People who've followed me for a while will already be aware that when it's Pancake Day in England's West Midlands that means it's Mardi Gras in New Orleans & on the Pistol Pete TH-cam channel. In celebration I recorded my version of Professor Longhair's 1949 definitive carnival anthem Mardi Gras In New Orleans. So go on, leave the Jif Lemon in the cupboard tonight, mix yourself a Hurricane, coo...

Stone Fox Chase (Area Code 615 cover) | Pistol Pete Wearn

Sunday Morning Blues #89 Stone Fox Chase by Area Code 615 It's been a while since I did any harmonica and I thought some was well overdue. The "Fox Chase" is a rite of passage for harmonica players and Area Code 615's psychedelic take on one (harmonica played by Charlie McCoy) was used as the theme to the Old Grey Whistle test for years and years. With my version, I tried to combine the melody ...

Sunday Morning Blues #88 Stop Breaking Down by Robert Johnson I was inspired to tackle some Robert Johnson on the 12 string by an afternoon rediscovering an old Robert Lockwood Jr album which used to be a favourite of mine about 20 years back. Sunday Morning Blues #85 You Ain't Goin' Nowhere by Bob Dylan, also covered by The Byrds This is a favourite Bob Dylan song of mine - I fondly remember my Dad playing it during my youth, and given the association with the Byrds, I thought it would be fun to give it a go on the 12-string. A Beginner's Guide To Acoustic Blues: The Shuffle This is a new series of guitar lessons where I cram as much information as I can about a key concept of acoustic blues playing into around 5 minutes as an introduction to guitarists of all levels who want to learn more about blues playing. This week we tackle the classic shuffle rhythm, a groove that provides the backbone to many blues songs. We...

Yay - nicely done, Pete!
Finally! 😂
I'd like to apologise for all the sleep you've been losing because the issue of whether I choose not to record songs because I can't clear copyright was unresolved!
It was more the concern about songs you’d not recorded due to linguistic ineptitude… I’m sure there must be some mandarin blues 😀 I shall rest easy tonight, PP
Great song - excellent video, too. Really enjoying the whole EP!
@@GhostontheMoor Cheers Nigel, I'm very pleased with how it has come out

@@HugoBruno-g9p Awesome, thanks so much ☺️
Love it, Pete, that's really impressive!
Thank you - it's a lot less ambitious than some of the stuff you've done!
Don't put a capo on Rock Island line, you don't even know the song all you're doing is talking
This was just a quick lesson on how to play my arrangement of Rock Island Line which you can find here: th-cam.com/video/dDdT4ySvreg/w-d-xo.htmlsi=aOXnEwqK9LYStD5G . It's something people told me they would like when I was doing weekly uploads of cover songs, but the great thing about old blues songs is there are lots of different versions out there, so if you don't like my arrangement you could always learn a different one, or write your own 🙂
nice delivery ! loving it
Thank you - I'm very glad you enjoyed it :)
Wow... That brings a whole new dimension to an old familiar song!
I think it's the blues genre's propensity for euphemisms that means even the most innocent of phrases start to sound a little risqué when you stick them in a 12 bar 😂
@@pistolpetewearn Yes! Exactly. 🤣
It was your party piece when you were about 4 years old.
And for a brief period of my early thirties it would seem!
Please do a tutorial ❤ Especially from your solo
Sure thing - for which song?
@@pistolpetewearn roll the old chariot ☺️
@@mescalito2178 Cool, I'll try and find some time. It's been a few years but I don't remember it being anything overly tricky - the vamp is just Am & G with a couple of hammer-ons (the capo puts it in Cm) and the instrumental section was largely just a question of what I could reach with my little finger while I played those chords.
Really, really good analysis and interpretation of a classic song. Thanks for the tabs as well. Never was satisfied with the two chords approach. Thanks again.
Thanks so much - really glad you found it useful :)
Beautiful video concept
Excellent cover man.
Cheers! Thanks for taking the time to have a listen :)
Yes.. nothing to complicated haha. Good stuff though
Thank you. Much appreciated.
No problem - I hope it was useful 🙂

Dude ! This rocks !
Thank you! Very glad you enjoyed it :)
Great version!
A disjointed lesson, needs to be put together and presented with more flow and confidence. Comes across as though you are unsure.
Thank you for watching. I'm sorry you didn't find it useful.
Great stuff.
Lovely stuff, PP 😀
Thank you. I'm not sure I'd use the word "lovely" about a song with a grisly murder at the end though!

I like to think I can make up for what I lack in finesse with sheer consistency 😉
Loved this when I a kid (over 60 years ago), along with Freight Train and The Hokey Pokey..
Funnily enough Freight Train is on my current to-do list!
@@pistolpetewearn Great stuff Pete, I listened to the Peter, Paul and Mary version as a kid, but also love the Elizabeth Cotton one. As I had not heard of a Freight Train, growing up in Australia, I mistakenly sang, and, called the song "Faye Train" for many years. I have attempted to subscribe to you on TH-cam but, have been unable to sign in for many years? They keep telling me my email address is already in use and, after 2 emails and 1 text with a verification code this evening, still no joy. Love all of your music Pete and, look forward to listening to your version of Freight (Faye) Train soon.
Not familiar with this song but I like it.. ❤

Nice job! Excellent to hear a little fiddle playing! We are based in Tulsa, Oklahoma and have a lot of fiddle players out this here way! 👏
Thank you. We have a few fiddle players around here, but most of them focus on British folk music. I really like the sound of the instrument on Blues & Americana though - so all credit to Olly for jumping in on my stuff.
Nice job! 👏
