(a + c)^4 is common to both terms, so it goes out the front. So we get (a + c)^4(1 +(a + C)) Expand to check… Hope this helps.

The highest common factor goes out front. Inside the bracket we need (a+c) so that, when we expand the expression the power goes up 1. The power becomes a 5. Then we ask “what do I need to multiply the front bracket by to get the second term? We only need to multiply by 1, because the whole of the second term went out the front. So to get (a+c)^4, we only need to multiply by one to get the second term when expanding. You know you have factorised correctly if you can expand the brackets again to create the original terms from the question. Sorry if this doesn’t make sense!
