Self reliance can be challenging - especially when it seems everything is against you. There are some days I just want to quit. -and I do (for the day! LOL). BUT, we feel that what we are doing is really important for our family - being as self-sufficient as possible - and so we keep on keeping on. I thought some of you would get a kick out of this.

    Ma’am, you have the most beautiful accent I’ve ever heard. I spend a lot of time down south, and the only time I’ve ever heard something similar was in Macon, GA, and only a few people talk like that. If you don’t mind me asking, where’d you grow up, and how do I learn how to talk like that? Here in Arkansas we just mumble really quickly in hushed tones interspersed with exclamations of with “c’mon” and whooty who. Gawk-lee, I shore wish I was born with the “smooth” southern accent. Sincerely, an accent enthusiast and aspiring cunning linguist.

      Thanks for the compliment! Tennessee gal here. If you’re in Arkansas, you’ve probably heard plenty of similar accents. If you don’t have it already, I wouldn’t try to pick up a southern accent now. True southerners can pick out a fake southern accent right away. I know the movie stars probably pat each other on the back and think they did a great job mimicking (mocking) us, but…no.

    So what do you set your sf at? Also how is the lather?

    • @triplecreekfarm2007
      @triplecreekfarm2007 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Angela. What is sf? Lather is good, but more coconut oil would increase the bubbles.

    How are the lather and bubbles?

    • @triplecreekfarm2007

      Hi, Angela. The suds are great. If you are interested in tons of bubbles, you could increase the amount of coconut oil. Just be sure to run your recipe through a lye calculator like the one on brambleberry.com.

    Can you leave out the fragrance and keep the rest of the recipe the same?

    • @casiash
      @casiash 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Quigley yes but it wont smell like honey, fragances are designed to survive saponification while scents from natural additives fade out

    If you dip the spoon in oil before mesuring the honey, it will just glide out.

    thanks for the video cool soap. please at what temperature did you mix the lye water and the oil together, and how many pounds is this soap and how do one arrive at the measurement to use?

    Great tutorial. Why is the method described as cold when in fact heat is applied to the oils and fats?

    • @triplecreekfarm2007
      @triplecreekfarm2007 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your comment. There is actually a different soap making process called hot process - it is where you actually cook the batch of soap over heat on the stove (or in a crockpot). I have not tried this method of soapmaking yet. For this honey soap, I had to melt some of the hard butters (mango butter, cocoa butter, etc.) so they would fully incorporate into the soap mixture and react to the lye properly.

      Thank you Doreen a! I got it at Wal-Mart. There isn't a label on it and I've thrown the box away, so I don't know the brand.

    Where did you find your molds?

    • @triplecreekfarm2007
      @triplecreekfarm2007 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry to reply so late. I didn't get a notification that I had a message. The soap molds came from brambleberry (link in the description). Thank you for watching!

    I gave up on plastic molds. For curiosity I left soap in one mold to see how long before it releases. Its been in there for nearly a year and still sticks like glue. Silicone molds or box molds with parchment paper/plastic bag as a liner works for me. Soap is out of the mold in 24 hours and gives the curing process that extra time.

      The first time I used them was super frustrating. Putting the soap in the freezer before unmolding made all the difference. Thanks for watching!

    Zpstewart, you can use a fragrance calculator like the one on www.brambleberry.com.

    Thank you, this made things much easier to understand than just reading a recipe. Just a tip, use raw honey to gain the full benefit of the honey :)
