I personally don't care if a game has pronous or body type shit. It's buzzwords. If you select it's a man, then the game treats your character as a man. All good. BG3 is a great example of how to make it organic. However... if a GAME DIRECTOR goes on unhinged rants 3 months before the release... welll... that sends a message that it goes beyond those pronouns. Added with maliciousness of their reveals where they didn't allow showcase of the character creator. They knew. They are ashamed and know people will go on a rampage. That is arguably more disrespectful. At least stand for what you believe instead of trying to hide it.

While I didn’t stick to outer worlds long enough for multiple playthroughs, the game was passable enough and showed that obsidian has the potential to make some amazing games. I was planning on buying Avowed at launch. After pronouns were discovered I decided to wait and see on the game. Now that the art director took off his mask, this game has lost all interest from me. Obsidian truly isn’t the same studio that made FNV, that’s for sure.

I have to disagree with your point that people should be allowed to say anything they want (without consequences). If he would have written something along the lines, that he hates conservative voters, yes he should have been allowed to write that. However - even though he used his private account - he explicitly linked his work on the game as intentionally done in a way to "own the chuds". At this point his comment directly impacts the product in question and the company he works for. If he would get fired for that it would be justified.
