I've yet to buy the game and have watched so many reviews. So far this is my favourite review of the game. When I get it I'm either going to explain it like you do, or just show people the video!

Thank you, that's an amazing compliment! I did make a warning on the video but Pax Pamir and John Company really are very different in terms of their weight, theme and all the other mechanics in the game (e.g. pax pamir involves tableau building and area control), but where they feel the same is the negotiation and table talk above the table between players! Very few games capture that in my opinion
Thanks for this! I'm on the fence about getting GAH, and your negative points are definitely making me re-consider the fervor I had to snap it up. Maybe the theme spoke to me too much, and I wasn't paying enough attention to the actual mechanics of the game. Now that I have, it might not actually be a good fit for my collection after all.
The theme really is wonderful, each staff card has its own art and name. Each guest looks unique too! The artwork is filled with little things that make me smile, like the guest name being on a reservation card on their dining table. It just didn't excite me gameplay wise. There are more rules quirks I didn't mention in the video due to time but the core gameplay loop is as I've described. I do seem to be in the minority with how I feel about this game, so if you're interested and have an opportunity to try it I definitely still would. It just doesn't feel worthy of keeping in my collection compared to other games I have.
@@Good_Wood Yeah the theme is what was selling me (blinding me, really). My collection's already hovering around 200, so I think I'll probably skip GAH for now. It was refreshing to see a review that wasn't just kissing the game's ass (most reviews skew that way). Keep up the good work.
@@DangerousPuhson 200! Amazing. I started making these videos to force me to play the games I already have more and make decisions on which games to sell. It was working until my recent decision to FINALLY get twilight imperium. :D
