    How you know the narrator is winging it, the first kata being demonstrated is not Mae. It’s Yaegaki Ura (Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu) also known as Yaktai Inyoshintai (Muso Shinden Ryu). In no way could that be confused with Mae by someone familiar with Iaido.

    going around comparing martial arts is the same as comparing bananas to apple. it is simple though, whoever finds iaido not so exciting, do and do some Kendo, do some Kenjitsu. iaido is the art of drawing the Iaito(sword) and not the art of the ´badass´. There s no much to diccuss, when we accept and respect.

    I have come up with different ideas for the missing kata based on thinking of their names as Zen Questions. Thanks for giving these variations which I see as inferior. The problem with Oikake here is the same can be construed as was a associated with Torabashira, so should that kata be deleted too? Ryoshi Hikizure here on the other hand can be studied as a simple doublet, an assistant front and right or fantasy variation of a standing shohatto waza. Resolving this mystery is therefore disappointing to say the least, although these are not the only kata presented here that I disapprove of, with all due respect to this elder!

  • @MicPowell
    @MicPowell 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    These interpretations would make all of Chuden Ryu, novelty and fantasy kata, not even up to the standards of gymnastic kata, never mind practical theory and praxis!

      +Tongsen Su Yes... The original style used much longer sword lengths than the modern times. There are 2 recognized branches of muso hayashizaki ryu still remaining. One of them performs regularly with nodachi and tachi. The tachi demonstration is often held in armor wear though.

      I saw you comment on other videos of this series. The level of your comments is quite low. Ask yourself: "What argument would refute my comment and would lead me to accept that I am wrong?" Have you asked yourself that? Spend some time thinking about that. Come up with a meaningful answer for yourself and be at peace before offering an opinion.

    Seitei Iaido is not, first and foremost, meant for practical purposes. Whatever, you argue, my friend, it is pointless. Zen, technique, control, aesthetics, and common grounds from which many other Japanese swordsmans of other styles can relate to one another - these are the reason why Seitei is practiced. And, for kendo, seitei was created in order to give kendoka a feel for a more traditional and less sport competitive sword art. So yes, Seitei is definitely meant to enhance the Kendo experience.

  • @MicPowell

    Seated katas are not jus some ritual, a true practitioner has greater scope & mobility over an average room than someone standing, yet these demonstrations are like a frog sitting on a Lilly pad waiting for flies. Also his waza are too stiff and reflect choreography not true kata or even gymnastic kata. Lastly he shows no understanding of practical bunki!

      me cool: Your joking right, stick an iPad somewhere, I sold my digital camera, and with kindergarten material I'm suppose to make a qualitative and respectful video of something I consider so important, the old saying is that if you saw a starving samurai and offered him a meal he would pull out a toothpick put it in his mouth and say no thank you with a smile, false pride perhaps but there is a certain honor in such ways!

    • @mecool9023
      @mecool9023 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Powell joking? No of course not. Look, most of the old Iai videos here are not in good quality. And some of it still in black and white. Thousands of people watch it anyway. What so disrespect about it? Please make one for me. I'm dying to see how good this Mike powel who criticized saying this 9 dan Hanshi movements looks just like a frog. I'm assuming that you are at the same level as Hayashizaki Jinsuke or Itto Ittosai or Yagyu Munenori.
