Use Sports Psychology To Get Ahead In Life
Use Sports Psychology To Get Ahead In Life
Dr. Eddie O'Connor, a certified mental performance consultant, discusses his journey into sports psychology and the importance of the mind in peak performance. He emphasizes the connection between thoughts, feelings, and actions, and the need to unify the mind and body. Dr. O'Connor provides practical guidance on how to shift focus and handle anxiety, suggesting strategies such as focusing on what's important now and treating anxiety like a fire alarm. He also explores the concept of sensitivity and insecurity, encouraging empathy and understanding towards oneself. Dr. Eddie O'Connor emphasizes the importance of context when it comes to negative and positive thinking. Negative thinking can be helpful in certain situations, such as pushing oneself to achieve a personal best, while positive thinking can be detrimental if it leads to arrogance and closed-mindedness. Overcoming obstacles is a key aspect of achieving excellence, and adversity is a natural part of the process. Dr. O'Connor encourages embracing all emotions, as they are a fundamental part of being human. Psychological flexibility, which includes staying present, clarifying values, and taking committed action, is crucial for peak performance. Men are urged to embrace their emotions and address them rather than suppress them.
Takeaways
Sports psychology is essential for peak performance as so much of it is mental.
The mind and body are interconnected, and thoughts and feelings influence physical reactions.
Anxiety can be addressed by leaning into it, understanding its purpose, and focusing on what's important now.
Sensitivity and insecurity are common, and it's important to have empathy and not trust every thought.
Acknowledging and nurturing the sensitive parts of oneself can lead to personal growth and improved performance. Negative thinking can be helpful in certain contexts, such as pushing oneself to achieve a personal best.
Positive thinking can be detrimental if it leads to arrogance and closed-mindedness.
Overcoming obstacles is a key aspect of achieving excellence.
Embracing all emotions, including the unpleasant ones, is important for psychological well-being.
Psychological flexibility, which includes staying present, clarifying values, and taking committed action, is crucial for peak performance.
Men are encouraged to embrace their emotions and address them rather than suppress them.

They are married and I was focused on furthering my education….. 4 years passed and I got these intense thoughts that I feel were out of no where and visions almost like something was messing with my spirit! As a spiritual person I prayed it off and cried! It’s like the thoughts would not leave me even though I wanted them too. The person is married.

Every time I was thinking of someone whether a friend, family member, romantic partner, they either called me or I called them and they said they were just thinking of me or vice versa. So I 💯% believe it’s yes. When it’s an ex partner, they could be thinking of you too but not reaching out because they’re either with someone else or trying to let go of you just as you are them.

I worked with and dated a woman many years ago. We started as friends, then lovers, then back to friends. I loved her the first time I saw her. When I got to know her, I thought she was the one. The relationship ended, when I realized that I loved her more than she really loved me. It wasn't meant to be. It took me years to finally get over that. I thought I did. Now 25+ years later I had a dream about her last week. I'd never dreamt about her before. Now I'm reliving the great memories and I can't seem to get her off my mind. I have an urge to contact her, but another urge is telling me to leave things alone...

Could you please forward this question to Bill.. I have many questions but the most important one to me is this: It was compelling that through all of your decades of experimentation, you and the people you trained can heal mice with cancer. However, you did not put almost any emphasis on healing cancer in humans. You said Ben healed people, but maybe he was a special gifted case. Are your students actually healing cancer in humans? I'm not asking about double-blind controlled studies, just antidotal feedback ex. testimonials of trainees of your technique curing people with cancer? I'm not trying to sound snooty but I am not interested in healing mice with cancer; only humans. Thank you so much!

I don't fully agree with this assessment, if you're constantly thinking of a person, we should explore this connection further in the physical realm, get to meet the person, learn more about them, and only then, can you make a logical assessment of the connection. I've been energetically pulled to a person for 12 years now. I don't know what to do. They are in a relationship and have a child. I don't want this energetic connection or any connection that cannot come to fruition in a physical world. It's hard to see any therapist over this when this is an altruistic situation. I know things about them they never told me physically, I've sensed them before walking into a room, I've heard their thoughts and emotions... I found out that I am not susceptible to hypnosis. Why would God or universe torture me like this. Either give me the person or help me move on. I was able to move on for a couple of years and then I'm triggered by their presents and end up obsessing... I don't know what to do.

There is nothing to understand: every healing it’s an act from God. This HIS energy one taps into in order to heal. Scientists can never understand or make that assumption. Why? It’s make them little, non important, the things they cannot digest and acsiomise, put into the theory, to prove. Now, I don’t want to belittle the work in the progress with bringing that energy to the masses. Great idea. If one can find attuned machinery that ca produce vibration of healing, frequency - this is great , because it’s a step closer to the future medicine. But praise the God for his energy! And admit that it’s HIM, only HIM responsible for regeneration, balancing and healing .

@@blossomyourawesome I mean it’s just not fair for you to be suffering this way, it’s not fair to be thinking heavily on someone and they’re not thinking about you. That’s not fair! It’s not fair not being able to focus or concentrate when you’re at work or even when you try to enjoy some time alone, or try to have a good time or spend time with friends and family while this person is just tormenting you day and night. Your life just becomes miserable. I mean I know what your about to say, “well stop thinking about them”, yeah easier said than done. It’s not fair if one person is suffering and the other is not. No! Both of them have to be going through conflict from within. I don’t know, my life is now pretty miserable and frustrating because of this, I mean I didn’t ask for any of this, it just happened. F*ck! Please tell me she’s thinking about me as well....I mean she smiles every time I’m around and she has even smiled at me up close and has made eye contact with me, but I could not resist falling slowly into the obsession in my head, little by little and slowly she began to creep herself and make her way into my head until I began to think more and more about her and found myself thinking about her non stop. Yeah, this is happening to me, but I am a guy. I've spoken to her once. She has a boyfriend and I am married, but there is a connection with her and just when I thought things were getting easier, I saw her again and our eyes locked for 2 seconds, then I had to look away to sort my child out. Now she's embedded into my soul. I want to talk to her again, but it's difficult because I only see her in an environment where other parents and children are, plus we're both in relationships and that has to be respected. That still doesn't change the fact that I feel like we have this connection even though we can't really talk to each other. I thought about messaging her as I have her number through a birthday invitation for my son, but I don't want to unsettle her or cause her to feel awkward. It's so powerful, though. Is she my twin flame? I don't know, but it's causing me to question my love for my current partner... She loves me and I make her happy, but do I love her and does she make me happy? It's crazy how a person can make you feel just by simple eye contact and body language... I've never felt this mesmerized by a person before. Even when she flicks her hair, or simply seeing her hair blow gently in the breeze captivates me, but I have to pretend I'm not looking, so I steal glances when I can.

  • @NoName-zb1gm

It would make sense if the feelings are so strong that she must be thinking of me. But I've felt she's behind me in our path to a relationship that maybe she wasn't thinking of me but our connection is strong that when she catches up to me she'll start thinking about me in the same way. But in the end I want more than her thinking about me so I'm still pushing for the relationship. Thinking of me means very little.

I don’t want to think about him anymore but he is all that I see, everyday. I fell in love the moment he looked at me but he’s not with me so I’m staying far away.

What I can tell you is while it may seem you will never get over this person. You will. I've been through this. It took me years, but I got to a point of indifference. It happened. And now when I look back I see how I was holding onto something that was not meant for me. There's something better out there for you. Trust me.

I got this deep connection with this worker in Cuba even if we didnt speak a word of eachother language but those few days I was there his eyes were only and constantly for me !! I never saw him before I left never say goodbuy and that made me very sad and since then I cant stop thinking about him and i am sure hes thinking if me every time a woman reminds him of me ! So i decided to be crazy and go back to Cuba !! I need to see him and hopefully he still works there cause my mind is 100% on him

What if you are not attracted to them, you don’t feel anything for them yet they are constantly on my mind? It’s got worse and I cannot get rid of him from my mind. It’s driving me crazy

    • @blossomyourawesome

It's not about attraction. It's about connection. That means you have some sort of connection to this person. It might not ever make sense. It's just what it is. It doesn't have to mean anything.

@@blossomyourawesome I’m Tired of it though. Is there anyway of stopping it? I’ve turned to my faith and prayer and left it in gods hands now. I know we are supposed to help ourselves in a practical way as well. I don’t want to contact him. I really think it’s me not him. He’s moved on and getting on with his life while I’m stuck in this limbo, non mover phase.

@@blossomyourawesome can I add it’s weird! I’ve never experienced this. I’ve put it down to loneliness, boredom perhaps. Someone I met while young. A teenage crush. Only it’s nothing now. No feeling for him. He wasn’t a nice person then. I’ve got no intention of revisiting that aspect of my life /past again. Just wish he’d go away and leave my thoughts 😂🤪
