    Thank you for the video. This is an excellent example of how to deal with the surface bodies, and what functions of nx to use. I never used unsew function, I always used offset surface, value 0, to get the copy of the surface. What does the Cleanup facet body do? In which situation or on what facet bodies it is useful?

    • @fredriksandblom27
      @fredriksandblom27 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Edvinas V, thank you for your reply and the recognition here its a boost to continue providing solutions here. To you questions. 1. Unsew has been around for a couple of releases and is really handy to separate an area from a sheet or solid body for various purposes. Just to highlight, it is not a copy but the actual same faces that originates form the original body but in unsew'n state can be handled separate form the original body and support various worklflows and when done can be sewn back into the original body. 2. The bodies in the video; one traditional Solid Body (the green pipe) and one Convergent Body or facet body (bright blue). The convergent body is a body that is defined by a "cloud" of triangular planar faces. This is often resulting bodies from e.g a 3D scan of some sort. These bodies are not parametric nor mathematically defined (coordinates only). NX provides great strength in its Full Hybrid Modeling capabilities as these Convergent bodies can be mixed together with traditional sculpting and parametric molding - Surface and Solid modeling. This means that you do not necessarily need to reverse engineer e.g a scan of an object and redefine areas as analytic shapes to use them in your digital definition and manufacturing processes, you can leave them as Convergent Bodies (facet bodies) and include them in you workflows directly. Many of the traditional features also work directly together with the Convergent Bodies and there is no need to reverse engineer whole scans you can settle for a limited area and sometimes you don’t have to do anything - just use the Convergent Bodies directly in your workflow - as can be seen in the video. Extremely powerful and enables unlimited workflows. Now the Cleanup is a function that I highly recommend to always start of with as this will optimize the facet body input. If the body originates form a scan or another system there might be some quality issues where you e,g have Degenerated Edges, Folded Edges, Self-Intersections, Inconsistent Normal’s or Laminar Slits - The Cleanup Facet Bodies helps eliminate all these quality issues and in doing so ensures eliminating downstream issues before they become issues on e.g. imported STL’s from other systems or Scans. Best Regards Fred

    You made the statement "WAVE if you have it available." All NX bundles will have basic WAVE capability. The "Advanced WAVE" capability is a separate module, which is also available as a stand-alone license, and it is also included in "NX Mach 3 Industrial Design". What version of NX is this drag-and-drop available?

    • @fredriksandblom27
      @fredriksandblom27 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi @Rick in Texas! Yes you are correct, however the basic WAVE functionality will produce PDLO's only and require an assembly structure to be created and to exist associativity. Sorry I was a bit unclear in the video but the request was for how to copy entities from one part to another, non associative and with now supporting assembly structure (the one in the example was just to get a picture of what is going on and to explain the expected result). Copy and paste will work in some cases but when you as here want to just copy a face of a solid across you either need to WAVE link it or Drag and Drop Between Windows. Using the proposed Drag and Drop Between Windows functionality eliminates creating that temporary assembly and produce an entity in the target (non associative). The Drag and Drop Between Windows was introduced in NX12. //Best Regards Fred

    • @fredriksandblom27
      @fredriksandblom27 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Isaac Olsen, thank you for your question. Working with reverse engineering in NX is a really cool thing as you do not really need to reverse engineer everything - or anything. NX handles faceted bodies like Convergent bodies that can be incorporated into your workflow associativity. You do not need to reverse engineer more than you need (or at all) - meaning that if there are areas that you need to modify diametrically you only convert those areas. You can also modify your faceted body - all boils down to what you need and what would be you requirements. You have total freedom to define your process here. Now to whats been done in this video: When reverse engineering or handling facet data you need 2 modules in NX Polygon Modeling and Reverse Engineering. For whats being done in this video have a look to Replace Mesh with Face. This converts a selected area of your faceted body (Convergent Body) to analytic shapes that you easily can manipulate parametric. Really speed things up here.
