Since the Warpath sounds don't receive the praise they so desperately deserve, I'll just give it exactly that with this comment. The Warpath sounds are some of the best dinosaur sounds I've heard. With some, you can almost hear a human voice in them, and it's genuinely chilling. I'm mainly talking about the Carcharodontosaurus, Cryolophosaurus and Giganotosaurus, of course. All sounds are incredible, but I want to talk about these three animals in particular. This trio is not only alphabetically correct, but they have the best sounds in the entire roster in my opinion, and I'll explain why. The Carcharodontosaurus almost sounds like a whale at times, which isn't even that strange considering that the animal it was named after is a shark, and sharks are aquatic, just like whales. An orca's sonar happens to be the last thing most prey items hear before they inevitably get mauled by them, and given that Carcharodontosaurus is a colossal top tier predator just like the orca, giving them a sonar ability in a far-off fantasy setting might just be thematically appropriate. It's as if the sounds were at least partially recorded underwater, and if they were played on land and heard in the air, I can imagine us mere humans being very confused by such a sound. Perhaps Carcharodontosaurus could be a scary night hunter in this fantasy setting and use sonar to track down targets, like a bat. This means it won't even need to see its target to know its exact location, and at night, you would never be safe from the Shark-Toothed Lizard. While the Cryolophosaurus holotype is a frozen dinosaur fossil from Antarctica, and at the time, the now frozen continent wasn't frozen, the sounds of the Cryo are appropriately warped, just like the continent it came from. Once lush and green, now a frozen wasteland, and who knows what it'll look like 170 million years from now. The sounds of the Cryolophosaurus also emit a disturbing and thematically appropriate sense of contrast. It's either quiet, or very loud, with no in-between, just like how we know Antarctica. Very hot, or very cold. A perfect balance, with a perfect contrast. Its groans also sometimes sound like human voices at 2:53, which is even more terrifying, as you'd think it's a struggling or dying fellow human trying to get help, when it's actually a Cryolophosaurus luring a human to its place of ambush. It certainly makes for a brilliant setup for an ambush scene in a fantasy or science fiction setting, if you need a disturbingly deceptive hunter with a two-faced personality. And then there's the Giganotosaurus... Oh dear. I have a lot to say about this one, but where to start? It combines the luring groans of the Cryolophosaurus with an extremely unnatural screeching sound that's impossible to compare to any living animal. Because of the high pitch and frequency of the sound, it may initially be very difficult to tell just how large the Giga actually is based on its sound alone, which makes it sound even more deceptive than the Cryolophosaurus, and makes its reveal much more threatening, when it finally does show its form. Just like the Cryolophosaurus, the fact that you can sometimes hear an almost human voice is absolutely bone chilling. The particular sound I'm talking about is at 3:12, which is the main reason I'm even writing this extremely long segment. It doesn't sound like it's far away, instead it sounds like it's really close by, almost replicating the sound of a human bound with a rope and a gag, trying to scream while having their mouth strapped shut. The Giga could therefore be an excellent ambush hunter, just like Cryolophosaurus, but much larger, and even more deceptive. With larger vocal chords comes an added capability to make many more different sounds. And then there's the fact that the Giganotosaurus has almost no reverb in its screeches, which sound unnatural, and warp constantly as if it's trying to replicate many different human voices, all at the same time. It sounds a lot smaller than it really is, and until it shows itself, you won't know that you're actually being stalked and lured into an ambush by the Giant Southern Lizard. These sound effects are well-made, genuinely chilling and I want to see more people praising these sounds for what they are. They characterize the dinosaurs extremely well, just like how we characterize human protagonists. Most people won't even find or hear these sounds whatsoever. I want to see more sound designers create stuff like what we've seen in Warpath. You know that if the game came out in the past two years, the sounds would've been top quality as well, and Warpath would probably have been turned into a fantasy horror game with dinosaurs under a different name, instead of a fighting game. This is a concept I very much want to see, and these sounds have inspired me to write again. Thank you for uploading this. -Oh, and Cryolophosaurus is my favorite dinosaur, along with Dilophosaurus. I can't really put one above the other, but these two are my favorites for many different reasons. I want to see them being more than just spitters in Primal Carnage or Jurassic Park, and instead be used for truly horrifying roles, like the ones described above. Finding these sounds again made me want to write once more.- Edit: Spelling.
Any man would've passed on reading this comment, but I did, anyway. Such a relatable and thoughtful insight, but you've explained yours better than mine. Might I add that these sounds share the same sound design philosophy as the first JP trilogy, especially since this game came out after The Lost World. They prioritized more on sounding more familiar to us while evoking this regal, but alien feeling of animalistic dread, hence why lots of animal sounds were mixed in with the raptors, the T-Rex, and the Spinosaurus, with the special highlight that the raptor sounds also include human voice acting mixed in. That and oh my God, the Suchomimus, Acrocanthosaurus, and Albertosaurus in this game sound incredible. I could explain more about these 3, but I'll let you form your own thoughts about it ❤

I remember commenting on this video a while ago with a different account but that one was terminated so I'm still gonna say what I feel about the sound design of this game, the way I felt about it months ago. Warpath sound design >>>>>>>> JW Trilogy sound design. I love how every dinosaur in this game sounds unique, terrifying, majestic, and foreboding. One could still argue that the JW trilogy sound design for their new dinosaurs were more "realistic" than how the T-Rex or the Velociraptor sounded in the OG 90s era, but the new ones just sound all the same with nothing but the same static gurgling sound for all dinosaurs. For each dinosaur, they sound very mysterious but familiar too, considering they leaned heavily on real animal sounds and reverb, WHICH I LOVE! These are meant to be larger than life creatures, either in the big screen or learning about them irl, and I love how this game was able to make these animals sound like they pack a mighty punch while maintaining that elegance of them being animalistic in nature and design.
YESSS! I love when JW uses the """realism""" Excuse, but then you look at the absolute abomination that is the Giganotosaurus. They want to have their cake and eat it too... I cannot remember a single sound of the big bads in the JW series, not one. The Indos had a lot of potential, but they should have gone more ham with the sound design. I'm not even gonna mention the story, that would be just depressing.
@@lumiauroras6741 Giganotosaurus roars actually do sound memorable, but not to a "OG trilogy" degree.
