[WEBINAR] Close Reading: How to Do it Right and Where it Goes Wrong with Brandon Abdon
Every ELA teacher knows how to do this, right? Not exactly. This FREE webinar invites all ELA teachers for an in-depth examination of the art of close reading, a critical skill for textual analysis and interpretation. Join host Dr. Brandon Abdon, whose years of researching, collaborating with, and coaching teachers contribute to an exploration of what close reading truly involves and the identification of common mistakes that can undermine its effectiveness. Learn how to avoid common pitfalls while developing a balanced approach that respects both the text’s details and its broader meaning. Attendees will walk away with practical techniques for performing close readings that enhance understanding and support students in transferring those skills beyond the ELA classroom.

[WEBINAR] A Rhetoric of Empathy in AP Lang with Dr. Brandon Abdon

So Mr Bush, Why did building #7 fall? It did not get hit by an airplane. It did house all of the pentagon budget receipts that was to be questioned by congress on 9/12/01. The copies were housed in the part of the Pentagon building that was hit. In the late 1930s, Grandfather Prescott Bush controlled the Union Bank, Hamberg-Amerika line, and assorted shell companies in order to send funds to Nazi Germany; well into 1942. Nazi Germany was a socialist ideology, State Power Over the individual. As with Hitler, both Bushes used the phrase "New World Order" in their speeches. These are FACTS. No one questions, no one researches and only throws out emotional words in order to "persuade" the audience. Main Stream Media uses this tactic. Free intuition? I have given cars, money, time to lots of people in my life. Whenever I have GIVEN something with no strings attached, IN ALL OF THESE CASES, the person does not appreciate it and squanders the free thing, as he does not work for it. They do not use it as a stepping stone to enhance their lives. When one invests his own resources, then one commits his SOUL, his INDIVIDUALITY, his ESSENCE and will appreciate it. A loan to be paid back will satisfy that investment, satisfies one's soul. Free stuff won't. The writings of Marx, Stalin, Lenin, Mussolini, Hitler, Shulamith Firestone (1970 book The Dialectic of Sex), all socialists, wish to abolish the individual (for the group), abolish the differences between the sexes, abolish the distinction between the adult and child, abolish the family unit, abolish private property, abolish the belief in a Creator God, abolish society in general, decrease the world's population. Their 1st person words from their own books. I personally show my left leaning friends these books and ask them why they follow this ideology, they respond with; "I do not wish to hear your rhetoric", while using other emotionally charged words. It is not my rhetoric, it is their philosophy. I realize that this lecture is about how to speak to an audience in order to persuade, and the use empathy, logic, trust in order to do that. Although I am 69, I am never too old to learn how to present concrete facts to people who are emotionally charged. How does one show emotionally charged progressives the intention of what they follow (which my opinion is that of a suicide cult). On the other hand, I gave up showing my right leaning Christian friends about Constantine and how he made early Christianity into a State religion in order to control the 60% of the population who were slaves. They are waiting for the fall of society so that their savior will descend from the clouds and save everyone ( a death cult in my opinion). Opposing sides of the same emotionally charged coin. No one uses logic! No one researches. No one questions. Their minds are closed. They all want death!
