Hello Welcome to my TH-cam channel I offer practical demonstrations of Bond Knitting Machines, the Bond Classic & Ribber, Classic Plus, Incredible Sweater Machine and the Elite & Ribber. I'm also going to make a series of videos of my Brother Convertible KX 395.

It's eased off here, bit of tailgating and going rather slow for an actually dry road. The rain didn't get this far.

Thanks you 🎉
I just found your channel, your the first person I have found with the same Sweater machine as me (or at least super similar) and I am a very visual learner, so thank you for making these videos you have on your channel. I just got this machine about 3 days ago and I am loving it, and I need to make a hat here soon, so Im gonna watch your stuff to learn more about all of this 😊
You're very welcome I hope my videos help you.
How can I do all this without the cards?
Didn't you get them with the machine? You can use a Ruler if you don't have cards. To get them to forward working position, push your needles back until the open latches rest on the cast on elastic.
Thankyou very much for your videos David - I got myself a Bond Incredible Sweater Machine second hand at the start of the month and many videos, including yours have got me to the point of binding off the back of my first sweater! I found your commentary great, like a time capsule. As you spoke about the November sunshine whilst I sit at my knitting machine, four years later with the sunshine shining into the lounge here - having just witnessed another US election.
You're very welcome, I remember making this video it seems like yesterday.
You have taught me so much. No advice has been as easily digestable and helpful as your videos have been. The biggest thank you from 2024 ❤
Thank you, you're very welcome.
Ive just finished my first ever knitting project on the bond: a sweater for my niece! I learned everything from your videos, not an exaggeration. Thank you so much. You are an incredible teacher, and made the knitting machine far less intimidating. My sweater may be a little wonky, but it taught me so much and has given me confidence in the craft. Im so proud to finally be able to make this comment. Thank you from the depths of my heart for being such a wonderful teacher, david ❤
David, thank you for your videos. I love your comments.
You're very welcome
Love it ,great going ,I like watching your videos ,Thank you for your post ,it's also important to resin your number fittings ,makes it easier to slide across

You're welcome.
How do you replace a knitting hook
On that machine you carefully pull out the plastic rail where the needle needs to be changed, use some small pliers and some material to protect it be gentle! Replace your needle and put the slot back, gently tap it in with something, not a hammer though.
Hi again,Davie, I noticed that you have keyplates that do not have the little velcro squares on them. Are your ribber keyplates the regular keyplates from the Bond main bed? The velcro strips fell off of my ribber keyplates. Do I need really need them? Should I glue them back on?
The Velcro, no you don't need them at all. It was not one of their better ideas, they thought it would make them fit more snugly into the Carriages but they made no difference to it!
@@daviemac9925 thank you, I was trying to glue them back on! So I just don’t have to do that, good!
Hi Davie, how many stitches can you do in rib cast ons? I am only doing 32 left and rigth of 0, and it is very hard, because the ribber carriages are in the way of the brackets. I even moved the brackets to the ends of the bed. Should I add extensions to the main bed? I think that would help, do you? I guess I would have to exstend both beds?
The brackets shouldn't be in the way, they're underneath the beds. The problem with just the original 100 needle beds and the Ribber Carriages is running them to the end they come off. 40 each side is probably the limit. you can knit If you can get hold of them, fit the extension kits. What I ended up doing with my Ribber was getting the extension kit and using it with the Classic Plus.
@@daviemac9925 oh thank you Davie! I put an extension on the main bed, earlier! Is there a video on how to put extensions on the ribber? Is it easy enough to figure out, if I take the metal plate off of the ribber?
@@knit1924 Hello. I've never seen a video on fitting the Ribber extension, You take the metal plate off the main Ribber and join the extension the same way as you did the main bed. Then refit the metal plate so it covers the extension, fill the gap in at the other end by attaching the metal plate that comes with the Ribber extension kit. It's really important that you do it this way round, if you replace the Ribber plate as was and fit the extension plate to the new piece, it could snap off when knitting.
@@daviemac9925 thank you so much, Davie. So, the way I understand you is, I would definitely have to put both extensions on the ribber bed?
@@knit1924 It should be one piece, as you have to overlap the long metal bed over the extension side, then fit the short length to the other end, to stop the bed snapping in two.
Hi Davle, where does one buy the ribber extension parts? Do the ribber exxtention parts come with the ribber?
Thank you for posting this, David. The book that came with my USM only has instructions for the backstitch bind off, so I appreciate this video.
What am I looking for?
The Elephant.
@@daviemac9925which one; the one on the ground or the one in the tree?

I know it's an old video, but thank you for making it, I hope I can find more. Cheers!
I keep meaning to find the time to remake them all.
@@daviemac9925 I hope you manage to find time when it's convenient. Cheers!
Hi Dear Hope you are well. I visited your youtube channel and making videos is very good. Your content idea is very good. If you give permission. I will share some information to increase your channel. Then you get lots of subscriber and views Waiting for your valuable response. Best regards Thank you
I wondered what to do with that cast-on weight when it hit the floor. Thanks!
Bond used to recommend pinning it up, but I always found that way stretched the work and left holes in the kitting.
My Bond only knits in one direction. Why? It will knit right to left but not back again. Someone just gave it to me brand new never used so she doesn't know. Thanks
Which model is it please, Elite or any of the others?
@@daviemac9925 I think it is the regular Bond with the purple carriage. Thanks.
@@annesummers09 Look at my machine in the video, see the red rail at the front, (yours maybe a different colour) run your finger along and see do you feel any raised part. Then check along the back row, they should be smooth with no bits sticking up. That's the most common sticking point on these older machines. Can you put the carriage on with no knitting and no keyplate in and slide it back and too? Try that first and then get back to me.
@@daviemac9925 No raised parts, it rides smoothly. It knits the cast on row but no more rows after that.
@@annesummers09 If it's the USM Ultimate Sweater Machine, there was a design fault with them. Unfortunately, they are now out of business, the only thing to do is to try and get hold of an older carriage and keyplates and if that doesn't solve the problem, we aren't going to be able to. They said it was an issue with the moulding of the plastic parts, unlike Bond UK they contracted everything out, whereas here everything was made on site. I'm sorry this isn't the positive outcome I like for people.
Great advice.
Thank you.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Is is easy to do circular knitting in this machine, like as in a “tube”? Thanks!
Hi The circular cast on is just a way of making a closed edge cast on when working on a twin bed set up, it's complicated to knit a circle but can be done. You would need to cast on all needles on both sides and knit the back bed then the front, that's the only way to do it. Every row you would have to stop and change the keyplate over from one side to the other.
Thank you for the time you put into making this video. I have a physical disability. It has recently worsened. One of my friends has gone out of his way to support me. Anytime I've wanted to talk about it or play a game while feeling physically weak from pain he's been there. I am making him a scarf to show my appreciation. I had to look up how to cast off. Thank you for being a part of me showing the appreciation to this friend. I don't have the proper words to express it. I've really appreciated your help with finishing off my project.
You're very I'm welcome glad to be able to help.
Hi
Hello
muchas gracias
?
Thank you David ♥
Wow, that knits so smoothly ♥
The brush trick is going to be a game changer. I have closed needles after almost every row ♥
When you're knitting regular rows with all your working needles at the regular working position, it doesn't matter whether they're open or not, as they will open automatically and close again as you knit across the row. If you have needles in the forward position, then you do need to check before knitting that latches are open, or you'll lose the stitches! The brush is OK if you haven't got a cut off credit card.
I was struggling with this yesterday! I’m so glad I found this

Thank you! Reminds me if God watches over the sparrow he watches over me! And you! Thanks for videos 😊
Thank you so much for this! In 35 years of machine knitting on all makes of machines - I have never been able to use a Bond successfully, so this gives me hope to try again.
You're welcome and good luck. The Bond is really easy when you get the hang of it.
I love these videos and the casual updates about your day/week during the lockdowns in each video. I hope you are well.
I'm really well thank you, hope you are too.
I'm left handed also ❤
I just noticed your carriage was on the right side of the machine😂 just like cars in the UK
As were the Bond instructions, always with the carriage on the right hand side.
God bless you man
This is just beautiful, David. God bless you.

Thank you for sharing. I really appreciate your informative quick videos.
Yes it does help to have the keyplate in right 😆. Wow! Those caston combs look fabulous, are they still made? The row counter you have on this machine, from what I could see of it was the same size and shape as the one I've got. Ah well, it works, I just got to remember to click it manually. 😁
Click on the link in the description, I'm sure they still make them. There's also a woman in Australia who makes cast on hems from Leather. www.ebay.co.uk/usr/tassiejanknitting/
Thats a really nice way of doing the lace and as you said you get the extra embellishment that's really nice. I've been trying to get hold of a bond elite for years, it's nice seeing one in action. Unfortunately when I see them they're usually in America and they might not cost too much there, but once the exchange rate kicks in and freight is added the price is just crazy to get anything like that to Australia!
The Elite is pretty rare now, it went out of production in 2000. The odd one still crops up from time to time, but it's mostly here or the USA and as you say the shipping is astronomical.
@@daviemac9925 yeah, I did see one in the UK the other day, but there were bits missing, still I really enjoy using my bond USM, I'd also like to get the keypads that have the half size on one side, but they're rare as well.
I can't get my row counter to go on my bond, so I just click it manually but it would have been nice if I could have got it on. Cheers!
You can't put a counter on the fashion knitter, on the Classic, Classic +, Home Knitter, USM and ISM it snaps under the back of the bed in the middle.
@@daviemac9925 I have a row counter that came with my bond, but I've not been able to get it to snap onto the bed, I've even watched a video I found that was done by a fella called joey Cole (the sweater factory) and its not bad instruction, but I think the counter I have must be for another machine.
@@howlingwind1937 I wonder if the one you've got is meant for the Elite?
@@daviemac9925 maybe? Where it's suppose to clip onto the bed, into those nubs, the grooves or whatever they're called, on the row counter are v shaped as apposed to square shaped so there's no way it's going to attach. I have thought of using a file on it to make it the right shape but not sure if that's a good idea or not. I don't have an elite and haven't actually physically seen one so I couldn't say. Cheers!
