Hunter 22272-001 1.9A Original Vintage Fan Demo
An all-original Original, featuring the final year of the beastly 1.9A motor design, made in 1977. A great example of an interesting transitional year fan.

This fan was given to me as a parts fan with a seized rotor. Freed the rotor, it ran great, so it was a prime restoration candidate! Made in 1936, electrically-reversible. Quiet and powerful. Used Rustoleum Sand Gloss paint.

All painted, wired assembled! I designed and 3D printed a switch housing for a modern rotary switch that looks like the (broken) original. Pulls 3.2A on high, 2.8A on medium and 2.5A on low. Can't wait to have blades made and get it installed.

I just wrapped up the restoration of this Emerson antique ceiling fan. Glad to be able to preserve the original Levolier switches for speeds and direction. Runs very quietly, with a new GT-6 thrust bearing.

I wonder if anyone here can help me. I disassembled my fan to give it a thorough cleaning, reassembled it, and now the fan runs like a dream but suddenly the light doesn't work! I double-checked all connections, still nothing. I even replaced the light socket (even though there had never been an issue with the old one until now), but still no light. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
Your shaft polishing skills are top notch😂
Nice startup
I wish they made those with the c brackets again
Nice! I love antique fans!
The light on the 36" is utterly beautiful ❤
The Original is my favourite ceiling fan of all and that chrome R52 is just stunning. I'd love a 36" Original but I will never find one herein the UK. My 52" is way too big for my bedroom
Your work area is like mine.
Awesome fan I love how it matches I have the 36inch from the same year but it has cane blade is it only 2 speeds ?
Yep, the 36" models were 2 speeds.
Really great fan they have a nice pitch to them
13 degrees! These are great great fans, and reliably quiet.
Super helpful video, thank you so much. I have a 22272 2.5A Original that I was able to take apart and un-seize using this video. My fan had numerous coats of paint, so I took it further, and pulled out the stator (armature), so I could strip the old paint. And the lead shims promptly fell out... So, curious what purpose they serve, since the stator is screwed into place? Thinking about using silicone or JB Weld, instead of trying to melt lead.
Ended up using JB Weld to replace the lead shims, and rebed the stator in the iron casting. It worked great. Super quiet with a new bearing and fresh oil. If there is no light kit, pull out the black and white wire, not needed. Can always be added back, later, if a light kit is added.
Put some more of those on TH-cam
Also at about seven minutes 13 seconds I recognize that Emerson 77648 fan
I would like to find a couple of those for the bedrooms in my place.
I wish you, or another expert, would put out a vid/book/pdf giving model/serial number de-coding, and a brief history on allll the Originals and their variants/spin-offs, like special editions. They are so hard to keep track of! I have four Originals. I rescue and flip every one I can where I am sure I can make a profit. I live in Texas, and they come up, often. I clean them, fix a few things, and put them on eBay. I have a 1984, 1985, 1986, and 2017. All permanent installs with various lights and speed controls. Two in my garage and one on each covered porch.
This fan should never be a repeat I wish I could bring it back, but I can’t. No one can. It’s forever gone. But for. But not forgotten.
This was made till the late 80s. It was two speed than three after it was discontinued. Those speeds were fast. Mid to late 80s. I wish it was back again.
I wish there were still made today. I wish they would bring them back. to life.
We don't have anything like this here in the UK, it's awful. Looks amazing
Blender Fans are just so damn cute, especially in 36' form
Wow that startup was quick! Lovely fan
An absolute tribute ro genuine engineering and quality which is the exact opposite of everything these days. Love the colour too.
First fan of the night and is in Chestnut brown 70s hunter the original R52
I like this install, and like what Tomaserin said, the rest of this room is very 1970s as well.
I love this install! And the house! I also wonder if the room with the brown Original was added in the 1970s since it has tile ceilings?
I was born in 1977 lol. This is a beautiful fan and of all ceiling fans, the Original remains my favourite. I lived in the US as a kid so experienced them over thrre. I have a modern Chinese built Original which is nowhere near as powerful although I have to say it is still pretty much silent and very heavy. The only reason I have it over a proper US made fan is because I now live in the UK and it is the only Original I have ever seen here. It is actually a 240v model originally destined for the Spanish market! Great video indeed, thanks for sharing
Original fans are not common up here for that matter neither are ceiling fans common up here it’s something that people don’t see every day would be nice but what you see is what you get what you get what you see? You found one I don’t know where to find those well they’re out of my. My view only on TH-cam I see them.

These were before my time I was born in 70 did they come out two in the 70s? When did the earliest one come out? With the C-shaped brackets what year
I’m terrible at balancing so all of my antique fans enjoy a bit of a dance while running. Not at all worried about them falling, and at their age, they’ve earned their hula! Awesome looking fan. My favorite of mine is my 1912 Dayton. Gorgeous old fans.
I have the same fan but mines 22304-001 black/brass. I thought it was supposed to perform better than all my hunters but turns out it’s the slowest. Sounds like even though they have the 1.9A motor they’re slower than the older R52? Because my 2.5, 2.0, 1.1, even 1.0A motors are all faster than my 1.9A 1977. I cleaned it out thoroughly and even changed the bearing but turns out it’s just a slow performer 🥲
It could be because these late 1.9A motors were wound for high and low speed (separate winding sets) rather than a single stator winding with a separate speed coil for high, medium and low like the true antiques.
Have you ever thought of posting videos showing the restoration process? I know a few people who are really interested in watching you disassemble, test, clean, and reconfigure the fan. Love the diagram with the explanation! It's a big hit with the fan lovers in my house.
Amazing!!!
Do you not live in your other house where you had all the fans installed?
So glad you posted again! Love your vids.
I wanna see this fan so badly with a Tiffany pizza shade on it! Oh how gorgeous that would look! Also since it’s from 1977 I can almost hear the disco music playing in my head looking at it. Let alone Stayling Alive by The Bee Gees, which were released the same year this fan was manufactured. And that wooden wall, and everything around it, it couldn’t get more 70s than this! This is the stuff that rocks!
I agree, Tomaserin.
Very beautiful house! Also very fitting fans for it too. Well not all of them, those Broan Europas and that Craftmade Decorative were obviously installed in the 90s. They probably replaced something cooler at one point! Also I hope you will replace them with beautiful Antique fans, and what not. Also that 52” R&M Original looks so beautiful in that sunroom, it’s such a classic setting! And that Original in the kitchen is something that is a beauty of the past! And also since this house was built in the 1930s! That Emerson 86641, from 1936 fits very well in that room, and the whole house! You my man, you live in a time, that people today wouldn’t dare to install vintage fans. If a non fan collector/antique one would’ve bought this house, they would probably remodel it, and make everything grey, and install those brushed nickel modern day Home Decorators Collection fans, that aren’t even anything to call valuable. That Emerson, and those Hunters are very beautiful and Valuable! Because they don’t make these beauty’s anymore! And they are very fitting, let alone the Emerson Roundnose, for that house! And I love it!
I agree!
That thing is freaking awesome! Something about the grill and blade design almost reminds me of some Wagner products and I really like it! What a neat piece!
Didn't barber shops use these fans as well?
I have a Hunter Original ceiling fan that I am trying to get operational. The model number is 22304. I believe from the date code it was made in 1980 in Memphis. Would you have any advice on how to find blade arms for it? The bolt holes on the fan where the blade arms would mount are 2 1/8" apart. I have been able to find many blade arms online that are 2 1/16" apart but none that re 2 1/8". Great video by the way!
VERY interesting to see an Emerson with two oil cups!
Beautiful Restoration on that.
I will look up that super lube ISO 100. I have a few fans that could use a heavier oil. The main one being my whole house fan, which is a big 30 inch direct drive unit. The bearings start to squeal after a couple of years and I want to remedy that.
Very nice! These have such a simplicity about them.
i am deep in a reiteration
Love the crecent in the background
I like the originals search from the RM original
I came into acquisition of one. Is the original finish Japaning? If so what is the easiest was to remove it due to the fact I have rusting in some areas and need to refinish it.
Hello Derek, I just was given an Emerson 45641 number T22273, speed 225. I took it down from a 9’ ceiling, wow! Heavy! The fan has not been used in fifty plus years. The rotor turns, I removed the blades ( great shape-black). The fan has one of those click switches in the nose I was told that it worked. Very dusty, where do I start? I redid a 36’ two speed Hunter so I can get around a fan except never had a three speed fan with a speed coil and a click switch .Thank you for your time! Jean
