I loved him in the buffy film that predated the series. Glad you mentioned back draft because although Baldwin and Russell were the leads it was the scenes with de Niro and sutherland that really stood out. At the end you mentioned the space for a new actor with quirky looks (not conventionally handsome) to fill that same role, I'd suggest the guy from. Late night with the Devil (sorry can't remember his name).

Laird is one of my favorite authors, I didn't know this. I've read almost everything he's had published and purchased paper copies. I hope he comes out okay. He's a great addition to weird fiction as a genre.

Woo! Thank you kindly for the thoughtful responses. Concerning Quentin's novel: oh-no! Superlative, if harrowing, book. Quentin's work is great. I associate him with Nathan Ballingrud and Glen Hirshberg, but it's difficult to articulate precisely why. To date I've only read Simon's short fiction (love "Angels of the Silences, The Narrows," and the whole of the A HAZY SHADE OF WINTER collection), but I'll dip into a standalone novel at some point. After three purchases that resulted in no book, a friend loaned me Gemma's EXPERIMENTAL FILM which was my favorite read of last year (Lauren Groff's MATRIX and Elizabeth Hand's WYLDING HALL took silver and bronze for me). Such a beautiful, intelligent, emotionally excoriating, *honest*, and deliciously creepy book. Top five horror novel for me. A-ha! I recall hearing, or reading, about IN RED COMPANY. Sounds great. Might be some cross over with the Christopher Buehlman crowd. Ooo, I don't want you feeling bad. But when you write comparatively grounded stuff, "Emperor's Old Bones," EXPERIMENTAL FILM, most of the later short fiction (dude, you're absolutely killing it), you dwarf most other writers. Again, thank you. One of my favorite podcasts. Ballistic farts . . . Giles Blunt here I come.

It's a disgrace that the U.S. does not have single-payer universal healthcare that covers everyone.

Yay! Also, I want the origin story of how a Brit and a Canadian became such good buddies. And what's going on with her NIGHTCRAWLING or whatever novel is up next for Gemma? Opinions on REMEMBER YOU'RE A ONE-BALL? I loved when y'all talked about bullying, and I know NIGHTCRAWLING plays into that, but I was hoping you'd mention the Crisp novel in that regard. But, you can also ignore the previous and keep on doing what you're doing as I love it.
