Hi. My name is Phoenix (aka Stephan Heard). I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. I write. Writing is my passion. It is my life force; I am a fiction writer, poet, playwright, and philosopher. I hope to share my passion through my work. I hope you feel inspired by my work: I hope it gets you to feel. I hope my work causes you to burn with the fires that compose the heart of this universe: rise from the ashes, if you so desire.

Nice cover and great poem!❤
Great review of an underrated author. Very true the bleak reality that doing the 'right thing' doesn't necessarily mean you 'win' in life. My favourite Robert Cormier book I'd love to hear your thoughts on is We All Fall Down.
Sounds like a fascinating book! Thanks for the suggestion. I appreciate you listening and commenting.
😅 meanwhile i lack conviction with regard to the concept of light possessing an intrinsic property of speed.
I get that. 😁
I went deep as fk with it in cosmology... I started putting the puzzle together in my own way. The baseline of my ideas about cosmology is that everything is attempting to accrue more mass in order to evolve, and sometimes, this results in collisions 💥 that do a hard reset on the development of the affected structures. Also, seek information on what is the roche limit 😉 When I dove into black holes 🕳 I came across the work of Leonard Susskind who encapsulates the ideas I was having with a much more accredited take on things. 😅 As for the anthropic principle... I am not a fan of believing that our existence is narrowly tailored because there was once a time that we were not alive or living and so there will be another event in the future that mirrors that reality. Great video man!
Thank you for watching! The roche limit is a fascinating concept! Never heard about it before. Cosmology is a trip!
Nice job man!
Appreciate you watching!

yeeesss those eyes are really important to reach through the camera great start!

2 recommendations for your videos. 1. Look into the camera. 2. If your video is going to acknowledge subjects and topics from others, especially those of whom are well known, it would make sense to tag their name in the heading to help your advertising. Personally, I would have been extremely interested in topics concerning Saplosky. While you and I may not agree on many topics, I definitely support your ability to express yourself, bud. 🎉
Thanks for your thoughtful feedback, and for watching and listening. I would say I've only recently gotten in the habit of looking at the camera when using my iPad, but is something I've been trying to practice more, I just spaced on this video since I hadn't done one in a little while. When I'm working with my other camera, I tend to reference the books and thinkers inspiring me for the video. For my Manic Updates series, though, I try to build around a theme or word I pick, and this one was epiphany, which I tried to build on as it goes outside of just my understanding of Sapolsky's writing. Nonetheless, great advice. I appreciate that I can share my videos with people all around the world, and that we have this technology for expression and community. I hope to connect with others. We might not agree on many things but I hope we can find some commonalities and ways to bridge the gap. I'm not an expert on any of these subjects by any means I just try to create, and your support means a lot! I appreciate you checking it out and commenting. Stay well!
@Phoenix_Rises right on brother, you keep doing you 💯 😆 I'll make more videos, and you can critique mine 😉.
I appreciate you taking the time.

Hello.
A beginner with an RG8?!? That's a first, keep practicing homie.
I am always only competing with myself. My guitar teachers show me a lot about rhythm, music notation, technique, fingering, among many other important things, and they might be nice enough to say I’m probably fairly close to intermediate since I can’t really play solos. Honestly it’s been hard being band-less because I can’t practice the way I want, though I did have the chance to produce my song Bled, which I posted on TH-cam for free. I am absolutely a beginner with eight-string, but practiced a lot on my seven-string guitar before it got stolen out of my home with my other six-string Stratocaster and amp, forcing me to start over. So beginner mode it is. In reading tab, I can play metal songs by bands like Avenged Sevenfold, Megadeth, System of a Down, as well as more low-key songs by Blue Oyster Cult and Pink Floyd, which I can’t post due to copyright. But really I’m not worried about it, I’ve got five years of musical work under my belt on TH-cam and I’m really proud of it, even though it can be hard at times to see the bigger picture. I’d be curious about your own interests given your experience and interest. But I have no problem practicing since it’s always a challenge to step outside of an abstract Cartesian mode. Which is where I’m normally at. Thanks for listening. This song is still incomplete.
Your video quality is very good. Views are very low despite you uploading many videos, I reviewed your TH-cam channel and videos and noticed some possible tips that can help you increase your video views and subscribers. I would be happy to discuss further if you are interested.

@@Phoenix_Rises How can I communicate with you?
We are more connected than ever. Back in the day their wasn't even internet. Devastating is happening in the middle east. Let's count out blessing and continue to be our best self to lift our own feelings. I'm listening...
I listen to the complete video. Your throat energy center is very active. In your down time learn the depth of the breathe in the present moment to heal the memories of trauma. Research ' Ocean Breathe and practice it as a tool for life' see ya in time.
Thanks for watching. I hope to capture in the video the way that people can be overwhelmed by the world, but also the ways we rise above it.
Have you written this? If so , what is the rhyme scheme for it?
Yes, I wrote it. I don’t know the technical terms for what I’m doing since it is free verse, but I am creating my own beat and rhythm by feeling the impact of the words themselves and choosing emotionally charged words to rhyme. It’s a style I’ve developed that uses a lot of consonance and pays attention to how it sounds and feels. So the rhyme scheme fluctuates in my poems, I choose the rhythm. I appreciate you listening.
Phoenix, i love books! Thanks for this presentation, I've subscribed. I hope you keep putting out videos like this, all about the content, without the fluff of over-production and monetization. Thank you, brotherman.
I forgot to ask, what are your feelings about Tad Williams? How about Vernor Vinge? Vernor is my absolute favorite sci-fi writers, and just an amazing scientific thinker, all around.
I am embarrassed to say I’ve read neither author, but they are certainly on my list now! My emphasis for a while was on classic and modern literature, but I turned to sci-fI partly because I like the approach to storytelling; it often feels very existential, philosophical, and speculative. I think PKD stands out to me because his books are so adventurous and explore the deep unconscious mind. For such reasons I actually like unexpected authors such as Carl Jung, who delve deep into the human psyche. But I did start reading Wheel of Time a few years ago and that one appeals to me. I also hope to read more of Roger Zelazny, Aldous Huxley, Michael Crichton, and Isaac Asimov. With the movie Dune I’ve also been interested in that series more (still haven’t finished book one). I hope to continue to put out content without the fluff and huff. I have a lot of fun making videos and I hope to improve. It’s all DIY for me. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope to hear from you more often.
@@Phoenix_Rises You have a lot of authors on your list, me oh my. When it comes to Tad Williams, I think his greatest strength is in creating both engaging characters with well thought out motivations and backgrounds, as well as an amazing ability with world-building. He is a fantasy author, primarily, but his books are immensely engaging and approachable. The only issue is, it's really hard to do anything else as you'll likely find yourself on the rather addicted side to his books. It's a blessing and a curse. As for Vernor Vinge, he's well-known for his philosophical and futurist views, I believe also being named as the origin for the idea of the technological singularity. As one would imagine from such a science-based writer, many of his stories are considered hard sci-fi, emphasizing not just the world's, planets, and societies created within his book, but a near complete description of how they function, making them utterly believables, as well as conceivable as an outcome for even our own futures. Very engaging and rewarding reading.
@@Phoenix_Rises If you feel it's likely that you might not pick up the Dune books again, being compelled against it by that unnameable force that pushes one away from the things they feel they meant to do, but never seemed to come back to, one can find audiobooks of all of the Dune books on TH-cam. I'm not a HUGE fan of audiobooks over actually reading them, there's just something about the way written words hit the mind versus the way other forms of media do, however, I've found that Frank Herbert's writing style is fantastic at drawing so many facets of his worlds into a kind of reality that one can almost completely visualize. Even as audiobooks, his writings are very enjoyable. I have turned them on, played a "Black screen" video at the same time, to conserve power, then laid back, closed my eyes, and just let the stories bloom in my mind as the narrator reads the story to me. It's almost meditative in its effect.
Love that! I’ve been listening to more audiobooks on my commute to work. Right now been listening to The Sun Also Rises by Hemingway. I think I might enjoy the Dune audiobooks too. Fascinating suggestions! I’m always looking for an addictive read. I’ve been enjoying the journey expanding my library and checking things out. I didn’t know Vinge was credited with the singularity. Sometimes tenable hypotheses actually start in the domain of the speculative. I first became aware of that idea when reading about and exploring the ideas of Ray Kurzweil. I do think futurism is a common theme in sci-fi. I hope to read more! I appreciate your in-depth thoughts!
Congrats Phoenix
Thank you. Appreciate you watching.
Look into the camera and not the screen.
@DanLyndon. PKD explored the human psyche like no other writer. I cant understand how someone could read even the first two pages of "Do androids dream of electric sheep" and describe the characters as cardboard.
I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and encouragement.
Well, PKD wrote the equivalent of sci fi action movies with card board characters. Not exactly peak literature.
Well thank you for watching. Which writers have resonated with you? Which books are you interested in? I'm always trying to expand my taste.
"The only thing I know, is that I know nothing." --Socrates
Very wise words.
pretty good analysis and writing insight. i can relate may i politely suggest you get a mic
Hello! Thanks for watching and for the constructive criticism. I actually forgot to hook up my camera mic to this specific video; lessons always to be learned, lol; if I had done that the audio would have been better. I also had a nice microphone and equipment to go with it all, but I could never figure it out as it wouldn't sync; and then it got stolen recently, which I talk about in my five part video series Aftermath (that was a whole other thing that happened). I will definitely be making improvements as I am able, there's a lot I want to update and improve! So keep a lookout! Fun things are coming! I'm glad you liked the message and some of the writing tips. Pretty close to my heart. Thank you!
This is the youtube I want back. Someone who genuinely cares about what theyre talking about. They may not have the highest production quality, but their genuine enthusiasm for the topic shows.
I appreciate you watching! Thank you for your encouragement. Quality is one of my biggest priorities, and I hope to always have passion. This is a new series I’m embarking on. Stoked!
@@Phoenix_Rises np! I’ll be here for it!
Completely agree. I also do stuff like this, about music gear, and production value be damned, one should have fun making videos about their feelings, as this guy here is doing. A fine example, and a great comment.
Too true... i generaly do feel varied confusion regarding actions of others. I'm in my early 50's and still remain too puzzled~
They are complex feelings. Thanks for sharing them with me. Appreciate you watching.
I read that Mitchell was an autistic person with a lot of mental issues
Yes I think he did struggle.
I forgot about UBICK
He looked so genuinely excited during his introduction. Melted my heart
Kudos for making a video, but I would have to strongly disagree with basically everything you suggest... the "mind" is but a product of our existence, this is demonstrably true. Conclusive determinations made by science are not proofs because the term proof is a mathematical term. Even though I am in disagreement with your position, I still enjoyed the video and will continue to watch more.
I appreciate you watching! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Appreciate you stopping by.
and yet we DO know... we recognize continuity. 'knowing' might even be inventing continuity.
Fascinating point! I never thought of it that way.
Almost every idea is vying for powers of authority that seeks to benefit the standing of a particular group over another.
I have definitely felt that way many times.
Interesting
You got an awesome voice and points of views!
Thank you so much!
Mahn I think is the GERMAN pronunciation. GREAT OVERVIEW! THANK YOU!
Thanks for watching!
I just found your book at Marissa’s Book Store, the first few pages grabbed me, you’re a talented writer and I want to thank you for writing this book, it already speaks to me so deeply and I look forward to finishing it
Thank you for reading! I hope you enjoy! And thank you for reaching out. I'm glad it moves you, my friend. That means a lot. I hope you're able to find in it what you need. For me it's been a long journey, as it is for many people. I'm so happy to hear it resonates, and I hope you find the hope there.
I feel that i'd certainly need to have more frequent visits with my psychiatrist and my prescription dose would be increased to manage a break of my mind. Power to You ! What a traumatic violation of personal space 😢
Yes it has been very difficult. But I'm slowly able to let it go, through love, support, and hope. Thank you for your encouragement, and thanks for watching. Be well.
I’ve been watching your channel for a while and you’re very talented, It’s impressive that you didn’t let your ailments get in the way of your creativity. I’m seeking treatment for my bipolar depression/PTSD/Panic disorder in a couple weeks. In a manic episode rn can’t sleep. Any tips for asking my psych for a specific medication (Ativan) that I know will work? I just don’t want them to think I’m seeking it for any nefarious purposes, I genuinely need it.
Thank you for watching! I always appreciate it. As far as meds go, I don't know what would specifically help with mental health things, but in my work I've seen that advocating for your needs can help doctors figure out what you need. Advocating for yourself and feeling empowered to take the steps to improve your mental health. I have been able to do alright in life, given that medications can help and that I have healthy coping mechanisms and support from community. There are days where certainly my negative moods can take over, but they are fewer and farther between given that I have creative ways of dealing with adversity and dealing with my unstable moods. I believe in you!
