Free Rangers
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 28 มี.ค. 2023
We like to travel with flexibility and make spur of the moment changes. It doesn't always work out and it isn't for everyone but it does make for some interesting moments.
I have re-titled this channel to "Free Rangers" from "Wheat Travelers". Why? Because my wife and I like to take minimally planned trips and make our itinerary on the go. Like our Beagle/Rat Terrior mix dog Spike (may he rest in peace after 17 years of life on this earth) when he was off leash, we like to go where our nose takes us.

For a major city the hotel prices were very reasonable in Chongqing.

Walking around Liupanshui we came across this shop making what I thought were Futons but were actually blankets made with cotton filling.

Our ultimate destination in Giuzhou Province was Liupanshui. It was during the off peak tourist time which was fine with us. They don't see many foreigners here so I kind of stood out.
#71 Longest Cable Car in the World
8 หลายเดือนก่อน
We happened upon this Cable Car ride. We were told it was the longest in the world. They had a promotion where the ride was free (normally $30) for a few weeks until the ski resort opened. It was a great opportunity to see the surrounging area from the mountain tops and to meet the very friendly local people.

#67 Guanshanshu Park in Guiyang
มุมมอง 38 หลายเดือนก่อน
We took a 10 day tour to the South to Guizhou Province by High Speed Rail. Our first stop was Guiyang, the capitol of Guizhou Province. It's an interesting and beautiful city with old and new areas. Our hotel was in the new area and the first thing we did was walk around the very large Guanshanshu Park near our hotel.

We spent the fall and beginning of winter in China visiting relatives in Shanghai and did some traveling around China. This was my first time back to Shanghai in 5 years. As always, there were many changes.

Here's a video of our 6 week trip last summer across the Western U.S., then Western Canada in under 5 minutes. Two more videos coming of the Rafting Trip on the Green River and our Cruise on the MarineLink working vessel out of Vancouver. We went from our home in California over the Sierras, through the Nevada Desert, climbed a mountain at Great Basin National Park, had a GREAT meal in Provo, U...

Mai's first river rafting trip! I didn't film the whitewater parts because we had to paddle but they were exciting!
#65 Exploring the Working Coast of British Columbia
มุมมอง 139 หลายเดือนก่อน
MarineLink is a working powered barge that services the logging camps and others in the inlets and islands of the Steward Inlet area of British Columbia. The 5 day voyage was spelbinding the whole way. It's intimate, with 12 passengers (6 rooms) and a very friendly and competent crew who are like family to each other. Believe me when I say this video doesn't do justice to how beautiful it was. ...

Great video! We will be going next year. Do you know if Amtrack has business class on the train? May I ask where you stayed while in Niagara Falls? Thank You.
I'm sure Amrtak has business class but I personally don't think it's worth it (only experience was on the Pacific Surfliner). We stayed at the Hampton Inn. Most everything was in easy walking distance. When we were there the Canadian side was closed. Many people we have talked to said they liked the Canadian side.

Thanks for the cool video. I am planning my trip from Lisbon. Couple of quick questions. 1- What was the border crossing to Spain like? How long did it take and what documents do you normally need? 2- Do all the buses have the same route to Svilla? Like Flixbus, Rede etc? 3- What is the name of the station where you took the bus from and was it direct or did you change buses in between?
They don't check your documents when you cross from Portugal to Spain (or visa versa). There were several routes we could have taken to Seville but we went the most direct way. The bus station we started from in Lisbon was Sete Rios. We took the Portugal Bus carrier (forget the name) to Faro then changed to Alsa (the Spanish bus company) because only Alsa crossed the border. It was all on one ticket though.

Would you recommend it ?
We enjoyed the train ride. It was relaxing with interesting scenery.
How was it?
Great. Enjoyed the train ride and looking at the countryside.
Not sure that is legal or good, disturbing the driver on a motorway asking for and giving back the toilet key. You should look online regarding storks in Andalucia, they are a well protected species, l have them on a church tower over looking my apartment and almost all fire stations have a nest too.
Thanks for the info on the storks. We got the impression while traveling around Spain and Portugal that the people there have learned to live in harmony with nature much better than we have in the states. In all fairness you've had thousands of years to do that whereas we are a fairly new country. As for asking for the key, I don't know why they just didn't unlock the bathroom. Everyone on that bus had to ask for the key. The bus drivers on all the busses we took were all very professional and safe drivers.
It's amazing that they will not allow passengers to use all the doors. That's insanely inefficient.
My best friend, Wonderful video dear. I enjoyed watching. Hope to see you soon...
I will never fly Iberian Airlines again. Ok, this is their discount airline, LEVEL, which is the only airline that flied direct from LAX to Barcelona, but no where on their web site or ticket did they say we were flying LEVEL when we booked the flight on Iberian Airline's web site. I had absolutely NO legroom in the upgraded economy section. When I looked at the economy section it didn't look any different than our seats. A waste of $600 ($300 each).

Great hike & lovely scenery. I just love the mountains in the northeastern US. Laid up with a torn meniscus, I'm not able to do any hiking right now so this was a treat. Thank you & cheers to you & your wife for a lovely week & summer.
We agree. Have to get back there again.
