Old days ❤❤❤
Gaza created all the chances
I HAVE NO DOUBT GAZZA WAS THE MOST ENTERTAINING ENGLAND PLAYER EVER IN A WORLD CUP. WHAT A GENIUS.
Leniker dive for the two penalties..... Cameron was rubbed.
another english robbery but still they leave without the title coming up to 60 years and still no trophy for england lol
Back when European national teams still used players of their own respective nationalities.
Cameroon '90 and Nigeria 96-98 the two biggest superpowers in African football history
It hadn't occurred to me that Paul Parker was put central defender. What a brilliant defender, By the way, I think the referee was conducting an opera with a brass band. What his arms waving about
Peter Shilton ( lovely man got nothing against him personally) was a Frickin liability though that Tournament. He cost us the World Cup . He was 40 ffs . Well passed his best. You’re telling me there wasn’t any other keeper at the time to take his place!?
A team full of native Englishman playing for their ancestral homeland?!?
Superb goal.
this euros reminds me of this tournament, england were crap in every game apart from the semi, saved by platts quality late goal here, as were by judes.
Peter Shilton of Derby County F.C. 🏴
Italia 90 and USA 94. Two magical World Cups. Subsequent tournaments never had that special feel to them. Maybe it's just nostalgia. I was 7 and 11 at the time, respectively.
I remember it very well, getting ready for penalties and Platt scores a cracker. What a first goal for your country.
A team that england should have hammered, it was belgium who were minnows in those days. Bet they didnt get the criticism our team gets now
Belgium was so much better then England very unlucky....
Feels a bit like the Euros now. A very talented England side playing well beneath their level and being lucky to get through again after a bang average group stage.
England were poor in this game, got lucky, better team lost
Today's VAR would have killed the goal and all the hard work that came with it.
This England’s victory was really really unfair
RIP John Motson
According to this commentary.. thd match finished 34 yrs ago yet the comme tary is still going😮
The sound was out of sync.
What a save… Gordon Banks…
Never liked David platt…. He gave Gail a hard time.
Platt's goal makes Bellingham's Slovakia winner look like a tap-in...
What is Platt doing these days???
What a delivery, what a execution ⚽️
Three England goals I always think of over the last 50 years is this one, Beckhams free kick and the Gaza goal
David platt, of Aston villa, who is soon to piss of, just like any player in form that villa ever have.
Clear penalty on Lineker. Probably a red card these days too.
People often overlook Gascoigne's brilliant run that wins the final free kick. Right at the end of extra-time, he's still charging forward with the ball. ... like NO-ONE does for England today. Football is a simple game ... if you let the players play it.
Now that's a Goal 💥
The phrase ' A David Platt moment' came to me after Bellingham's last minute goal v Slovakia.
Not a winner
belgium were miles better than England here, thank god they had that Platt goal..
Brilliant goal. Not the greatest bit of defending though haha
Did anyone notice that the scoeboard in the top left corner of the screen changes incorrectly for the first two goals? When England score their first, Cameroon's score changes and when Cameroon score their first, England's score changes from zero to one. It changes correctly for the rest of the goals.
Goals scored on a volley are always extra special. The way Platty moves here, just right! Perfection!
This was one tournament to many for Shilton
@0:37 Lineker's header's good but what a return pass by Waddle, sprinting, one touch, outside of the foot, perfectly setting up the chance.
England we're pretty much useless in this tournament also. Arguably there best two performances were against The Netherlands and West Germany.
100% correct.
England were awful in the first round. The Holland game was slightly better but in truth both England and Holland were pretty uninspiring. Then lucky to get past Belgium and Cameroon, and because the pattern is always that England go out to the first top previous winner of the World Cup team they face, they managed to get to the semis, a very unusual occurrence. Then a good, spirited performance against Germany, the reason that makes England fans think England were great as a whole in that WC but they weren’t.
Platt was a really good player. Other than Gascogne probably England’s best player of that era.
The days before Belgium received its demographic makeover. Things are much better as a result of course.
Hard to believe Lineker is the same person we see on tv today. National hero/poster boy to pathetic woke greedy bell end
That goal from Platt was a wonder strike. I will always remember this goal. This is one of my first memorys watching football.
I was in pub with my pals, can't believe its that long ago now it's scary
Watching it at the time I remember thinking Lineker was looking for both of those pens. Having watched it again 34 years later I stand by that.
First one hard to tell with limited camera angles back then. Second one definitely.. kicks it to nowhere and leaves his legs for contact. Ones like that should never be given. Happens every time these days.
The best England ever then comes 1996 and Southgate 2018- is nowhere
England weren’t exactly setting the world on fire in this tournament until that Platt goal.
You say that, in the next round Cameroon outplayed us and we were looking like going out until two Lineker dives. 😂The semi-final with Germany was pretty even, but we stunk this WC out almost as hard as we're stinking the current Euros, but not quite, haha. TBF, in terms of entertainment, it was one of the poorest WC there's been.
Belgium were the better team I remember watching it
yes they were the better team . England played well in 2 games, the 0-0 draw in the group stages against the Netherlands, and the 1-1 draw in the semi"s against Germany, apart from that ,England were ordinary
