Horses of the Joust: How to train a horse for the joust!
In Horses of the Joust, we step away from the Tiltyard and head back to the stables into the remarkable and rarely seen world of medieval equestrian training; exploring the powerful bond between horse and rider forged in preparation for one of history's most iconic events: the joust.
From the physical endurance needed to carry a knight in armour to the nuanced communication between horse and rider, we uncover the meticulous care, conditioning and trust-building required to prepare a horse for the robustness of the tournament arena.
In this documentary Mark Atkinson, owner of Atkinson's Action Horses and Andy Deane of the Royal Armouries in Leeds reveal the fascinating techniques and training that keep this incredible sport alive today!

    I discover your channel randomly, and I got to say, the quality of your video is impressive, in all its aspects, be the quality, the shots, the audio, the mixing and of course the topic. As a frenchman, I have a massive respect for people keeping Joust alive, safer but still as impressive as centuries ago. It's also very funny, and sort of ironic in a way, that France and England, being the "main" lands of knights thus jousting back in the days, and who were of course also old rivals, often in war with each other, are willingly today working together to keep an old sport alive.

    • @chivalricmedia
      @chivalricmedia 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      First off, merci beaucoup for the very kind words! History & photography/videography are my biggest interests so bringing it all together like this is a work of passion for me. I totally agree, it's hard not to have huge respect for these men & women who are keeping this incredible sport alive. Goin behind the scenes, and learning to ride myself, you fully appreciate the skill levels of these guys....in not only horsemanship but technical skills too. I think England and/or UK v France will always be a premier sporting spectacle, and on this occasion, while our UK knight won the individual trophy, France won the overall team competition!

      @@newnamesameperson397 I would assume safety for both horse and rider play a huge part in the reasoning behind these type of lance's, also budget too will play a part. Don't forget the saddles that are used too, that are designed to keep the rider 'in' the saddle.

      They don't have unlimited laces. Yes, they are made to break. Nobody wants their eye taken out. As the day go's on, they probably try and patch up the semi broken lances so they can make a few more runs. Not for the audience.
