Apart from ensuring you have a chainsaw that is cutting straight, there's nothing to it (Check out the other videos for operating cutting). If you're having trouble with your saw not cutting straight, try the following: 1) Ensure bot left and right cutters on the chain are equally sharp and roughly the same length (or try with a new/different chain) 2) Ensure your bar is equally worn on both left and right side, if not, you need to re-shape it (or try to flip it around and see if that helps). I had 2) happen to me and it was almost impossible to tell the difference, but a small 0.5 mm difference made the saw track upwards. I sanded it on my belt sander to a perfect 90 degrees and it worked great after that,

Thanks for your coment! I've had this setup now for a few years and it works great. There's no risk for squeezing the risers - after all, this is usually done with a wrench, so there's now way you can apply more force with a wingnut.

They're plenty tight - I've used it for 2 years now without it every coming loose.

Approximately 150mm apart. They are spaced based on the torsion box beneath. I dont' think I'd want to have them closer together.

Yes, it comes with a 3/8" .050" chain. It's not vibrating at all in my experience

Thanks for the tip. Are you referring to the same log turner that I have in the video? Because that's super cheap and flimsy and not possible (even if you have two) to manage the kind of weight that I had on the biggest logs here. I could have set up the mill below the logs and set it up so I could roll them in a more horizontal manner, but since I had the excavator, it was just easier to do it this way for me.

@@Hackish yes, the one in the video is specially designed to allow one person to roll a log up a ramp. Logosol has a video about it.

@@johnshearing It might be user error (ie. my fault), but it's so flimsy that I doubt it would actually work for heavy logs. I wouldn't risk my legs for it at least

@@Hackish Okay well I just did it and it came out fine -- except that my square rails (not sure what you'd call them) don't fit! I don't know why I assumed they would be the same, when there's so much variation in chains. For anyone wondering, yes you can use an extrusion method, just rearrange the models so they are flat on the printing sheet.

Which model sharpener do you have? Perhaps that's the difference. Should be fairly easy to adjust I think. Great to hear that it works with extrusion!

Hi there! Unfortunately I don't have the capacity to create custom STL files. Out of curiosity, why do you want to file at 25°? If you're cross-cutting, I would go with the standard ~30°. If you're rip-cutting (cutting across), I would go with 10° like in the STL. I have cut oak and other hardwoods with these two angles just perfectly.

@@Hackish In most cases, 30 degrees and 10 degrees are useful, but when applied to x-cut 3/8, it's too aggressive to handle. I submitted your stl file to 3d laser up today and got a satisfactory answer. Thank you so much. I really wanted to do this, but I think I can finish it with your help.

I just measured mine and did a full sized cut and couldn't replicate your findings. Any chance you have a monday-version? Either way, I think you should contact Festool and let them know

Just tested and if you have the tall systainer that comes with the cordless TSC 55, you can fit it standing up. I also have an older corded version of the 55 and it does NOT fit in that container with the saw as well.

Agreed :D Everything Festool is overpriced - as in, they make a lot of good money on their products, so the products could certainly be cheaper. But that's just how premium brands are in all categories. You pay for more than you get, but you generally know what you get.

Hey, great question! I did the planning so that the holes would be in the middle of the torsion box, BUT you're totally right - I cant' rotate 100% freely, but it's usually just a minor annoyance. If you don't need the stiffness, I would just have a few (2-3) cross braces instead of the full torsion box.

@@Hackish I had the same question as @DIYMark A further question is: Do the spots you cannot rotate the clamp to create "dead spots" as far as clamping is concerned? I'm looking to build a relatively lightweight torsion box MFT as a workbench in my trailer so I want to build the ribs like trusses (triangulation for strength; less material for weight savings). Maybe lining up openings with the holes would allow for full clamping.

@@nelsoncarpentry YES, exactly right. It's a bit annoying, but not too bad. If I were to do it again, I would have either aligned them, or made cut-outs in the torsion-box.

Thanks for that! Winding down the lifters is not really a big challenge. Even with super heavy logs, you simple crank a quarter turn, disengage the cam and slowly lower it. For lighter logs you can just let it go, it doesn't go super fast.

@@Hackish They look interesting and are what I'm thinking about. I've decided to go mobile in my shop to allow me to move things around to create space, or put a couple of units together to give me a wider platform. That'll be a spring/summer project for me as I need to tear down what I have there when I bought the house and repaint the floors first; so, if are thinking of any idea for a video, I vote for that one.
