Thank you. There are two types of alpaca fleece. One is called a Suri, and the other is called a Huacaya. The Suri looks like dreadlocks and the Huacaya is like a cuddly Teddy bear.

Hi @eliseyoder8562, it was lovely of you to notice. Yes, the lighter one is happy on the contact equipment. And the darker one prefers the weave polls. They both love going on the raised tub. Sadly, I have lost the lighter one, Katie now. But I love watching this video showing how much she loved it ❤️

Give them something light to lift, but too big for them to swollow. They're naturally inquisitive, so they will probably pick it up to test it. Then get them to give it to you in exchange for a treat. Mine like bits of carrots 🥕

Hi Lindsay, I haven't ever followed anyone's method, I just go by my gut instinct, my instinct tells me, if you drive any animal away from you, especially in order to put them in a confined area to handle them. This method will only make them submissive due to not having another option. I prefer to encourage them not to fear me, or feel they have to be sent away from me. I want them to feel it's their choice to join me. Sorry if that's not the answer you were hoping for, but I can't either recommend or criticise a different method that I haven't researched or tried. My own method has worked for me and my alpacas, horses, goats and dog all come for cuddles.

Hi Elizabeth. Have you tried just sitting in a chair with them in a small area. Their curiosity overcomes them after a while, and they will start to come closer. Do this regularly, without touching them for months, it's very tempting to reach out to stroke them, but this can put you back a few steps. If you take a book or something, they will soon realise you aren't anything to be concerned about, if you aren't watching them. It will give them confidence. Good luck, hopefully by the summer you will have cracked it 👍

@@lindymoors5701 oh yes! I will even go lay in the field on pretty days and here they come. We had one that loved to be touched and scratched behind the ears. She seemed to know when I needed her cuddles. She would come to me and tolerate me until I was done. Then when she needed them she came to me. Unfortunately I didn’t know and see signs of her being sick. She died in March of 2021! 😭. The others are getting there with their nudges.

Hi Jean, no they wouldn't like periodic bathing, other than dust baths, they really appreciate and love those.

marquise Washington , sadly I feel people handle alpacas and llamas by driving them away to a handling pen. I feel this tells the animals to always move away from you. I use the reverse psychology, I in courage them to come towards me, I never make them fear me. The two I have here, the dark one is 2 in this video and the other one is a year old, she is just learning to lay down on by a gentle touch. Maybe you would enjoy watching my video of taking alpacas out walking in a relaxed manner.
