Aloha and Haitai! Mahalo and Nifee Deebiru Makani for the lovely talk story. I just wanted to say I am not an expert in Japanese and Okinawan culture in Hawaii - still have a lot to learn!
We were at Kulia i ka nuu Health Fair on November 3rd and enjoyed your music, dance and food. I also loved Kuuipo Kumukahi’s stories. Thank you for educating us!
Idiots...
Nobody talks about this...
Real hawaiians and native americans are black
My mom’s family came from Visayas (maternal) and Ilocano (paternal) via Kauai. I and my brother were born on the mainland as my Mom moved there, then met my Dad who worked for the government. Whoooaa… he grew up in TO? i grew up next door in Westlake Village (where there were only 4 filipino’s in school). Pure haole territory. I knew almost nothing about my filipino /hawaiian background except when I visited in the summers…. I am learning A LOT now!
Abdullah Fataai
My great grandfather Cheong Wong grew up Palama Settlement. As a keiki I learned Kajukenbo the first Mixed Martial Art, created at Palama settlement
#holtohana Danny is my cousin
Like this Podcast so much. Glad I come across this amazing Culturised one.
My cousins are part Cherokee and Hawaiian.
My grandmother Shirley Sue Wong(Pung) grew up Papakolea
So nice seeing & hearing Kalena in this casual interview setting , She is So Talented ,so well poised & excellent communication skills & i know her teaching tech. Is all Pono. Take Care bro great Show..
Thinking of a unique and purely Bisaya fore-arm design to honor my Cebuano heritage and to show our Pre-colonial Pintado culture. Personally, i want to honor my ancestors, both known and unknown, they should not be forgotten, now more than ever.
Shout-out to Unko L, the Black Hawai'ian 💯
Sad 😔 too hear this. Stay strong my red Nation
Braddah Lionel🤙🏾
Im koarean chamorro and I loved ro called Micronesian
ofcourse you are micronesian brother.
they use the word nation wildly out of context. I'm convinced they have no idea what the word nation means.
RIP Twinkle
Y’all are Siberian, not aboriginal to this land, enough already. You’re standing in for the aboriginals of this land who are misclassified as a color in order to take us out of our Nationality & HERitage. First Negro, then black, then colored, now African-American. This won’t be tolerated any longer. It’s over.
These are beautiful people but not aboriginal to this land.
Mahalo nui Maddy and Lily and Kua’ana project for all the hard work that you do and educating the masses and making sure that our community have proper and fair access to health care, employment, housing and all the other needs that the Kua’ana project covers. Im so proud of the both you, as i come from a time when HRT was not offered by Kaiser or HMSA and just preventative health care in general. To see the younger generation making a difference in lives that matter. Its already difficult enough with the hum drum of the daily grind. But to make life a little bit easier to have what the rest of our society has. A job, a home, a car, and to be able to live a healthy prosperous life. There is no place like home, Hawaii!! And thank you brother for having the girls on your show.
Da braddaz are icons in Hawaii
Captain James Cook and Christian missionaries' attitude towards the Native Hawai'ians was like: you weren't allowed to speak Olelo Hawai'i at school & at government buildings, only English; you only could speak Hawai'ian at home.
One best quote i keep from ozeky till this day says " ISLAND BEAUTY BREAK MY BODY"🤙TONG NGONUK PWI
I love youre show braddah.you the only one who have micronesians on youre show. We appreciate that brah
"Prime Rib... $4.95." - the host of "Culturised"
one thing that is no longer is thing, at the Waikiki hotels, in the present day: "showrooms" (the Outrigger Hotel Hawaii (think of the "Society Of Seven" singing group) = Blue Note Hawaii); Don Ho, Al Harrington, Danny Kaleikini and Melveen Leed = all of them are Hawai'i's musical legends. For vintage 70's-80's Hawaii comedy, the legends were: Andy (Bumatai), Rap Reiplinger (Booga Booga), Frank (DeLima), Mel Cabang, and ventriloquist Freddie Morris (with Moku Kahana). I liked Kelly's Drive Inn/Bronco Bar (by the airport), it is now a Harley Davidson/"Cycle City" motorcycle shop, in front of a Wendy's fast food drive thru restaurant. Fisherman's Wharf: I never did eat at the restaurant, but on the 2nd level, I went to Al Waterson and You; it was also a nightclub called "The Living Room." Coco's = the Hard Rock Cafe (280 Beach Walk) => Honolulu Coffee. J. Akuhead Pupule (Hal Lewis), a great radio personality. I like the (David) (Hassel)Hoff (Knightrider; BayWatch). I remembered the original International Marketplace, plus the small (kiosk) shops (like at the Aloha Stadium flea market/swap meet); there is a Don Ho statue at the International Marketplace; in the new location. (I liked the Top of Waikiki (rotating restaurant) when it was open; kinda like the "La Ronde" (UFO building) rotating restaurant / doctors and real estate offices; designed by architect John Graham Jr.)); there is a Don Ho statue at the International Marketplace; in the new location. I saw an old match(box) for Spencecliff Restaurants once. This is like a Bob Sigall "RearView Mirror Insider" column; author of "The Companies that we Keep" book series, about Hawai'i's history.
R.I.P. to that Kanaka Maoli braddah, Robert Kekaula, the sports anchor (KITV 4 (Island News), R.I.P.
Fantastic interview!! Spencecliff was such a big name. Mahalo nui loa for the great background and history. 🤙🌴😎🌺❤️
What a beautiful podcast. The talent and background of Liu is so important that I'd wish she was a guest on a lot of the podcasts aired to New Zealand, Australia & Tonga. Thank you Liu for sharing. ..my grandmother's name was Liuaki as well ❤
My Mom (MaryAnn Gumpfer) was the Head Bartenderess at TOPS WAIKIKI for over 20 years. Loved working there, retired only because we her children all lived in California and now were having children and she wanted to be where her children and grandchildren where.
My Mother worked for TOPS WAIKIKI back in the late 50's and retired from Spenceciff after 20 years. Great company to work for. Spence Weaver was a sweet and very caring man. Always took good care of his employees.
I've also heard that Aloha shirts came from Okinawans. They used to make shirts from ladies yukata.
In my family, they came from Okinawa to Brazil, they say the secret for a long life is goya 😂
So..... when is this book coming out?
Wonderful show! Thank you.
It's crazy. Hawaiians don't like black people. Why?🤔
😂😂
