Kermit's got a new one with a cucumber. Look it up.
I enjoy the thin tires on mine, i just got an old school fuji captiva beach cruiser and i changed the tires thin because the other ones were rotted out,
I recently came by a step through cruiser after being sidelined with some pretty severe health issues. Mine ended up being a Priority belt drive with a 7 speed internal Nexus gear set. Extremely light for a cruiser and fairly high tech as cruisers go, but what fun. Thanks for this video my friend. I am all about the very low maintenance required for these bikes and the simplicity/fun that these rides provide. Full fender set, internal gears, coaster brake and a rust/grime proof belt. What's not to love about these simple machines? Let the 20mph road bike guys sneer. These bikes are too much fun to pass up.
"10 speed..." You mean road bike...
So helpful and easy to understand!
I agree with you ,not everybody needs titanium carbon fibre high tech crap on $7,000 bicycle
What if the Allen bolt is too tight, it won’t budge with the Allen key
@@charlottegray5218 I would say try to use some WD-40 to help loosen it. Make absolutely sure the Allen wrench is very tight as you don't want to round it. Finally, try to slip something like a metal tube over the long end of the Allen handle This will give you more leverage to crank on it, as sometimes it's hard to get the proper leverage with just your hand on the smaller wrenches
Thanks 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙😮😮😮😮
That’s really cool to have a meet and greet character that could talk
why is it that only two companies make a cruiser bike with more than Seven speeds how can you upgrade to higher gears like 12 or more speeds for hills ?
The shimano nexus 7 has a gear range of 245% To get 12 useable gears you need to go to a 21 speed drive train with 3 front rings and 7 in the back. Thats 2 sprockets, 2 shifters, at least 9 duplicate gears, and a heckofa lot more maintenance to squeeze just a little more mechanical advantage. With a nominal flat endurance cruising speed of 17mph the lowest gear on a 7 speed hub would get you a 7mph climb at the same cadence. And down to about 5mph at a minimal climbing cadence of 60 rpm. That translates to about a 7% grade, which is quite a steep hill. In a standard 21 speed given a nominal crushing speed of 17mph you’d be able to climb a 9% grade in granny gear with the same parameters. I don’t think that difference is worth it to most riders of beach cruisers who are not regularly tackling a a hill that big.
Just crashed my bike here at ucsb thanks to a messed up handle bar and got a big Battlescar! Hoping this works!
Whatever handlebars you settle on, or adjustments you make.. Make sure that those handlebars don't move once they're tightened. Stand above them and really put your weight down on them as you're standing over the bike to make sure they don't move at all. Good luck!
This was easy peasy. Thank you!!!
Hilarious!
i really really really wanna go some day its my dream
Looks like its going to re-open any day now! I was just in CO. but it hadn't opened yet. Next time I go I'll hit it up.
good job i loved it
Bought an old huffy and I'm trying to raise the handlebars. I use the Allen wrench but I could not get it to move. Can you tell me what size Allen wrench you use and is this universal
It can be different for every bike. But.. they sell a tool at home depot or Lowes that has multiple sizes of allen wrenches that fold out of the tool.
@@theretrodad8716 I figured it out thank you
This was great! Great instructions. Thanks!😊
how hard is it to upgrade the gearing on a beech cruiser and to have better brakes
The easiest way to do both of those things would be to change the wheels. You could get an in internally geared rear hub like a nexus with a disc brake and a front hub with a disc brake. But that would cost more than the bike new. Best thing to do is just find one with a nexus 3 or nexus 7 which include a rear coaster brake, and fit a front V brake to it. That’s what I did. I got a trek cruiser with a Shimano nexus hub and slapped a front rim brake on it. I have one granny gear, one gear for moderate hills, and one for flats/downhill. And the coaster brake is all I need 95% of the time. The front brake is just peace of mind really.
Tanus armor inserts can help
I bought a beach cruiser in 2018 when I got my first job. Still have it at 33. These are great bikes! Even though mine was in storage for 10 years it only needed some air in the tires and some oil. Very low maintenence, highly recommend this style of bike to anyone looking for a low-maintenance bike that's fun to ride.
I just got a bike back in February to start riding with my daughter to help her lose some weight she wants off. I got a Kent Sea Change beach cruiser because of the seat and higher handle bars plus I like the fenders
The only issue I have with my cruisers is pedaling up hills lol. Single speeds are a true workout!
I haven't used a bike regularly since high school (34 now) and I just bought one of these yesterday at Walmart, a Kent Seachange. They had it marked down to $98, and this one had no loose, crooked, or rusted parts. My car is now inoperable and will cost at least a couple grand to fix with all that's broken in it, so this was my only way to get around besides walking. I like the aesthetics of it more than mountain bikes, it's faster than walking, traveling at night is now more interesting, and yesterday I was forced to explore places I've never been before to find more bike friendly routes to the places I need to go. Riding through a historic district was beautiful. I already almost don't want a car again.
I treated myself to a 26" Kent beach cruiser. I love it. Just came in after a 2 mile ride and it was great.
so nice bikes but they only come in single and a max of seven speed and no granny gear for climbing hills
I grew up in Colorado and used to ride my one speeds up many a hill. I was in much better shape back then of course. But.. if I wanted to climb a hill, I'd simply peddle faster or stand up to pedal, as did most everyone back in those days. Much simpler times.
Need ape hangers
I'm gettin a beach cruiser next year .I like them bikes..I'm 69 years old and I just love to ride..thank u for this video
No problem! You're going to love it!
I tighten my goose neck all the way but it still moves please help
Go to Amazon and buy a shim for it. This will fix it.. amzn.to/3DBaujw
@@theretrodad8716 no it's not that it's like I stand in front of my front tire and I can still move my handle bars left and right when they should be tight with the front tire
@Steven Miller Oh. If it's tightened all the way and it's still loose, you need a larger sized gooseneck. The best thing to do is to stop by a bike shop that also works on older bikes to see if they can fit another gooseneck. It shouldn't be expensive at all. They may even have a used one that would work perfectly.
New to Florida. Love bugs came out in the beginning of spring and now a second round at the end of summer. They are out in abundance.
Yes. Some years are TERRIBLE. This year hasn't been too bad (so far) 😆
Today me and my friend in school we saw these love bugs and we were screaming and running from them!😭🙏🏻💁🏻♂️💕
Yes! It's like they want to jump on you!
Law enforcement might mistaken that for a real weapon. I'm not trying to get shot 😂
Cool!
Uh… one by one? There are hundreds out here
Haha. I've taken out 6+ at once in a group. But yeah.. slow way to do it. 😅
Bikes have changed. My 25 year old Electra beach cruiser has an aluminum frame, steel fork, cantilever brakes, 7 speed rear sprocket for hills so less zig zagging or walking up cliff trails and roads from beach. Some new beach cruisers now have safer disc brakes and even have electricpower assist motors to get up hills from the beach. Trek bought out Electra and has done well with the Electra bike's innovation. Yesterday I got a new chain, new wide alloy handlebar, and leather designer grips to replace salt rusted worn sun damaged parts. New weight limits on Trek bicycles. 275lbs for most drop handlebar and 300lb for flatbar and flat foot bikes. For me the safest upright bikes for most surfaces such as old overgrown broken roadways around islands, shipyards, bases, rail tracks, rocky or hardpack dirt fireroads, gravel, weeds, expanded metal bridges would be those that have general purpose gravel tires about 40mm width. Also for safety and handling disc brakes for hills, loose or uneven surfaces. The best all around bike for hills, islands, trails most bad surfaces around my home would be the drop handlebar gravel bike Trek Checkpoint also the safest. And the flatbar gravel bike Trek FX Sport. Both bikes have upright riding position with disc brakes and cushy stable 700x40mm tires. And a more comfortable narrow long distance saddle compared to my soft leather spring cruiser seat. I am disabled unable to walk much. My flat foot beach cruiser has wide over 2" tires for both road and dirt. Perhaps best to test ride bikes on bumpy hilly roads. I will test an Electra single speed disc brake cruiser when local shops have it in stock.
What if it’s the bolt and it’s Allen wrench and at its tightest it still loose?
If the handle bars are still loose after a full tighten.. you may need to add a handlebar shim. They sell those on Amazon for pretty cheap.. or a bike shop could add one for you.
What do I do I stripped the bolt?
I would go to a hardware store or auto parts store and see what kinds of tools they have to remove stripped bolts. You might even be able to find them on Amazon pretty easy.
Just bought a Huffy Nel Lusso cruiser and yes, ILOVE IT! Had to check here to see how to make some adjustments. Thanks for the videos! Cruise on!
Thank you! You were super helpful!
I got 1979 schwinn beach cruiser and I love it
I hate these things
Thankyou for making this. I have a cruiser bike that had the bars at the right height for me, so I never bothered trying to adjust them. I might be selling it, and when I unscrewed the top bolt to see if I would easily be able to adjust it for the next person, I still couldn't push anything down. Figured I might have to take the fork apart or something strange, but never thought of a rubber hammer to shake it loose.
Yeah.. water and mud can seize them up a bit.
The ear design itself was stolen from an Etsy creator
id say a soon to be 62 years old i'k quite a bit older than you are brother. hopefully those bikes can handle a 250 pounder like myself. my back is ate up with arthritus so impact exercise like speed walking or running is outta the question for me at the moment so i'm gonna buy myself a new bike and wanted something less complicated without alot of speeds and gears that can go wrong. i saw on the walmart site some beach cruisers in the $100-$150 range, they are 26 inchers, hopefully i can find something a little bigger than that
I was 265 at the time this video was shot.. so yeah.. cruisers are definitely great for big guys! Wal Mart Cruisers are good entry bikes.. but may need a few upgrades to get more life out of them like tires, pedals, etc. If you're handy.. its no problem at all.
Mine came loose while riding
Love the old beach cruisers. Have two. One is an old Schwinn Heavy Duty and the other is an old Schwinn beach cruiser. Thanks for the video.
The lack of a handlebar brake scares me
what kind of handle is this?
Wide Beach Cruiser Handlebars. Some call them Half Moon Handlebars as well. Plenty available on ebay!
My husband gave me a beach cruiser for Christmas, no matter how he tightens the handle bars they keep falling and I keep smashing my knuckles. Should we contact Schwinn?
You can get little handlebar shims to place between the handlebars and gooseneck which will fix it right up. Check ebay and Amazon.
Lol i dont know how to ride a bike but i won one from my elementary school. Im about to learn how to ride mines(cuz its a cruiser)
They are super easy to learn on! Have Fun!
