Lots of comments about "beating the train", but that's not what happened here. Trying to beat the train at a crossing is incredibly stupid, but here, the train's head end was already past the crossing - beating the train was not an issue. The car driver just *drove into a passing train.* Just let that sink in, it boggles the mind.

Could they not ring a bell or sound a horn or something so that people in cars are aware of the train? Maybe a barrier where the road crosses the railway?
