What Will You Do with 2025 part 2
In this lesson, Mathew delves deeper into a specific section of scripture where Paul reminds the young preacher Timothy about the persecutions and sufferings he has endured. Paul emphasizes that anyone who seeks to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will face persecution. He encourages Timothy to continue in what he has learned and firmly believes in, emphasizing the sacred writings that have made him wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

For those coming to the comments. No you do not have to be baptized to be saved. I got saved about 2 years ago. I got baptized this year. Baptism is a promise a ceremony for confirming you want to follow God for the rest of your life. Unfortunetly many people get baptised and then leave the faith later on in their lives. I will say I do not know what doctrine this church is. I am personally a Bible Methodist but if they are say Baptist or Calvanist they would disagree with me on some things.
AMEN
Amen. Great biblical illustration.

I see that you're reading from your TRUE holy book.
Lmao. So funny
Amen!
so does that mean you have to be baptised to be accepted into heaven?
Thank you for your question! According to the Bible, baptism is an essential part of God's plan of salvation. In Mark 16:16, Jesus said, "He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned." Baptism is the moment when we come into contact with the blood of Christ, as described in Romans 6:3-4, where we are buried with Him in baptism and raised to walk in newness of life.

Religion, the bible itself says that religion is a prostitute, why is that? Does reading the bible makes a religious authority? A pastor/priest? ...maybe religion is good, most people are not. They may join a religion with ulterior motives, idk, but it always the case. 😑
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! The Bible does warn against false religion and hypocrisy, which may be what you're referencing. In passages like Revelation 17, false religion is described as a harlot, symbolizing unfaithfulness to God. This isn’t a condemnation of all religion, but a warning against practices and beliefs that stray from God’s truth. True religion, as defined in James 1:27, is about living a life that honors God by caring for others and keeping oneself unspotted from the world. The Bible also emphasizes that no one becomes a religious authority or leader simply by reading scripture. Leaders in the church, such as elders or evangelists, must meet specific biblical qualifications (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-9) and serve with humility, always pointing others to Christ rather than themselves. You make a good point about motives-what truly matters is aligning our hearts and actions with God’s will, not just outward appearances (Matthew 7:21-23). Religion, when practiced as God intended, can bring people closer to Him and help us encourage one another in faith (Hebrews 10:24-25). If you’d like to discuss this further, I’d be happy to study the scriptures with you!
Justification by Works is not the same justification as Justification by Faith. It doesn't say Abraham was justified by Faith plus Works ANYWHERE.
When discussing justification, it's important to harmonize all scripture, as God's Word does not contradict itself. The Bible teaches that faith and works are inseparably linked in a believer's life. While salvation is a gift of God, not earned by works (Ephesians 2:8-9), our works demonstrate the genuineness of our faith. James 2:21-24 explicitly states: "Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, 'Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.' And he was called the friend of God. You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only." (NKJV) This passage does not contradict Romans 4:2-3, which says: "For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? 'Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.'" (NKJV) Instead, these scriptures show different aspects of the same truth. Paul focuses on the foundation of justification-faith, apart from earning salvation through the law (Romans 3:28). James emphasizes that genuine faith results in obedient action. Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice Isaac (Genesis 22) demonstrated his trust in God and fulfilled the faith he professed. In the Church of Christ, we teach that faith is the beginning of obedience but not the end. Jesus Himself said: "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven." (Matthew 7:21, NKJV) Thus, Abraham's faith and works complemented each other, illustrating that saving faith is active, not passive. The justification spoken of in James refers to the visible proof of faith, while Paul addresses the spiritual basis for righteousness-faith in God's promise. Faith and works are not in competition but work together to fulfill God's will. Faith motivates obedience, and obedience completes faith.
Thank you for sharing your perspective. From a biblical standpoint, the Bible is the inspired Word of God, intended to be understood and followed as the ultimate authority for faith and practice. While the Bible contains profound wisdom applicable to psychology, science, and human behavior, it is first and foremost a divine revelation of God's will and plan for humanity's salvation. Paul reminds us in 2 Timothy 3:16-17: "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." (NKJV) The Bible is not merely symbolic or metaphorical; it contains clear instructions on how to live, worship, and be reconciled to God. Jesus Himself treated Scripture as literal and authoritative. For instance, in Matthew 4:4, He said: "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'" (NKJV) If the Bible were simply a "cosmic psychology science book," it would lack the transformative power to save souls and reconcile people to God. However, the Gospel is described as the "power of God unto salvation" (Romans 1:16), offering hope and guidance beyond human wisdom. That being said, the Bible does contain profound insights into human nature and the workings of the mind, demonstrating the timeless relevance of its teachings. But these insights are a byproduct of its divine purpose, not its primary aim. Ultimately, the Bible's message is about leading humanity to salvation through Jesus Christ (John 14:6). I encourage you to approach Scripture with an open heart, seeking its intended purpose: to bring us into a relationship with our Creator.
@@edgewoodchurchofchrist5064 And the two are linked, but not in one single justification. Justification by Faith alone results in the eternal salvation of a man's soul, but there is also a subsequent and non-salvific Justification by Works. The letter of James itself tells us what Justification by Works is. Turn over to James chapter 1, and let's take a look at verses 2-3 and they read: Count it all joy, my brethren, when you fall into various trials, for you know that the testing of your faith works patience. (James 1:2-3) So, we can see that Justification by Works is about withstanding tests and trials of one's faith, not salvation.
Hold thoughts captive for Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5
Faith produces works.
Works of faith
I would have liked to have heard more because my immediate question was how Jesus was the focus for baptism when it predated him and John was baptising people first.
Great question. Paul answered this when he met men in Ephesus who had been baptized by Apollos' incorrect teaching. He said, "“John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.” (Acts 19:4). Even before Jesus came out to John, they were being baptized with a focus on Him.
Remember: a text without a context is a pretext for a proof text. There are answers to this. Read your Bible, listen to the best explanations from each side, be led by the Holy Spirit. Spread our Savior's Gospel Love.
We clearly disagree on the doctrine of baptism, but I concur with your advice. All should read and come to an understanding, and I do not want anyone to make a spiritual decision based upon a TH-cam short. In the sermon series there is a more complete explanation of baptism for the remission of sins.
@@matthewjones4139 Appreciate the response. Do you think it's a false dichotomy to present baptism for remission of sins as being (A) an "unsupported assertion" and (B) a "thus saith the LORD"? I don't know of anyone who would seriously hold to point A

If you're taking the Bible literally you are lost it's a cosmic psychology science book
As a former English major and literary lover in general, I acknowledge that there are different forms of communication in the Bible: some to be read literally and some figuratively. In more long form content, you will see such treatment. That said, Paul tells us that when we read it, we can know the mystery (Eph. 3:4).
God loves us so much he'll let us be tortured eternally if we don't believe he or hell exists. Hmmm
The nature of creation and the consequences of it spiritually have been debated for millennia. I hear your heart in that response, but I conclude it was in God's nature to create us as we are, and it is in His nature to rescue the perishing.
@ whatever rationalization allows you to continue to believe in nonsense.
his is your god loving you with your free will. so people that don't believe in god can not love? how is this he brought salvation down. he emptied himself in the son. what the hell does that mean. explain that to me. FREE WILL People possess natural freedom but their "voluntary choices" serve sin until they acquire freedom from "sin's dominion." What a lame way to verify that you have free will. Joshua 24:15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.” And did he??? That was what one person chose to do. That is not the norm for every person to follow. Proverbs 16:4 - The LORD has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble. He already knew the day of the wicked would come and he allowed it? Psalms 103:20 Bless the Lord, you His angels, Mighty in strength, who perform His word, Obeying the voice of His word! 21 Bless the Lord, all you His angels, You who serve Him, doing HIS WILL. He made some people wicked right from the start. No free will for them. Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen. John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me DRAW HIM: and I will raise him up at the last day John 10:28-29 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. John 15:16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit-fruit that will last-and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. John 15: 19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Romans 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. Here is all your free will in god’s plan for your domination over you. Ephesians 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. However, here a two individuals that didn’t have a free will. Exodus 7:13 And HE HARDENED Pharaoh's heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said. 14 And the Lord said unto Moses, Pharaoh's heart is hardened, he refuseth to let the people go. John 13:27 As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. So Jesus told him, “What you are about to do, do quickly.” GODS PLAN FOR YOU WITHOUT YOUR FREE WILL Jeremiah 29:11 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations. Psalm 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you. Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
Amen 🙏🏻
It’s so plain that you have to try to miss it.
Love this!! Thanks, Matt
The Bible says. For by grace are ye saved through faith not of yourselves it is a gift of God now of works lest any man should boast. What happened to that?
Cool, now repent and be baptized in the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit ☦️
Thank you for sharing that verse! Ephesians 2:8-9 indeed emphasizes that salvation is a gift from God, highlighting His grace rather than our works. However, it's essential to consider James 2:26, which states, 'For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.' These scriptures together illustrate that while we are saved by grace through faith, genuine faith naturally produces good works as an expression of that faith. It's about the relationship between grace and our response to it.
@@edgewoodchurchofchrist5064 faith though it may be dead is still faith. You cannot remove yourselves from salvation. NO man can take thyself out of Gods hand.

Keep preaching this, brother. Ananias was sent to tell Paul "all things which are appointed for the to do". (Acts 22:10; also Acts 9:16). Ananias was sent to give the command to be washed from his sin in baptism.
Even if he wasn't baptized he repented and accepted Christ and he was literally talking to God in the flesh this is a very specific case
Excellent point: This is the main point we get to in the sermon.
Not typically 66
the Catholic Bible includes the apocryphal books from the intertestamental period. Orthodox churches include some as well. Most bibles in the book store have 66 books in them. The course discusses why we appreciate some apocryphal books as historical but reject all of them as being inspired of God.

How can we know that we have God’s complete word if we don’t have any of the original manuscripts?..
That's an insightful question! While it's true that we don't have the original manuscripts of the Bible, we have an extensive number of early manuscripts and copies that have been meticulously studied and verified. Scholars have used these to reconstruct the original texts with remarkable accuracy. Additionally, the Bible's consistency across different translations and its historical impact further support the belief that we have God's complete word. Faith also plays a crucial role; we trust that God has preserved His message for us through these texts.
@@edgewoodchurchofchrist5064 The Gospel of Mark is our earliest Gospel text and it was written in Greek, 40 years after The Resurrection. Can you understand my point?
I was questioning for a minute because Mark 1:4 KJV says [4] John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. I noticed that it said John baptized and he preached the baptism of repentance for the remission of sin. But you clarified everything with Acts 2:38. Great message, I love the details of the topic.
