Medical Device: Design + Animation + Video
Creature Feature 2019
Each year for Halloween I like to make a creepy monster movie as a way to challenge myself creatively, push my filmmaking and animation skills to new levels, and to have fun ghouling around the house! My birthday is also on Halloween, so I get pretty into it. My primary goal with this year's monster movie was to learn how to combine animation with real-life footage using Blender and the techniques of motion capture, camera tracking, and compositing.

Shouldn't yellow be cut?
Good question, and that is correct. In North America, the monopolar low-voltage continuous waveform (yellow) is typically called "cut" and the monopolar high-voltage modulated waveform (blue) is typically called "coag". As is emphasized in the SAGES Manual on the Fundamental Use of Surgical Energy, the names "cut" and "coag" can be misleading and do not accurately describe the actual tissue effects of these waveforms across all scenarios when considering the many factors (i.e. energy settings, type of tissue, type of device, electrode geometry, electrode/tissue contact vs. separation, dry vs. wet field, surgeon technique, time, etc.). The monopolar low-voltage continuous "cut" waveform (yellow) is more effective for this type of vessel sealing than the monopolar high-voltage modulated "coag" waveform (blue). It is interesting to note that the bipolar output (typically color coded blue) is similar to or the same as the monopolar low-voltage continuous waveform (yellow). In this example, I opted to use the yellow vs. blue color coding to identify the type of energy output as low-voltage continuous "cut" (yellow) vs. high-voltage modulated "coag" (blue) rather than to identify between monopolar (yellow/blue) vs. bipolar (typically blue). I hope to further clarify all of this once I can produce the Fundamentals of Electrosurgery series.
