The #Leica Q titanium was a limited edition Leica that was exactly the same as the standard Leica Q. But as it turns out it was nothing special except for the look. I take a long look at one of the best travel, family, and street photography tools ever made. Leica purposely left enough ambiguity in the marketing to mask the fact that it was not in-fact made of titanium and was simply a coat of ...

    just got an MP 240 with brassing. I love it. My first digital. Image is beautiful, like my film work on my mamiya 7Ii. Its such a nice machine to use. simple and even more simple if you want it to be. The MP version has a larger / faster buffer, quieter shutter, focal range selecta switch on front and of course brass top and bottom. I under expose my DNG's by half a stop and i havent had any exposure issues.

      Funny you mention medium format. I sold it for a cash + trade deal and got a Hasselblad 6X6 too. I miss the hell out of the true rangefinder setup, but the Hassy + film is just so damn good. It has also recently almost doubled in price.

      @oh_aces that's cool. I had a cw500 with 3 lenses and the acue matt 2 screen and 2 A24 backs. Sold it as it was just sitting in my bag for 2 years. Only use mamiyas now for work in studio like the rzii. Or the chamonix H for 4x5 work. Hassy is a great camera. The mamiya 7II has gone crazy prices too

    At this point, it seems 10 out of 10 times, you have to pay over market average to even get a working camera. That is beyond frustrating, since there really aren't any 1:1 fully mechanical alternatives. I myself bit the bullet of hoping electronics don't fail and got myself a Minolta CLE. Let's see how long that lasts. Might have no choice but to invest in the future.

    • @oh_aces
      @oh_aces หลายเดือนก่อน

      The vivid film sim definitely looks like scanned slide film with the saturation bumped down. But if I'm being totally honest the RAW files aren't that great to work with when compared to newer stuff. For instance my Panasonic S1 might have the best colors and files I've ever seen on full frame, and even that camera/ sensor isn't all that new. That said, I found the M240 files fairly easy to edit to look a lot like Fuji Superia 400, which is probably my 2nd favorite film behind Ektachrome. The standard jpeg output should definitely tweaked in camera if the jpegs are your thing.

    Does this camera use a m39 mount????!

    • @oh_aces
      @oh_aces หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes, sort of. The leica thread mount is also known as the universal thread mount. M39 lenses can have a different registration distance which can mean that they may not focus to infinity on thread/ screw mount bodies. You should look up compatibility for each individual lens, since I am not 100% on this.

    Great video! Do the film ends overlap or are they taped end to end? Wish there was a video of them being taped together! Thanks for sharing!

    • @oh_aces
      @oh_aces 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Both, but I would say that the 1.5 - 2 extra frames are maybe not worth the effort for doing it. I've just gotten good and fast at it. The issue with the overlaping is that it might cause binding or catch on rewind if you aren't super careful with that tape. When I tape them without overlap I just make straight cuts and make sure that the space between sprocket holes is correct. So far no issues in 10 -15 rolls.

    I want to buy my first camera for photography interships and work possibly and so far the leica T and Tl2 are within my budget-which one is better for work/more versatile? (I have a leoca sofort I want to trade in for store credit at my local leica boutique and get either a body or lens)

    • @oh_aces
      @oh_aces 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wouldn't buy this model for a professional or semi-pro setup. There are FAR better sensors in full frame that cost about half of this body. If you want a lightweight setup with sigma crop sensor L glass this is ok. If you want a hybrid photo/ video camera got for an older Canon R body, or Panasonic S1/ S5. If you need really good autofocus go with canon or even sony. If you need good autofocus for stills, excellent color science, and robust files for cheap, but bad video autofocus go for older Panasonic S series. I would also mention that if youre adapting old SLR or rangefinder lenses go for Panasonic S1. It has an excellent viewfinder, and the focus peaking is also great. Panasonic has incredible customization and exposure tools, and is built to last a million years. If you have a big budget and want the best quality stills, just buy a Fuji GFX 50 series.

Went to an antique mall 10 mins away from where I picked the camera up and found a nicca type iiis with a Nikkor 50 1.4. Picked that up for the lens ($50 total) and have been shooting with it since. I have an FT3 and a Nikkormat EL that I bought new in the 1970s. Meter out on the FT3, but both still work great. Just wanted to mention that the stop-down button on the FT3 is more for checking DOF than metering, so it’s still functional. Having used all of the older Nikons from that time, the indexing requirement to mount lenses was irritating at first, but you got used to it with use. Bargain lenses for it are found on lots of sites and may be better options if the Soligor is less than stellar. Good review though. I never liked the slider to change ISO though.

    • @oh_aces
      @oh_aces 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the prices are overinflated right now. I got mine for like $450 years ago, but it has a stuck battery, so no external charging. I also need to sell it now that I need to reinvest the money in to film projects. I think for that much $ you can get a used Fuji with better colors, and much cheaper native glass. That said you won't be happy if your heart is set on the T.

    I love the leica t , I upgraded the firmware , I upgraded the internal memory and wrote an article on leica rumors about it , the t is magical , the back screen is amazing , if you use manual lenses on it , I shhoot street on it everyday with a 90 mm 1.25 lens you swipe right and the whole screen goes into 16x9 mode , the pop up flash is amazing and has a great throw and nice fill , battery life is 250-300 shots the sensor is so rich with color and sharp and the leica stack is thinner than the fujifilms giving you more 3d pop ! , you can lock out the screen while shooting and the sigma lenses are amazing , getting a autofocus for this price is insane ! the t didn't have wifi though , you needed a phone hotspot of connect it to a router to communicate to it , the batteries are still expensive for it and since people are talking about the price went up again , i love the fujifilm x trans 1 sensor the colors are my fav but Id say leica wins this one for being so crazy and good to use in hand i love it

    Older lenses like that are not so difficult to disassemble and clean. Unless the fungus has etched the coating, the repair is complete. I inherited my dad's FTn which he bought at the PX in Okinawa along with a 50mm f/1.4 lens (I also have) that cost his entire monthly salary. My mom, back stateside living on a base with a toddler was livid. Some 60 years later, I think all is forgiven now. I used that camera growing up. Back around 2017, I arranged dual layovers in Tokyo so I could drop off and pick up the camera and lens from a repair shop run by retired Nikon engineers and technicians. Almost everyone there was in their 70's or 80's, working part time continuing their passion. When I went to pick up the camera, they gave me a little baggy of a slightly corroded plate and some contacts for the meter they replaced. They were curious why it might be so corroded and I explained the camera was on a sailboat for 2 years in Central America in 1979-80. The Nikkormat FTn isn't a tank, it's a battleship.

    • @oh_aces
      @oh_aces 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What a story! I recently got my hands on a Nikon F photomic FOR FREE! The owner just asked that I repair and reuse it, and I got it working, with a few hiccups still needing resolution. It was also purchased on a PX (Vietnam) and was traded to the guy who sent it to me for a Triumph motorcycle. It still needs a thorough mirrorbox repair but I got it back to the point where the shutter is accurate and this thing would still run if I was "in the field", and it was all I had. Battleships Indeed!

Some of them were cosmetically pretty thrashed when i got them, but none have ever needed maintenance. It's a get-it-done camera. The M9 is Kodachrome, the M240 is Agfachrome which was the better film. And battery life, very good. All in all a good camera.
