
