Skerry Raid - Ray Manta

Built a Skerry Raid - a plywood sailing dinghy based on a Chesapeake Light Craft Kit. Built her during a workshop with Arwen Marine in Compiègne, France. Called her Ray Manta. Now all that is left to do is sail!
Entre Terre et Der 2024 - Dinghy Cruising in France
Ray Manta joined around forty dinghies on the Lac du Der in France for a weekend of dinghy cruising, or as they say in French: La pratique de naviguer autrement - le voile-aviron.

Marine plywood is very expensive😢
Some designs do well enough with exterior grade. Of course, if you want the wood to be visible in the finished product, you need marine grade.
@@gastrofile jajaja you need see the marine plywood of Panama 🤣🤣 very ugly and expensive... some people prefeer use fenolic plywood

Hi, I came along this Skerry Raid design, and it realy looks nice. What is your experience in handling? And: is it possible to sleep in it with a bit of comfort? Would be great to hear of your experience, cheers, Thomas / Germany
Hi, she handles very well and I find her very stable. Have a look at this video for some windy sailing conditions (not my video): th-cam.com/video/d_afSHqXu7g/w-d-xo.html. Am also quite pleased with the Norwegian tiller. Requires a bit of mental rewiring, but once you have it, it's quite intuitive and comfortable. It is possible to sleep in, haven't tried though. Still missing the tent - which is another build project.
This borders on silly. Can't you do a proper "step-by-step" so we can see how it's done? Thanks.

Wanted to like this video but could not. Thought it might have useful information on the small boat building process. If one is taking the time to make and upload a video, why don't they take the time to explain the process instead of torturing us with mindless soundtrack noise?
