I feel the mother could have done more to protect her daughter, from her grandmother. She left her daughter alone with a woman, even her own son couldn't stand and by all accounts is a nasty, vile woman.

Nice story but some times I wonder if they are twins or triplets.

This story is a bit pitiful. Joyce tells her grandma that she wants to go to her mommy, and grandma's first thought is to end Joyce's life and her own. Then grandma has a ridiculous conversation with James before calling the police. Common sense would have that she called the police as soon as she found Joyce. Then went to rescue her daughter. If there was a chair against the door so it couldn't open, how did James get out?
