Assembling the engine in my sled. Everything went smoothly, two strokes are fun and east engines to work on! I also tried some voice over for the first time. I think I will do it more often, it will get better with some trial and error. Let me know what you think! Follow me on all the socials @CurtisWalshMedia

2008 Skidoo MXZ 600RS | Engine Tear Down
มุมมอง 14K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Scrapping the engine in my sled and finding out what exactly failed. It's a fun engine to work on with a few quirks! - I tried leaving the audio over the sped up clips, let me know if you prefer that or music. Also, sorry about the GoPro audio. I forgot about the noise until I reviewed the footage. - Thanks for watching! @CurtisWalshMedia on Facebook, Insta, Twitter and TikTok.

Removing the trashed engine in my sled. It's a relaxing, easy project to do. I missed the two-stroke simplicity. - Can you tell I haven't filmed a video in a while? I tried to cut the rambling but that's my default. Hah, let me know your thoughts in the comments! @curtiswalshmedia on the socials

A quick ramble about the status of the vehicles! I probably should have talked about myself more, but I wanted to keep this short without cutting it up. Also, unfortunately the second GoPro didn't save the video file, even though you can it was recording in the video. I'm not sure what happened there, it recorded other things that day. Cutting Up My Subaru STi - Bodywork Part 1
มุมมอง 875 ปีที่แล้ว
The start to the necessary bodywork on my car! I do a quick explanation on what needs to be done and cutting my teeth on the trunk. It went well! I enjoyed welding thin metal more than I thought I would. I've been on the fence about posting this video, as it may not be relevant soon. I will explain in a few days! :) Thanks for watching, as always! @curtiswalshmedia on Facebook and Instagram

I like to take off the clutch thingy n keep reeds n y pipe on and take motor out
Love this bike. Has it for 10 years before I sadly has to sell it due to electrical issues (I park my bike outside and have no garage). The weather and moisture finally got to it despite keeping it covered 24/7.
For the sheer insanity of what it can put you through, the 2007/08 R1 is just so easy to ride. Such a sweet bike to get on with most of the time. The motor absolutely kills above 8k, it starts to wail like a siren at that rpm, then it shifts to real angry snarl around 10k, and from 12k it’s downright furious. The power from 9k on makes your spine tingle as you hold onto the clip-ons. Overall, the engine makes it clear you should absolutely not mess with this motorcycle unless you really know what you’re doing. Sadly - I didn’t, and I had to sell it. It is docile enough for almost anyone to ride, but it allows you to tap into the levels of performance only very few are ready for and can competently handle. I loved it, loved hearing it come onto that 8k wail again and again, loved the Kayaba fork, loved the brakes, the way it was so stable and easy to handle, the seat was comfy enough, it was even suitable for long rides. But under all that I constantly felt like it merely put up with me. Also, the pace that flatters the 4C8 is so far out, you are always in danger of not just losing your license but ending up in prison outright. And it will gladly take you there in 3 - 4 seconds - it wants to take you into that zone and show you what it can do. TLDR: It’s meth. Don’t do meth
For clarity - I owned mine for 3 years, put on braided lines, race pads, 1-down front sprocket and 1-up rear sprocket, full MIVV exhaust, ECU reflash, Gilles rear sets, lots of ASV / Evotech stuff too. Got sag adjusted to my weight, actively played with suspension settings (fork and shock are both honestly first class). I tracked it loads, loved it too. In the end the 4C8 was just too raw, too hardcore to work as a street bike, or an only bike. It’s such an explosive machine I felt bad holding it back tbh. Would I buy it again? 200%, in fact, I’m on autotrader right now looking for one. There’s loads of newer bikes which are just better (been looking at ST 1200RS, BMW M1000R, Tuono, RSV4 etc etc) but they’re all like drinking really posh instant coffee, when you can have meth instead.
The best R1. I'm going to get one.
my r1 is pretty clean
i love my r1 i have a 2008 r1 ,ecu has a tune in it ,mid pipe and yoshi on the back it makes about 200 hp , and im not done modifing yet ,im gonna go through the motor and build it for 300 hp n/a

I just bought a new GoPro how did you get your audio so clear?
Yes boy!
It looks like you deleted your oil injection
🏁🏁🏁
leave plugs in to prevent anything from falling in there and plug all exhaust and intake ports just blue paper towel works awesome stops small particals from entering the motor.
I had the original 98, now on the 05. The styling on the 07, 08, is somewhat of a characture, of the previous. The 4 valve engine is very powerfull, but the bike also gained weight. Nothing like the first gen cross planes though.
Hey I'm seeing that this video on that these comments are a little bit older but I'm wondering if anybody can help me out I took the top half of the motor out with the cylinders and I was trying to get some of the antifreeze out without draining it and it was using an air hose and it was my first time ever taking an engine apart so I didn't do my research very well. But I'm pretty sure I got antifreeze splashdown into the crank area at the bottom of the Rod's. Do I need to drain it or pull the motor out and get all the antifreeze out of the bottom end of the motor. I would assume so I've always heard that liquid in the motor is not good I'm not sure how much is in there
Had one and regret selling it 💯%
NEVER sell an R1, any R1, unless you really have to.
I have an 09 600rs and on a cold start it will run just fine but as soon as the engine gets warm it drops to one cylinder. Any helpful ideas?
Cheers nice video from Nfld Canada ! I almost bought the same sled last week with the same “clutch” noise ! Glad I didn’t get it
Hey are you still on here? I have some questions.
Nice work, I have a new to me 2010 rs600, previous owner didn’t know it was hard jetted and ran 330’s, I ended up throwing some 360’s and the sled ran beautifully, except it melts pistons in the midrange, gotta play with the needle. Just waiting for parts.
Can you tell me what your settings are as I am hard jetting a 09 and having some issues.
At 0:45 Crank bearings that need to be manually greased ? I ve never seen that.
Looks like it was a great day. I’ve got to fix my brothers 05 600 MXz and found your other video on the fuel system. Good vids 😉👍Subbed. I’m in Alberta, which province are you in?
Wait too fast for me to watch and get anything out of it
Coming from a 636r b1h this bike rides lush & comfy , even the mirrors 🪞 work 👌 - no elbows hogging the view
But its harder to thrash lol & as we all know. Thats were we reap the most reward , it's gona take some getting used too
You forgot to do the Y pipe first before tightening the heads if not oil leak lol
Here's a little tip put your exhaust y pipe on cylinders and tighten them before tourqing your cylinders it's centers your cylinders and prevents exhaust leaks .
Nice video
No loctite 518 on the base gasket?
This is my all time fav bike. This gen r1, especially in black. I used to ride with a guy who had one back when i was a new rider. Needless to say I couldn't keep up with him. But i always admired how gorgeous his bike was. 10 years later and now im an experienced rider and i know a lot about motorcycles, and still nothing has come out as sexy as this bike. Maybe the panigale.... maybe...but definitely nothing else on two wheels is as sexy as this gen r1, to me. Not even the newer r1s. Now im on my 3rd bike and still haven't got my hands on an r1 but its definitely bucket list lol
Facts, 100% agree, just got one last week, rode it made me feel like a kid again dreaming of riding, fixing it up so I can ride now (small chip in crank case) but man it's so sexy and nice last guy got candy paint done on it 🤤 nothing new compares
At 10:16 there is a small 90 degree oil port for the water pump, what is the port that is slightly larger to the right (mag side)?
Hi Curtis, any walkaround video of your R1? Would like to check it out!
Hi, Could you comment on the heat dissipation from the bike and would you recommend a R1 for a hot and humid condition . I am from india and the 07-08 R1 has been a childhood dream Thanks
It doesn’t bother me, even on a hot day. Though at speed the aerodynamics of the bike make it so the heat stays around your legs. At our climate it’s a non-issue. Though super hot temps may be more uncomfortable. No worse than any other motorcycle though!
It runs hot - 70c in a 14c ambient temp my zx6r would be @ 63c today & it heads up quickly in traffic , although keep moving by filtering i haven't seen over 92c & it cools just as fast when you get going again
It runs very very hot. Under seat Cans. I've ridden it, not bearable at slow speeds. But I still want one.
What about the engines temperature while riding in city traffic conditions??
Km/h, right?
I loove these videos!
The stator bolts that go right thru to the crank is where you inject isoflex into the mag side bearing!
great video
Looking to get a skidoo rs what are some things I need to look out for and really know right now I have a 2010 Arctic cat 800
Nice job on your rebuild. Great to see someone go right threw it crank and up. very helpful for us do-it-yourselfers like us. Only advice I can give is putting the wye pipe on before torking the heads helps center the heads avoids leaking exaust gaskets. I'm no pro just watch a lot of videos made sense to me. Thanks and keep up good work.
Appreciate the tip! Thanks for watching Joesph.
Getting plastics all off is a pain in the ass. No more lift the cowl on sleds anymore. Geeze, even changing plugs are a pain in the ass on these newer machines. 2012 800 etec tnt.
Good to see you young guys not afraid to tear down and do your own work. We didnt have how to vids or youtube growing up. Service manuals only and they were always brief or confusing. Cheers
Nice upload bud. Was a great watch ! Cheers from ontario
Thanks Kyle!

NCC-1701 how did you make out ? I'm about to do the same rebuild.
Can you run the rs’s on 91 octane? Or just race fuel. I am looking at getting one but can’t find any information
You can run it on 91 with the hot start button disconnected and a jetting change! Join the ski-doo race sleds facebook group.

You obviously don’t understand it.
Wow, what a useful comment.
hi just wonder how many foot pounds you torqued the crank case bolts
Sorry buddy, I can't remember right now. The info should be on the forums!
Never thought of turn the motor over without torquing the jugs to center them
Seemed to work well!
I usually put the Y pipe for the exhaust on to center the jugs I'm gonna try the way you showed in this video next time! Thanks for the tips and video good content bud!
Excellent
Great job
