Can America make a reliable car that will at least last 100,000 miles again?

The Dart,when maintained regularly is a pretty reliable car. But alas, manufacturers can't build a fwd transmission that will last 100,000 miles..min was done at 72,000.. Cars today are only good till the Warranty ends....

Sounds like a lot of force on some small parts. I hope they can make practical application of this.

I own many different car brand company over the years, i had volvo, vw, honda, toyota, mazda, dodge, pontiac, subaru. The one i hated most to do repair on was the sunfire, i never bought another gm after that. I had 3 vw i loved them but those are not made to keep long run, cheap plastic parts always break. I miss my old civic 1996 hatchback those where light and economical easy to work on, i had a type R 2018 was fun but expensive to maintain. I had 2 volvo one 850 turbo 1994 and one 850R 1996 but turbo with over 300k km. i had a Outback 2004 with a H6 3.0L damn this thing was a tank, but maintenance was always there, spend more then the car in repair, all but the engine and transmission.

When was the last time you ever saw a tenured Land Rover on a US road? Good reason - they don’t last!!!

Why? Buy a much more efficient EV and only have ONE ditch the ancient tech as its set to disappear in the next 5 years 😂

The only CVT I would ever consider is the one on a Toyota Prius or Honda Hybrid.

Does these little cars really need 6 and 9 speeds seems overkill

Most of these cars are fiats or a fiat platform, Dart and 200 are just rebadged Alfa Romeos and mi pizzanos don’t have the brain power to build a decent car or do much of anything else for that matter.

I hate the fact that people are complaining about infotainment being outdated, or not being there. Infotainment does NOT belong in a car. Give us back the buttons!!!

Stellantis cars are sh*t - many in this list (5 I think) are Stellantis brands.

The Jeep Compass is a piece of crap made in Melfi, Italy. It contains a ton of off the shelf components shared with the Fiat 600. The Jeep Renegade shares most of it's drivetrain with the equally crappy Fiat 500x.

The VW Atlas is way worse than the Tiguan. Way more issues and a much cheaper looking interior. It also cost ten grand more for no good reason.

Nissan,Jeep,Fiat and Dodge are all owned by Salantis a compant not know for quaity/reliability. Land Rover are notthing more than money pits,if your retired you'll love LR as you'll be spending a lot of your retirement at the dealership getting it fixed. One you tuber who reviews car bought a brand new LR and it was broken before it left the lot,IIRC it had aome peoblems with its electronics and the dealership couldn't fix it they had to have a computer tech to come and fix the problem wait time for tech unknown.

A Tesla's are overpriced junk!

Dodge Dart and Nissan Maxima can make it to 200,000 plus miles, but you really have to be aggressive with maintenance and drive like a grandma. They still deserve to be on this list. The manufacturers recommended maintenance is insufficient, and you shouldn't have to baby it.

I think this video is exaggerating the bad reliability of the Cruze for clicks. Our 18' has never gave us any issues so far at 70k miles, then again we do regular maintenance on it, like one should.....

In conclusion all cars are trash, only buy a few brands. Toyota non pickup and Non boost Mazda.

No issues with my Audi 3.0l. TDI , 150.000 miles on it. I get it fluid serviced every 20K.

Mitsubishi should be on that list.

I bought a new Dart Limited in 2015 with the 2.4 liter engine that was 100% reliable and only required oil changes and filters up to about 85000 miles. Mostly city driving-40% highway; 60 surface streets and it never even needed front brake pads or even a lightbulb!!! The main problem with that car is that “Dodge” offered too many engine choices (3) that confused the marketplace. All of the other engine choices were junk and THAT is what ultimately killed the car… a family member totaled it and they were not injured! At the time, the LIMITED and the GT with the 2.4 were reliable, somewhat fun cars!

You missed the king. Mitsubishi. Kia 😂. My 2009 outlander is still running 160,000 miles on it. I'd never buy South Korea Kia crap.

The older Altimas were good cars and sold like hotcakes. Shitty engineering and cutting costs cut their own sales down to a fraction of what it was. Same with Jeep. Older inline 6 cylinder Cherokee engines lasted a half million miles easily with decent maintenance. Now, power plants are garbage. Get your act together, or go out of business

A few years ago, I saw a lady with the Dart and she said that after 16000 miles, she said the whole engine was replaced by dodge because it just quit and she was going to trade it in asap

I'm not surprised by any of these cars, they are all equipped with planned obsolescence

The Cruze is just the same thing as the Malibu, just another name

I don't know about the Fiat 500L but the video show at one point a picture of the 500 - different car. The 500 model in the gas version seems to be a pretty good thing. Which I think explains why there are lots of them on the road.

Jeep went downhill when the Italians controlled the company. They lost their way with off shelf Fiat parts and cars made in Europe.. Sad.

Chrysler is the worst American car. Fiat has always sucked. And British car have all been garbage. Also don’t get a tiny engine in a bigger car because it needs to work very hard to move the car along. This means repairs and less then 109,009 miles.

I did a drain and fill on my 2015 Honda Civic CVT at 55K miles. I was surpised to see that the fluid looked brand new. Glad I did it anyway. I did a second drain and fill at 60K so I feel good that it will last.

Really? I mean, were there ANY of these where you went "wow, I wouldn't have expected THAT to be here?" Every, single, one (when revealed), I just went "well, yeah ... of course that is on here". Would never have considered any of these as something to own.

I drove a Chrysler 200 as a loaner for a few days. It was a beautiful car, and I do remember liking the interior a lot actually. The steering was sloppy, and that 4 cylinder transmission combo was horrible too. The 200 looked like a poor man’s Audi (I mean that as a compliment), but driving dynamics were terrible.
