Turbo it
It's crossed my mind already lol. Thanks for watching!
I have a lt250r 86 with lots of parts.
How free is it, lol? I always wanted to put a 500 motor in a 250 frame.
Thank you for the video! I need to replace the speedometer on my 65, so this has been helpful. 😊
Glad to hear it helped someone! Thanks for watching!
My guy keep the motor and tranny in it run it like it is and put a supercharger on it
Hey Todd That's a long block from Automotive Supply has between 30 and 40k on it .
Should make a good turbo motor in something!
I don't see your name on the shit list?
Your name is going to be on it once I dig into that 6 speed Richmond.
tough to tell by audio, but the noise I think your referring to is the Charge air going back into the other side of turbine, you'll need to have a blow-off valve or recirculation valve to prevent damage to turbo from the charged air slamming back into backside of Turbo once the throttle plate shuts. I believe I used a Rockauto VW jetta vacuum recirc valve and just poked it into the charge pipe, I can check later what year I have it from. Awesome work on this, glad to see someone doing the Same project I had in mind!
I think your exactly right. I've put blow off valve with a 5lb spring on it now since this video went out. However currently at idle, it pulls so much vacuum the blow off valve opens up, therefore it's not pulling air though the MAF. For whatever reason, if this motor doesn't see air through the MAF it will not idle at all! Currently I just unhooked the vacuum line and relying on the boost to open the spring. Thanks for watching, interested to hear more about your project!
I have the very same vehicle and install almost, looks great! Question on fuel regulator, I haven't hoooked mine up yet, but could you not have used the rubber line coming off Stock regulator and plugged into the " IN" on the regulator (side of regulator) and than attached bottom nipple to return hose?
If I understand what you're saying correctly, I'm not sure if that would work properly or not. If what you're saying is having 2 regulators in line, you would not be able to get MORE pressure than whatever the stock regulator is set at. Honestly, I probably didn't need to replace the regulator at all, but I wanted full control over the fuel pressure. Thanks for watching, good luck with your project!
The 1/2 inch Allen bolt is factory on the driver side of the motor (I’m a GM tech) lifters go on them all the time and if the lifter goes so does the came
Luckily I plan on getting rid of all that garbage. Thanks for watching!
What’s the steering box ratio
I am not 100% sure, but from what I read on the interwebs it should be a 12.7:1 ratio. Thanks for watching!
Bro I laughed so much because this is me working on stuff lol and I know way less than you. Thank you man I hope you have a great day.
Glad you got some entertainment out of my struggles. I don’t claim to know much of anything, but it is a good feeling to watch someone you feel knows more than you fight just like you do. Thanks for watching!
What did you end up doing with it?
Just sitting on an engine stand loosely together. I plan on putting a cam in it to delete the DOD and variable valve timing. Most likely going to be an expensive build, so whatever it goes in has to be worth the money. Thanks for watching!
Do you know if this will also work with my 2021 model 3 ?
I don’t see why not, but I am not aware if any changes were made. My Tesla is a 2018 model. Hopefully you’re able to get it figured out. Thanks for watching!
@@CenterValleyCustomsi did end up putting a model 3 2018 display in my 2021 model 3. It worked ! Got the screen for just under $200 on eBay as well. Cheers ! Thanks for replying
Thank you. Just got my rocker panels…This is so helpful!
Glad it helped!
Which model year is your model 3? Cos mine just cracked and I’m not sure if I can do the repair without buying their software
Mine is a 2018 model. I’m not sure if they’ve changed anything with the how the displays function. Hopefully you can get it fixed cheaper than getting it front Tesla.
Thanks for the video, was checking on if easy off would take paint off a jet ski that the former owner painted words on
I’d heard about using it many times before, but never actually tried it. Finally just went for it. Hopefully it worked for you. Thanks for watching!
I did call a friend of mine who is a professional autobody guy, he suggested easy off, it did work perfectly
I get it, every time my wife leaves i worry about starving and running out of socks
Lol, glad to hear I’m not the only one! Thanks for watching!
I searched the internet for a video like this and am Really pleased to find the exact problem solving seeing this one! Happy person now. I have a 2004 Chevy tracker automatic with 4wd .. it’s a great car and only problems are Breaks and rust and Also needing a new exhaust … I am Hoping to find someone to do it for Me who needs some extra holiday cash… I am in Massachusetts right on the water so salt and snow are horrible here…
Yes, the Wisconsin winter salt destroys vehicles as well, luckily we don't have salt water anywhere near. Hopefully you can find someone local to get it fixed up. Thanks for watching!
if you need one, i have a brand new short block for one of those cheap
When this thing blows up (not if) I plan on just replacing the motor with something completely different lol. I will definitely keep you in mind if something changes. Thanks for watching!
Thanks, good information and instructions.
Glad it was helpful!
Good video in case my screen goes bad. Was a concern as I've added a tilt-screen feature and if I break it, didn't want to pay Tesla's price.
Glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching!
Best video to date.
Yes the 13 mil Allen is stock on the lh head
Seems odd, I don't understand why they would use 1 different style bolt. Thanks for watching!
Everybody is tearing down 5.3 L whatever engines. The little engine that couldn't.
GM really screwed up with the stupid AFM.... Luckily, it's all going to go with what I have planned for it. Thanks for watching.
! Listening to you is like watching grass grow . Just get to the point 👉
after you drive the coil will set in place and lower
Yes, it definitely did a bit. I ended up having to raise the front up. Thanks for watching!
This car is Todd sized
lol, dang right.
Awesome 3rd gen.. as for holly EFI it works great just dont use the fuel pump that comes with it.. its trash go with something different. like aeromotive.
Thanks for the info! Also, thanks for watching!
Just did all 16 lifters on my l84 LT it was a lot different lol
Yeah, I was a bit taken away with the technology in these motors. A bunch of nonsense that can be deleted. Thanks for watching!
Was it different than motor he pulled apart?
How's the houghs torque converter working for you?
It’s good. I was hoping to see more of a change on the bottom end, but it’s much more drive-able at cruising speed, has more torque instead of being sluggish. Thanks for watching!
L83 Active Fuel Management (AFM) has 2 modes. 8 cylinder or 4 cylinder. Half if the cylinders have collapsible lifters ( 1,7,4,6). On a L84, all lifters are collapsible style. There are 17 different modes and firing paterns. Another difference, L84 has automatic start-stop ( engine shuts off at red lights). L83 doesn't have that feature
Sounds like a bunch of nonsense that I will be deleting. Thanks for watching!
Do you need to run 91 on these new L84 engines due to the compression ratio?
No idea, I doubt it. I’m sure the computer will alter the timing for any sort of detonation. Guaranteed 90% of the people driving silverado’s with these motors can’t afford 91 and putting the cheapest gas they can in. That includes me, if I had one that ran.
L84 are rated for 87
Did you consider any other parts manufacturers besides QA1? Just curious
Honestly I don’t remember the reason I went with QA1. I think it was just readily available and the price was comparable to other brands. I know CPP has their own stuff, but the website is clunky and hard to follow in my opinion. I do have to say I am pretty happy with it. I wish I had a front sway bar, but I refuse to spend $450 on it.
Props on the Zumba sign. Haven’t seen one of those in a while
Lol, I bought it off eBay after a long night quite a while ago. Completely forgot I bought it, then it got delivered and I was super excited again. Thanks for watching!
L84 has "Dynamic Fuel Management" where as L83 has "Active Fuel Management", both systems allow for the engine to run on 4, 6 or 8 cylinders for fuel economy. The old L83 AFM had been plagued with issues where as the L84 DFM has been pretty reliable. The are 2 completely different systems that do the same thing, skip fire. If you are putting it in an older car, just delete all of the DFM parts, 5.3s are known for running a few hundred thousand miles if maintained.
I am not 100% sure what I plan on doing with it yet, but definitely deleting the fuel management and VVT. Due to the cost of building it, I’m waiting for something half decent to stick it in. I had a vehicle in mind that would have been my wifes (which would be badass in my opinion), but now she’s kinda gone a different route.
The L84 has 17 different combinations. It even run on one cylinder.
I’ll bet that the new starter solves the hot starting issue. For GM starters, like the one you removed, heat soak is a common issue.
I sure hope so! It still mind boggles me that the key did absolutely nothing, but I could jump power to the start terminal, and it started with no hesitation. I'm not convinced, but if it fixes it, I'll take it. Thanks for watching!
The flames were painted on by Matt Woltmann in John's garage. I have a couple of tricks to get rid of mosquitoes. Both use paper towels. Take a square of paper towel. Make a row of coffee grounds. Roll the paper towel like a joint. Light the paper towel in fire. Second method is the same but instead of coffee use cinnamon and bayleaves. Spread toothpaste on the outside of the paper towel before lighting it. The rolls only have to smolder to keep bugs away.
You wouldn't have to do things alone if you included your wife. I just LOVE it when dad requires my assistance.
Looks sick, any plans on a tailgate or wheel liners in the bed?
I don’t have a tailgate, always liked it without one, but I would like to try and find one. I have the original wheel tubs, but they are too narrow. I’ve been looking for one or two I could cut 2-3” out of and add to mine. I see a lot of people just buy widened square body ones, but I believe they are shaped more square which I don’t care for. Only time will tell….. Thanks for watching!
Hola Amigos!
Great job on getting rid of the flames. I was worried that the oven cleaner would dissolve the blue paint as well
Yeah, you and me both. I guess I didn’t add in the video that the flames were painted on overtop of the clear coat. But all in all I think it looks great! Thanks for watching!
How can you say your suspicion was correct when the previous owner literally told you he had a lifter replaced (on the side with the new head gasket) and when a second lifter failed he pulled the engine lol.
People say a lot of things. Thanks for watching!
been there done that! Had a cam go flat in a 80 Camaro and replaced it with a used cam from a machinist buddy. New lifters and ran the snot outta it! No issues! Sometimes it pays to take a chance!
As long as it can make it through the summer, I'll be happy. Still need to figure out what I want to do after that. Thanks for watching!
You know how to work a shaft 25:09
Start an OF and use that money to build your motor
LOL, I don’t think that will work for me!
Do you know what generation the 96 Impala SS has? Thanks, Great Video !!!!
I’m not positive, but I would assume if it’s a 4L60E, it would be the 2nd generation like this one. There is a group of numbers at the rear of the valley pan on the tail-shaft housing that you can go online and decode. If your bell housing is part of the case then definitely the first generation. Thanks for watching!
im looking into buying an l84 good to see
Hopefully it helped in some way. Thanks for watching!
No cats ?
Yeah. I have 4; 1 calico, 1 siamese, and 2 bombay ones. Just kidding. No cats, not sure where you are from but Wisconsin doesn’t do smog testing or anything like that. Just loud exhaust citations. I was going to do an H pipe, but I got lazy.
@@CenterValleyCustoms comment removed. Folks around you don’t like the fumes Just ask
@@CenterValleyCustoms all I said was what about every body else in traffic and at lights , Run oversized cats You have the room
I never thought about running only cats, I’ll keep that in mind. I didn’t remove any comment, at least purposely. Thanks for watching!

Haha the June bug comment! The other night my 6yr old and 2 yr old came out into the garage to watch dad work on his truck! They both learned what June bugs are! The screams they made!!
