How to Use Scopes to Color Correct and Grade Your Video Footage
Anything having to do with coloring your footage is a really big struggle for many filmmakers. Where do you being? What should you do first? When and how do you apply LUTs?
The biggest help for color correcting your footage are the built in scopes. What are scopes? They are a way to view how the colors are interpreted in your footage through various waveforms. When you know and understand how to read scopes it make the entire color process a lot easier.

How To Mic The Bride For Your Wedding Videos
Can you use an external microphone on these please?
I haven’t played with the color wheels but I get the vetroscope and the graphs
Do you mess with curves instead of wheels?
Thank you for the review. Does the on/off button on ML100 works the same way as SL lamps? E.g. if I set this on on, and unplug it from electricity and then plug it again, will it needs me to turn it on again or it stays on?
This light does not have an internal battery to hold a charge. So, if it is unplugged it will turn off.
@@HowToFilmWed Thank you very much for confirming this. When it turns off, does it turn back on automatically if I plug it back in or I need to press the button?
So helpful!! Thank you!
Glad it helped you!
Watched this video about 2-3 weeks ago, left the platform and immediately ordered this light. Took it to a wedding last weekend and it LITERALLY saved our BUTT! It was farrrrr too dark out there and if we had gone to the wedding without external lighting, we would’ve been issuing a refund 😳😟 We considered not taking any lighting because we already had so much gear to check at the airport and most times we get by. Something told me I needed this light. Ah! Thank you so much for this review.
This is incredible! So glad it helped you
Can I use a Godox ml100bi as a key light (versatility, portability & price; under $200)? Or is there a better budget option such as Godox SL60iiD?
I think for the price, brightness and size the ml100 is the best budget friendly option on the market
I saw the ads. And I saw it in a LTT video and they just called it a scam. Funny enough the segment after was shot with it and I thought it looked weirdly cinematic and actually pretty nice. Just really lacks sharpness. For 50 bucks you can definitely get better glass but I think that's not the point
Nice! What focal length do you use on your lens for above your monitor? Thanks.
I usually have my 24-70 up there at a focal length of around 30. In this video I put my 50 on there so that I could use the wider angle to film!
@@HowToFilmWed thanks for sharing!
Super neat!
Word.
Good job my dood
appreciate you!
I would not be comfortable doing this. If I wanted to mic the bride I would be asking a bridesmaid to do this.
Shipping to Europe is half of the purchase price on top off it.. :(
Hi guys🎉
✌...
WOW! I needed this a decade ago.
Didn’t we all?!
Amazing tips! Thanks a lot!
Glad it helped!
wish they can do one RGBWW version of something similar ... the neewer ms150c looks really nice , but it cant be powered off of a power bank
Why nobody compare ml100bi vs ml60bi ii?
Send me one and I'll review them it!
Shinobi is the model name, Atomos is the brand of the monitor, battery and cable. Atomos has the Ninja that is also a recorder if you need higher quality footage.
I always love yalls How To videos, thank you so much!! I am curious how you have your lights once dancing starts?
Good question! I typically like to have them on opposite corners, diagonal from each other pointing to the middle.
Please Make a full video about this! I need to learn more! Thanks😁

I like the idea of sitting the couple in the audience
It can add a lot!
great video nick....my question is what do you do when the venue maitre d forces the toasts to happen right next to the couple. when I ask to switch up the position of the toast giver, they'll say something like, "This is how we do it here"
I always communicate with my couples before hand and let them know how I like to do toasts. If the DJ or even photographer give me pushback I let them know I have OK'ed it with the couple. It all depends on if this is something you really want to push for (I know I do).
New to photography, I am wondering while both lenses are at 28mm focal length, why the pocket dispo is considered wide angle and the image is distorted but the other one not really ? Really great video!!
Which other lens are you referring to?
@@HowToFilmWed The sigma 24-70 at 05:35
@@alexlee8638 ah cool. The 24-70 is a zoom lens that can go from 24-70. Anything below a 35 would be considered wider angle . But the Zoom is what makes them different
@@HowToFilmWed Thanks a lot, but in the video both were set to 28mm. Maybe I did not formulate precisely. I'm wondering why there is a distortion for pocket dispo at 28mm but not for the sigma one at 28mm, since they are at exactly the same focal length. Are there any other parameters that differ between these two lenses, causing the difference in distortion?
Is there any way to power up this light with multi NP-F batteries to make it portable without the V mount? I am looking for an adapter. I am not sure if ML60 battery grip will help? any one tried?
You can power the lights via USB-C. They do make NP-F batteries that have a USB out on them - that could work?
Would this gimbal work good with canon r6 mark ll w/ 24-105 usm ?
As long as it is under the weight payload, it will!
Just bought it 2 weeks ago, love it. Small compact yet powerful, For the barndoor solution need to use the bowen mount adapter. another thing need to buy the v-mount adapter as the kit place the battery quite high , abit imbalance unless you are using heavy sturdy light stand.
What exactly should I be looking for with the Bowen mount?
@@HowToFilmWed universal, can reuse older bowen mount barndoor
what would be your update 3 weeks later you left this comment? (thinking of getting this light). Thanks!
When criticism is simply deleted 😄 a viewer has left the room.
What did you say? I don’t remember deleting a comment (but I very well could have).
When they release a versión with 32 bit float, is gonna be legendary
Exactly!
Thanks for the review. I have a vintage motorsports event coming up and figured I'd have some fun with this on the track.
Have fun!
This is the most comprehensive "circumstance-based" technique showcase I've seen on youtube!!
So glad it’s helpful!
The 660 needs to be set to low sensitivity. And you need to mono it in your editing. It sounds strange here.
Just looked and my sensitivity setting was on medium, that's a good call on it being low. Why are you suggestion mono on editing?
@@HowToFilmWed because it records in a wide stereo mic pattern. And for a narrative vocal you really want to control that to a mono and cut out a width or phasing for a narrative vocal.
Thanks for the info!
@@HowToFilmWed love the test tho. Super interesting to hear a good side by side.
I used to be big on using what was plugged into a soundboard as my main audio source, but more recently I find I’m leaning more towards the tx-660 for a few reasons: - some couples have actually fed back regarding audio sounding too flat (too clean) from the board and not being able to hear people laughing to lines etc. switched it to the tx-660 and they much preferred that. We’re making wedding films for normal people most of the time, not sound engineers/film makers. - the speed and convenience is unbeatable. Time can be a real pinch at weddings, it’s so much quicker putting these on than mic’ing someone up. I always want to mic each person speaking as some people decide they don’t need to use a venue’s mic! I do find them a bit “tinny” and can sometimes scratch a bit on clothing, but adding some base, denoise and dereverb can make them sound great and get lots of ambient laughter. I’ve never had a couple complain about the audio with the tx660, but have with soundboard recorded audio. I still record both and edit both then go with what I think is best for the couple, but I’m now thinking more “what would the couple want” rather than what do I think sounds the most professional.
Good perspective - thanks for sharing! With how the world is going I do wonder of about 'less polished' approach in certain circumstances. All good points!
@@HowToFilmWed yeah don’t get me wrong I still like to have at least 2, sometimes 3 different audio sources if possible and always check each time which I think is best. Sometimes the couple/wedding I’m doing also influences that decision - a more hyped up party type might suit the tx660 better with more ambient whereas a quieter more emotional day might suit the more polished cleaner sound better. Sometimes the speakers projection is so loud the tx660 has too much reverb for my taste even with some cleaning in post. All depends on the day really! 👍
It’s a great back up or run and gun quick audio. A lot of audio clean needed for busy atmospheres but if it’s relatively quiet and only the vocal is standing out then it will give you great audio. But you can’t beat it and the price. Great back up.
Yes!
This has saved my ass a couple of times when my recorder failed. Run a tx660 through adobe podcast and it sounds so good!
💯
Love the comparison! One other thing that does need to be considered is reverb. In some smaller rooms, especially with Rehearsal dinners, there is sometimes a lot of reverb that will not be picked up by the handheld mic but would be another thing to deal with in post and I find that recording straight from the receiver/sound system eliminates that issue.
Dude, yes. Reverb can be a pain to deal with. Great insight!
Sony TX-660: What would be the best configuration? I have it! I love it!
Get the mic strap that I have linked and put it directly on the mic for toasts.
@@HowToFilmWed What would be the best configuration for the recorder? I have the band for the microphone
Lately the recorder we've been putting on the microphone has saved us! Lots of DJ boards have been popping, peaking, or even going in and out so a lot of it is unusable. It's a great backup!
I 100% agree with you on that! From the example I shared it was very usable for me.
good option, but IMHO Instamic is superior (and it's 32 bit)
My biggest complaint with the Instamic is how it looks as a back up on the mic
@@HowToFilmWed you can put it on the side and shoot from the opposite angle, if it's so annoying to you. Frankly, considering its quality, I really don't care about how it looks (and neither do my clients) 😃
I bought a sleeve for my instamic...much smaller footprint on the mic...also have the tx660 as well which I love too!
I love my TX660. If they Made a white one with 32 Bitfloat then it would be perfect 👌
a white one would be pretty helpful - waiting for that 32 bit float!
Really well explained, thank you very much! I am subscribing.
Glad it was helpful!
@aputure @amaran hope you're paying attention to the company stealing your lunch.
Been using Amaran 60x's for weddings. I'm going to upgrade to these instead. Bonus, I can probably get twice as many in my bag in the same space as the Amarans.
Yeah you can!
Wow and all that for half the price of my 60x 😭 great video, I think I will be picking one up!
It's a great little light! Let me know your thoughts if you pick it up!
What song is this at the start of the video?
Brand New Me by BINKS!
The Smallrig full cage + vmount dovetail articulating plate is adjustable, compact, and quick to remove to strip down and throw onto a gimbal if I so choose (I don't usually choose).
you don't usually choose 😂
I recently used a rig at a wedding for the first time, and I really liked how convenient it was to have my monitor and camera powered by a V-mount battery. The added stability was great too. But man, it got pretty bulky and heavy after a while. Now I'm not sure if I'll use it the same way again or try to streamline it a bit. I wish I'd known about this FilmCube before I set mine up-I like how clean and simple this is.
It's a commitment and will take a little getting used to, but so far I really like rigging it out!
Does the size of the rig matter?
always.
You did all of that just to put a v-mount battery on an FX3?
For now.
