Something that I just never had understood even decades ago when it sounded more plausible was to use 💯 % oxygen in the capsule. Especially during a ground test. It wasn't necessary at all, and obviously increases the danger factors! The astronauts had their own air supply and weren't breathing the capsules oxygen. I still can't figure it.

It's not even the screaming, just the fact that these steely eyed missile men, these calm, cool, focused test pilots were speaking in such excited tones, it's completely bone chilling. Rest in peace and godspeed to Astronauts Chaffee, Grissom, and White.

Since the Apollo 1 disaster occurred before it ever flew, we can't know for certain if the pure oxygen issue would have been addressed. What we do know is that the U. S. wanted to get to the moon "before this decade is out". We know that pressure to launch killed people in Soyus 1, Challenger and Columbia. Space travel is dangerous enough without political agendas or personal career goals making it more so.

5 minutes too late the safety hatch was unbelievably difficult to open Apollo 1 was doomed from the start Gus Grissom should have been the first man to walk on the moon not Neil Armstrong. God bless Chaffee white and Grissom completely unnecessary and you can thank JFK for this as well all they did was cut Corners with the Apollo 1 mission it was rushed and it was a disaster waiting to happen

Heck no, they couldn’t egress, because they were bolted in!!

I always either do this or i take a heat gun and make them into spirals like i wrap then around a screw driver really tight along the screw driver then use heat gun to heat insulation and let it cool whole still on screw driver shaft the. Slide the wire or wires off and you have noce beautiful spiral pog tail wires that you can hook up and they will stay the oerfect length no matter what and looks really beautiful as well everyone loves my cars that i do that to including my 1/10 scale carpet oval and road course cars and my electric rc olanes especially wjen you got 5-10 servos on a giant 1/4 scale rc plane doing the pig tails really makes wire management easy and looks beautiful aith a bunch of them done like that.
