Super Simple Meathooks from Stainless Steel
In this video I show how to make super simple and very useful meathooks from stainless steel.
I've been making these hooks for a while and I'm very satisified how simple yet useful they are, so I thought I'd share how easy they are to make.
Since they have two hook-ends and they thread onto the drying rack or sticks, there's no chance of the meat/fish falling off.
The ends are REALLY sharp, so they easily penetrate even thick skin.
You can also safely carry your rack / ticks with the produce hanging safely through the stages of drying, smoking and then drying again without risking to drop it or having to touch/contaminate it.
In the video I use stainless steel TIG weldig rods like these: amzn.to/3qpPGlB but you can use any stiff stainless rods/wires.

Have a video on how you got a straight cut on you mill?
Apart from ensuring you have a chainsaw that is cutting straight, there's nothing to it (Check out the other videos for operating cutting). If you're having trouble with your saw not cutting straight, try the following: 1) Ensure bot left and right cutters on the chain are equally sharp and roughly the same length (or try with a new/different chain) 2) Ensure your bar is equally worn on both left and right side, if not, you need to re-shape it (or try to flip it around and see if that helps). I had 2) happen to me and it was almost impossible to tell the difference, but a small 0.5 mm difference made the saw track upwards. I sanded it on my belt sander to a perfect 90 degrees and it worked great after that,
That’s a great idea! Maybe a possible improvement of your idea could be to add a piece of pipe over the through bolt as a spacer, so as you tighten down harder you won’t deflect the aluminium risers… That way you could also use a regular nut and a driver to tighten it… But I love the idea to make this process quicker! I’ve ended up bringing the mill between locations on a trailer without taking it apart just to avoid this headache :-)
Thanks for your coment! I've had this setup now for a few years and it works great. There's no risk for squeezing the risers - after all, this is usually done with a wrench, so there's now way you can apply more force with a wingnut.
Сильно гайки теперь не затянешь
They're plenty tight - I've used it for 2 years now without it every coming loose.
Thanks so much for providing the STL files! I'll be printing this asap!

what is the distance each hole? 100mm or 96mm?
Approximately 150mm apart. They are spaced based on the torsion box beneath. I dont' think I'd want to have them closer together.
That could not be a any dumber of idea! Wow
Thanks for your constructive feedback :D I've had this setup for a long while now and it saves me a lot of time & hassle moving the mill. I'm very curios as to why you think this is the dumbest idea ever.
I love my Festool angle stop but wonder whats the reason for having four extra threaded holes? Do you know if this tool can be combined with the TSO parallell guide system?
Hey, I actually don't know. I don't have the TSO, so I don't know there either, sorry!
Hello! Does it come with a 3/8" pitch and 0.050" gage chain? Do you find it vibrating/jumping in the cut? I have one with the 1/4" pitch chain that is not so easy to find in my area so I think of switching to 3/8" but some people say it's not so smooth in the cut if muffler is not modified. What's your experience?
Yes, it comes with a 3/8" .050" chain. It's not vibrating at all in my experience
Great video, thanks for sharing. I should mention, the "log turner" is specially designed so that only one person is required to roll a log up a ramp. You could not have discovered this because you use the excavator for that purpose. It's special trick is that it allows you to reset for another lift without losing your progress. This is not possible with a cant hook.
Thanks for the tip. Are you referring to the same log turner that I have in the video? Because that's super cheap and flimsy and not possible (even if you have two) to manage the kind of weight that I had on the biggest logs here. I could have set up the mill below the logs and set it up so I could roll them in a more horizontal manner, but since I had the excavator, it was just easier to do it this way for me.
@@Hackish yes, the one in the video is specially designed to allow one person to roll a log up a ramp. Logosol has a video about it.
@@johnshearing It might be user error (ie. my fault), but it's so flimsy that I doubt it would actually work for heavy logs. I wouldn't risk my legs for it at least
Thank youuuuuuu!! I was looking all over for something like this!!! I'll be printing it this week!!!
Great to hear! Hope it works!
You'd love the 355t! Basically it's the biggest Echo top handle they make, lot's of torque!
Very cool! The 2511T actually packs a surprising amount of punch!
How do you this this would go with PLA/PETG extrusion? Obviously wouldn't expect such high quality but do you think the STL files would slice okay? Great idea.
Hey! Thanks! I actually haven't tried, but I'm pretty sure it would work just fine. The tolerances doesn't have to be that great.
@@Hackish Okay well I just did it and it came out fine -- except that my square rails (not sure what you'd call them) don't fit! I don't know why I assumed they would be the same, when there's so much variation in chains. For anyone wondering, yes you can use an extrusion method, just rearrange the models so they are flat on the printing sheet.
Which model sharpener do you have? Perhaps that's the difference. Should be fairly easy to adjust I think. Great to hear that it works with extrusion!

How do you get the table saw pin out?
Hey! I just push it through. It falls down to the lower shelf.
can you help me i'm now trying 30 to 25' 2in1 but i can't handle stl file oak so hard and i hope trying 25' 2in1 very good solution but 25' not selling can you make 25 degree stl file?
Hi there! Unfortunately I don't have the capacity to create custom STL files. Out of curiosity, why do you want to file at 25°? If you're cross-cutting, I would go with the standard ~30°. If you're rip-cutting (cutting across), I would go with 10° like in the STL. I have cut oak and other hardwoods with these two angles just perfectly.
@@Hackish In most cases, 30 degrees and 10 degrees are useful, but when applied to x-cut 3/8, it's too aggressive to handle. I submitted your stl file to 3d laser up today and got a satisfactory answer. Thank you so much. I really wanted to do this, but I think I can finish it with your help.
@@총각농촌 Got it! Glad you got some help!
I have just acquired the festool FS-WA/90 angle stop and I would like to alert you to a problem encountered. The top border near the Festool marking is indeed perpendicular to the ruler, but the bottom border is not! In fact, the 2 edges are not parallel, there is about a tenth of a millimeter difference in size at each end of the angle stop. When we multiply this by the ratio between the length of the stop and the length of the 1400mm ruler, we have an error of a good half millimeter of squareness!
I just measured mine and did a full sized cut and couldn't replicate your findings. Any chance you have a monday-version? Either way, I think you should contact Festool and let them know
Does it fit in the track saw systainer?
Just tested and if you have the tall systainer that comes with the cordless TSC 55, you can fit it standing up. I also have an older corded version of the 55 and it does NOT fit in that container with the saw as well.
@@Hackish Thanks for letting me know
It does seem expensive, but the amount of time I have spent measuring up ply and mdf sheets to cut square this is a time-saver, buy once cry once :)
Agreed :D Everything Festool is overpriced - as in, they make a lot of good money on their products, so the products could certainly be cheaper. But that's just how premium brands are in all categories. You pay for more than you get, but you generally know what you get.
Would love to see a shop tour!
Thanks for the request. I'm in the process of building a new workshop, so maybe it'll have to wait until I'm done with that.
Great video
Thank you! And takes for taking the time to comment, much appreciated!
I’ve been putting it off for years because of the price. Over £100 for a small piece of aluminium is robbery. I’m a big Festool fan, but they are cheeky with their pricing.
Totally agree that this is more expensive than it should be. But then again - everything Festool is more expensive than it should be...

Trolling YT looking for bench ideas. Thanks for the innovative ideas. Question regarding your MFT top... do the ribs of the torsion box interfere with table top clamps? How did you deal with it? Are the ribs strategically placed in between holes so the clamps don't hit them when rotated...I guess what I'm trying to say. Thanks again!
Hey, great question! I did the planning so that the holes would be in the middle of the torsion box, BUT you're totally right - I cant' rotate 100% freely, but it's usually just a minor annoyance. If you don't need the stiffness, I would just have a few (2-3) cross braces instead of the full torsion box.
@@Hackish I had the same question as @DIYMark A further question is: Do the spots you cannot rotate the clamp to create "dead spots" as far as clamping is concerned? I'm looking to build a relatively lightweight torsion box MFT as a workbench in my trailer so I want to build the ribs like trusses (triangulation for strength; less material for weight savings). Maybe lining up openings with the holes would allow for full clamping.
@@nelsoncarpentry YES, exactly right. It's a bit annoying, but not too bad. If I were to do it again, I would have either aligned them, or made cut-outs in the torsion-box.
My husband uses these plans from Woodprix and is very happy with them. However. I love yours!
Thanks! Glad you like them!
how is the sheet of mdf holding up. i am buidling a torsion mft box style bench . except my design deosn't really allow screws in the top so the top is not replaceable. i have a few coats of poly on top and hoping that will last me a few years

Plans for sale?
Hey Sean! Unfortunately I haven't made plans for the bench.
Thx for this video, which is super helpful. I have the F2 and it was a major problem to get the guide rail flat, so it was kind of interesting to see an honest appraisal of how hard it really is to get four 1m sections in a nice straight line! My question is about the log lifters though... I have not used my mill yet, and want to ensure I have installed them correctly. It looks like it's only possible to wind the lifters up, and to go down you have to disengage the ratchet cam. My worry is that if there's a heavy log on the log beds this would make a very fast, hard and dangerous descent. Am I missing something about the way in which these work..? I would be very interested to learn before I go put something heavy on it. Many thanks again for sharing.
Thanks for that! Winding down the lifters is not really a big challenge. Even with super heavy logs, you simple crank a quarter turn, disengage the cam and slowly lower it. For lighter logs you can just let it go, it doesn't go super fast.
@@Hackish Brilliant! Thanks for this advice. Cheers, Nigel
Nice. I'm noticing the two workbenches against the wall. That's looking interesting as a mobile set of workbenches with drawers that I'm thinking of building as I redo my shop. Do you have a video on how you built those?

@@Hackish They look interesting and are what I'm thinking about. I've decided to go mobile in my shop to allow me to move things around to create space, or put a couple of units together to give me a wider platform.
