Ruddington miniature traction engine rally 2024 pub run leaving the site
Had to stick to the path due to road works ahead, started off in top gear, should have used intermediate to save constantly adjusting the regulator.

Weald of Kent Steam 2024 Rally Sunday 4" McLaren
มุมมอง 2.4K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
Sunday was a beautiful sunny day, later in the day did a run around the runway, after getting to the bottom and turning to head back up found a number of fires started by another engine that had passed me earlier. Amazing how quick they grow, despite trying to beat the fire out nearest me with help from another miniature owner, thankfully Fire engines were there in quick time.

Where did you get the belt for the dyno? As seen in my profile picture, we have an engine (which i believe to be identical to yours), but it needs a belt.
I believe Norris and Piastri's McLarens are just a bit faster.
But not as much fun as those built a hundred years ago by John & Henry McLaren
i must of passed you 1000 times on my garrett on friday
Great show to drive round, did quite a few miles over the weekend. Coal burnt through really quickly and very smokey, gave out plenty of heat but used a lot more than usual.
I’m the Goped at 13:07 🤣👍
Awesome point of view!
I was on the 4 inch Burrell all weekend helping my friend with it
Really enjoyable show, seemed to burn a lot of coal over the weekend though.
@@bbazzab0178 yea it hurt very hot and quick but also very Ashley and clincery
@@williamsrailways Totally agree with that, felt like I was constantly feeding the coal in. Also a lot of soot and smoke, even clogged the bottom of the chimney up around the blast pipe.
@@bbazzab0178 yes that happened to us so many times
Absolutely gorgeous. I am a clock and watch maker in Maine and i love the steam era, i use a wilisco steam engine to run my watchmakers lathe. 👍
what a sweety! :-D
"Margaret! That strange kid is rolling around on his contraption again!" - random neighbour - Seriously though, that is an impressive machine you have there! Did you make it yourself?
Who did you get the drawings and castings from?

Looks familiar! 😂
Hey I’ve a couple of questions About how these engines move, fist of all how do you put them into drive as it were, does the wheel on the side always move, and how exactly do the gears work on them? Thank you
This engine has 3 speeds, each is engaged by sliding them along a shaft. In this video its in intermediate, the lever in the centre pointing up and to the right, the lever on the left behind the flywheel is high, the one on the right is low. If they point to the left those gears are not engaged, only one can be engaged at a time. The flywheel on the left is on the crankshaft, its used to smooth out the running, and a power take off via a flat belt if its used to drive something, if the engine is running the flywheel will always be turning as its locked to the crankshaft.
Lovely miniature engines you have, in such quality condition,I love your 3 inch Fowler showman's.Thats quite a rare engine in the 3 inch scale, I think it's about 3 others that I know of that type. Not many come up for sale.Kind regards Vic
Thank you, it was a lovely engine but not much fun to try and drive around or keep clean, unfortunately the Fowler Showmans was sold to pay for the McLaren
@@bbazzab0178 Hi , Thank you for your interesting reply. I like the 3 inch as it's easier to move manage, store , and admire rather than drive....was this to a steam dealer like legacy vehicles or private?, did you Fowler have a steel boiler or copper?, I assume it's to the Plastow drawings? sw had one which was finely scratch built , copper boiler,I saw that one at auction Dwts transport sale , and made an offer afterwards wards but then they went quiet and sold it to someone else unfortunately sw most likely?... I saw you engine when I search for Fowler on tube, so I was pleasantly surprised! Thanks Vic.
@@vicfrancis33 You are right about easier to admire than drive, mine was on display in the conservatory for the last few years before I sold it. The Fowler had a copper boiler to plastows design and sold privately. The Fowler was lovely to look at and great when it was generating but not much fun to drive, I always wanted a 4" scale McLaren so when the chance came up I had to take it. Its such an easy engine to drive with so much power, its more about keeping it reigned in that making it go.
If i would see this i would probably outrun it 😭
Ha typical whiye van man lol..
Seems to run well. I am looking for drawings to build one of these. Any ideas anyone?
How often do you need to stop and oil up?
I usually give it a good oil up before setting off, that's fine for the 20 minute run until getting back
looks good
Thank you for the vid. There is a steam rally in August near me, I can't wait to attend, possibly get a ride on one of those beauty's !
What show is near you in August?
And a rather very nice looking Sunbeam Alpine in the background methinks!!! 👍👍
nice
Nice meeting you today and your engine 👍
That my friend is a thing of beauty, you should be proud of yourself for building such a piece of art
Imagine peoples first ever impression of seeing these things
Awesome, it's nice to see a piece of history in moshion

Magnificent, thanks for taking us along with you.
Nice colour scheme
It runs beautifully and so quiet. It sounds like a sewing machine.
And these are faster than Ferrari's ? How ?
2jz swap that
How cool is that !
There are a few dealers here in the UK that sell them
Where do you buy one from?
That guy passing on the side not impressed at all xD
Thank you!!!
Awesome. This little steam tractor has character, it chugs away like it has something to prove.
"Lets put tiny steering wheel right next to flywheel, why the fuck not"
Awesome! I love that whirling whistle.
Where can one get such a doohickey?

Or have about 15.000 pounds in your bank account

Well, this looks like a ½ scale replica, so it's modern alright...but the technology is obviously very old
I love exposed mechanisms like that. Engineering is an art.
Wow. What a beautiful machine!
So fricken cool! Sometimes I wish I was living in the period! Kinda despise the current thing!
How’s it at parallel parking!! 😅😊
Beautiful!!!!
4 inch scale?
It's 1/3 full size or 4" on this model is the same as 12" on the full size
