This offense is going to be a punishing run based offense, whose greatest strength is offensive line experience. Each of the running backs displayed shared skills of patience, balance and fearless football intelligence, but we saw downhill, side to side edge speed... I think that is the story. The passing? What a great way for Jelani to into the saddle than not to pressurize the throwing game. Defensively, they are going to have depend on the secondary so the linebackers can jam the line more to stop the slants, but it reminds me of the "bend don't break" idea of keeping teams out of the red zone. Going to be fun watching this develop. San Diego State is no slouch team. They disintegrated over injuries last year.... but their team culture has grown. Speaking if which, The Beavs are confident and having fun!

A win is a win, but considering this is the _one_ game in their schedule that was supposed to be a romp over a greatly inferior opponent the fact that it was a tight game until the third quarter is cause for concern.

A win but disappointing. Defense was loose and sloppy, offense was all run no passing. Id give it a C grade

San Diego State Aztecs had a great day of practice with Texas A&M Commerce Lions 45 - 14. Beavers could go 2-0. Tougher than today. Doable.

A couple thoughts…. Blame OSU/WSU admins for not accepting the TV deal, not the 4 teams that left because of it. The Idaho state game to me is still going to be an evaluation of the QB’s as a whole. If McCoy isn’t impressive we could maybe see a different QB start against San Diego state. McCoy’s strength is scrambling and making nothing plays into something and the only way to truly see that is in a live game and not in fall camp where the pass rushers aren’t allowed to touch the QB

Guys, I like the podcast and appreciate the reporting you all do. But you aren’t coaches and your eyes and what you saw is kind of irrelevant because you don’t see it like a coach and you don’t know how to evaluate a QB position battle or what the coaches are looking for when they are evaluating that position or any position for that matter.

He has the talent, confidence, and swagger to succeed. I’ll be curious to see how it goes.

It's gonna be Ben at QB, there's not really another choice. It's a new system, no one in that room is going to look good. It's a new route tree, new option routes, the blocking scheme is different creating different throwing windows, and the timing is going to be different. It takes time to settle in, and what they are being asked to do is more difficult than it seems. Ben is the guy, because he's the most fundamentally sound and has the highest football IQ. He's the safest bet, because when things go south, it's sound fundamentals that stabilize things. Hero ball will do us no favors at all in our current situation, and that's what more athletic QBs fall back on when things go sideways.

No offense to BG but he should not be the guy IMO. It's a little concerning, with this type of offense (RPO/Spread Option), none of these guys separated themselves at the QB position. This offense does not need huge arm talent! With that receiver room, they should be able create YAC (yards after catch) with all of the short throws. It's about reading and executing (quickly). Bubble, slant, hitch, in, arrow and outs/speed cuts, are a majority of the routes in these types of offenses. These routes are all within 10 yard throws. So where are the huge misses? Are they only missing on deep/intermediate balls? Are they getting the ball out late in the short game? Sailing the ball? Need more details. It's kinda baffling that they are all struggling so badly! The saving grace: The running game! Those top 2 guys are studs. It should loosen up the defense and make some of those windows easier to hit?! Always hope for the best! Go Beavs!

I think if all things are fairly equal, put the kid in that can break the game with his legs and will have the most growth. Barri will be so much better by the end of the season, especially with in game experience. I feel like the other guys(ben in particular) dont have as much room for improvement.
