You will find a lot of success at improving if you use your Hold Piece function. That changes the game from you only having one Next piece to always having two: your current piece, and the piece in the hold box. Holding a piece for even one drop will help you make a cleaner, more manageable board. Consider 12:30, for example, where you are forced to place an S in a bad position on the left side of the screen -- if you had held that S so that the following T could be placed, the T would fit nicely into the gap on the left, and then swapping the S back in lets you build cleanly instead of making holes. You might also find it useful to look up the Super Rotation System, which I think is used in this game. The Super Rotation System is the set of rules that govern piece rotation: why you can and cannot rotate pieces in specific situations. It's worth knowing about SRS even if you don't memorize it, because it will let you do "impossible" piece rotations like tucking Ss and Zs into places they don't belong, and understanding the basics of T-Spins, which are great at clearing lines and giving you more options. At 12:36, you could have rotated the L in the other direction to place it over top of the I, and then at 12:41, rotating in the other direction would have let you slide the J over the left side and into place.
