2023 Silverado 6.2 2nd Oil Change
The truck now has around 6k miles on it and I like to change the oil around every 3k so this is the 2nd change. This is mainly for a documented oil change for any possible warranty needs in the future. Please let me know what you think?

Is it normal to find metal shavings in the 1st oil change?
@jgz79 Some say it is and others don't find any shavings. It appears to be a gamble.
Hello. Shouldn't the carter be removed and cleaned?
@levanikoxreidze3524 Hello, I am not sure what you mean by carter?
It appears there's not much of a representation of the "OLD" cars @ these events, correct?
@Kman You are absolutely correct. It appears most shows now only have newer models. I haven't really taken video recently of this event. I will attempt to upload one soon. Hopefully more older cars will show up.
@@todaywithbk Sure, & are you in this area, Columbia?
@Kman I sure am.
@@todaywithbk OK, then we'll meet up @ point in time. Have you got one you bring to shows y/self, or do you just do the videos for now? Look for me @ the next event...not necessarily @ a Cars & Coffee, but a show for sure <thumb up>
@@Kman. I do bring the C7 or Camaro SS on my channel to local events! Hope to see you!!
Any more Camaro videos planned?
@Pitchpullin5 Most definitely!! I have to change out the power steering as well as I intend to install a short throw shifter.
The ruby red 40th anniversary is the king of Corvettes to me. I didn't know that they offered a factory hardtop for the convertible model.
💯
Just found your page. I just watched your tranmission fluid change and now your spark plug replacement video. Now waiting for the engine coolant change you mentioned. Also, if you could, would you do a brake fluid change video as well?
@alexrodriquez1993 Thanks for subscribing and I definitely intend on uploading both the coolant flush and brake flush soon.
Do you know about what time frame that might happen? @@todaywithbk
@@Vinceoverton82 I just saw this. Hopefully in the next few weeks if I can get some time to do it. Thanks for checking!
So when you took the drain plug out, and had it all drained you out the drain plug back in, before filling? Was wondering what was the point of the fill plug getting undone, what’s the purpose on that? I’m about to do this tomorrow just trying to be sure, I seen you taking out the fill plug but you don’t fill it from the bottom you filled it from the top so is that full plug holding that vent cord in the engine bay?
Thanks for watching. The upper plug is a check plug if you are filling it when the fluid is hot. It should be barely draining and that means it is full. I decided to drain and refill the same amount when the fluid was stone cold from the top.
@ so I’m literally going to be driving there it’s about a 10 mins drive, and then starting the process so you think it’s going to be cold or should I wait a little bit, no matter what you have to fill in from above right? Not that side fill plug cause that’s impossible to fit something in there. The side plug (upper plug) is just a check plug really right? I still have to go above and take that valve off to fill the tranny? And just watch that side plug when it starts dripping?
@JurpiiGamebattlesUMG I would let it cool down and then put in the same amount you drain if you have the time. Mine shifts flawlessly after doing that. Good luck!
About to do this today on my Buick if I measure the amount that comes out ( let’s say it’s 5qt) then I add 5 I should be good right? I’m trying to NOT have to measure with the drain plug
@UnapologeticallyMike Yes, it was around 5 quarts cold. Good luck!
Just got one and for some reason it opens by itself while I'm driving and it will lock it self to the half way point. Have you dealt with this issue?
Thanks for watching. Starting at 43 seconds into the video, I covered this problem. Let me know if you have any further questions.
What's your asking price for the riding mower
@KountryTime-n5y I appreciate you checking, but it is not for sale.
Nice review! I just bought a 2024 Colorado ZR2 and this looks like the best bed cover for me as I want to use the T-rail system in the future for an overlanding rack. I searched around and Truck2Go has the best price with a Black Friday discount as well.
@jjparks667 Glad I could help and I am completely satisfied with mine! That is an excellent truck you bought, enjoy!!
you can pull the fuel pump fuse n spin the engine ove if ya worried about oil getting to the motor
Thanks for the tip!
Thats why you check the oil when you get it home the oil should be clear.
You are correct. It’s always good to check things yourself.
Did you use the Dexron VI Merc mix or did you use Acdelco?
@jorgesalcedo2063 I used Dexron VI. Hope the video helped you.

buenas tardes! agradecido por la información! desde Argentina!
Thank you for your comment and you are welcome!!
The screw head to the rear is the one to use to fill the hydrostatic oil. Just an FYI.
Thank you!!
BK, I've had my Recoil for 2 weeks now. First setup, the rails were exactly 57" apart all the way along the bed. With that the cover would bounce out of the first set of locks when I hit a bump. So I pinched the railed more at the tailgate clamps. Seemed to be better... BUT IT POPPED OPEN AGAIN THIS MORNING. What is the total distance between your rails at the canister VS at the tailgate. This is getting very annoying
@djhybernate19 I used the provided bar for fitting it correctly. I measured mine and it is 56 3/4. Definitely make sure you loosen all brackets before adjusting. Tighten the tailgate area brackets first and then move forward. Hope this helps.
did you just hand tighten the oil filter I noticed the PF63 oil filter I got from the dealership has a very thick gasket on it.
Yes, I always hand tighten.
@@todaywithbk ok thanks for the info. 👍🏼
@jdub3103 Thank you for watching!!
Did you change the oil completely or partially? How many liters of oil does it hold if you change it completely?
It holds a total of 9 quarts, but I just drained and refilled.
Hello .I took a chance today and replaced the antifreeze/coolant on my 2017 1.4 liter gas automatic transmission Cruze. It was easier than expected. I found a drain valve on the passenger side of the rad. It is on the side of the rad and even has a spigot for attaching a rubber tube. The valve is not that easy to see, but not that hard to get at, and no plastic panels have to be removed from the underside of the car . Of course I started the procedure with the engine cold. It took a long time for the antifreeze to drain out, even with the cap of the antifreeze overflow container off, and I was only able to drain 4 liters of the 6 liter coolant capacity .After closing the rad drain valve, I was able to add about 3 liters of a 50/50 mixture of GM 5 year antifreeze and distilled water to the antifreeze overflow container and then I started the engine, and ran it until the rad cooling fan came on. The coolant temperature gauge got to the half way mark . I periodically squeezed the rad hoses and burped air into the rad overflow container. I had no hot air in the car, even though both thermostat hoses were hot, but after I shut off the engine and then turned it on again, and I had hot air ???. I let the engine cool down, and then had to add about 1/2 liter of the mixture to the rad overflow container. I then took the car for a drive until the rad temperature gauge again got to the half way mark, then let the engine cool down, and then had to add another 1/2 liter of the mixture to the rad overflow container. I did not find any bleeder screws. I was only at 41,000 miles, but I was over the 5 year mark. The old coolant looked clean, but that is not an indicator that it is still good.
@HerbSch That is great that you did this. Just a tip that radiator drain can be done hot (just don't get burned:) The reason you added more and no heat at first was the vehicle needed to warm up for the heater core to flow warm air. I intend to upload a video soon doing this project.
Hi Everything seems to be working OK now. I was puzzled why I did not get any heat initially. I had the heater and heater fan set on high throughout the procedure. I was hesitant to replace the coolant because of the problems I had bleeding the air out of the system on two different non turbo cars I had in the past, even though they had bleeder screws. I look forward to seeing your video, and if you get all 6 liters to drain out. I also did not check if there were any frost plugs. Thanks
That truck has too many fuckin lights and shit
Love it in my kia but then i start to lose focus so i go back to pedaling
💯
Great video! I got 10 hours on my ZT Elite (26hp Kohler Engine) and I got the 300 Hour Kohler oil kit. It was about $50 for the kit (Amazon) - includes 2 qt oil and a Kohler filter. From what I read, I will be good for 300 hours before my next oil change (even thru the winters) because of the special oil and filter. We'll see.
Thank you for the compliment! I appreciate the information about the 300 hour kit. Let's keep these mowers going!!
Thanks for your detailed video about changing the tranny fluid on a 2017 Cruze. Could you do a video on how to change the coolant. I can't find anything on TH-cam. Is there a drain on the rad ?. How is the air bled out of the system ? Are there bleeder screws ? Thanks.
Thank you for the compliment! I will definitely try to video a radiator flush. Most all vehicles have a drain cock on the radiator and have to be bled through the upper reservoir when filling. Hopefully, I can get to that soon!
The hydro is supposed to take 2 qts of oil correct not 1 gal and why is there no reservoir on the 2024's
Approximately 2.5qts per axle. I am not sure why Bad Boy changed things.
Excellent Video. Told me exactly what I needed to know to do this (aka teach my son) how to do this. He has a 2017 with 95k that has a long 2nd gear shift. We will try this first.
So happy to help! I look forward to hearing your results. Thanks for watching!!
I’m having the same exact bro, did it work?
I bought the exact same mower a couple of weeks ago from Tractor Supply. I only have around 5-6 hours. I bought an oil change kit off Amazon for $23-$24. It has the Kohler oil filter and Kohler branded oil. The kohler oil is supposed to have a high level of zinc.
Great to hear! Enjoy!!
How do you remove the nut to open the port?
I have yet to actually change the fluid. I was just showing the location.
How much bed space do you lose?
@Kookaburra4509 Approximately 1ft near the cab area for it to roll up.
@@todaywithbk thank you!
Beautiful Car love that color.
@victorjohnson2093 Thank you!!
I recently bought one just like that one with the 60 inch deck.

What type of transmission oil does it take?
Dexron 6
Thank you very much! Another question, and excuse my ignorance, what size is the socket with which you remove both screws?
@@leonelortiz7825No problem. 11mm
I am 99% ready to buy this cover. I have it saved on the Truck2Go website in my shopping cart. Does it's rattle when you drive around? If so, how bad and how is it on highway vs. city speeds.
I have driven a 7 hour trip and around 3k miles with it installed and zero rattling or any type of noise. It is solid and even makes the truck more sturdy at highway speeds, in my opinion. Good luck with the purchase. You won't be disappointed!!
@@todaywithbk Thank you so much! And thanks for making the content.
It’s a solid product! I have the Pro and zero noise even at 80mph. Don’t hesitate to buy it.
@anthonyv2645 how do you like the PRO? I'm in between the PRO and the RECOIL. Part of me wants to be able to select where I can lock the cover, also saving a little bit of money. How annoying is it, if even, to push it open when you use it? Any comments or concerns in general? Do you wish you had gotten the Recoil??
@@djhybernate1984 I wanted to be able to lock in any position so I went with the Pro. Also, the Recoil could potentially have issues with the spring in the future.
Love the sound of the LS3 V8 first thing in the morning!
@Ray-pj3ve Yep, 6.2 for the win!!
One & only brand new truck i ever bought, i done first oil change at 600 miles. Then again at 1,500 miles then 5,000... & every 5,000 thereafter. Was it excessive? Maybe, i don't know. But it made me feel better i done my best to keep the break in shavings outta the engine. Good video & nice truck ! I looove my Silverado.
@Lambert_Life Thanks for the compliment! I plan to keep it as long as I can. I intend to keep changing my oil often too.
Is that 0W-20?? P¡$$ water.
You can blame the engineers for that.
Thanks for the video. Just wanted to throw some info out there for Cruze owners if it’s not already known. I just picked one up from an auction . Only 70k miles great condition. Had a misfire cylinder 1. Ultimately found that the piston was cracked which is a common problem for these cars according to the Chevy forums. I ended up changing all four pistons. Anyway, to avoid detonation please use Premium Fuel!
@anthony6972 Thank you for the helpful information!!
Love this new addition to your truck!
Thanks for watching!!
Glad you told me it was 5 quarts!
What do you think about that oil being so thin, almost like water?
I have owned several 5.3 trucks with the 0w-20, and yes, I have always thought it was very thin, but with these tight variance motors it seems to work.
Hey! Good look trailer. Picking up one this weekend. Could you confirm its a 2 inch ball and not 2 5/16? Also do you know the lug pattern? Is it 5x5 or 5x4.5? Thanks
@jimh5829 Thank you, and it is a great trailer. It is a 2 inch but I am not sure of the lug pattern. I will try to find out.
Lucky! Wow super rare gem. I love the C4.
💯 Thank you!!
Thank you! You’re the only one with this video. I was going crazy thinking mine was the only one with no reservoir!!
Too funny! I am glad to have helped!!
Same here! My owners manual has photos of the reservoirs, so I was tearing my hair out trying to find them. Many thanks!
Glad to have helped!!
Dream car right there
Definitely!
Now you need to modify it
Don’t flush the tranny. Drain and fill with the same amount that comes out. Repeat if necessary.
The oil filters changed. The new PF63s have a different top plate. Way better flow especially with a cage and no metal core. OEM MUCH BETTER.
@John115Yonkers Thank you for watching and for the information!
1`st thing my 2025 5.3 will get is 5w30 at 500 miles.
Great plan! I intend to upload a filter opening from my first oil change.
@@todaywithbk I would dump that 0w20. It`s too thin number 1. AND GDI engines dilute oil number 2. So, what happens with these long oil change intervals with GDI and water oil? Engine failures and at least oil consumption complaints. And screw GM`s 0w20 spec. Ever look at the 6.2 spec for the vette? Or the 4.3 and 6.6 in the 2500`s?
@@puncht37another great idea!
I'd use 10W-30 if outdoor temperature permitted it. More base oil. Less polymers to shear down. Lower Noack volatility. 5W-30 is good for winter, though.
@@Shadows-RC Agreed.
It states in the shop manual not too remove the fluid level plug unless the engine is running then you have to let the transmission warm up to operating temperature and when the fluid starts to come out of the hole it's full then you reinstall the plug before you shut off the engine
Thanks for the information. I am aware of that. As I said in the video, I just measured what came out and put the same amount back in since the transmission was cold.
So how's it shifting. I can't really tell cause I'm still on the lift
It is shifting smoothly without any problems. I could feel an immediate difference in just shifting into gears, and it is really smooth at all speeds. Let me know how yours turns out.
I got my zt elite this past Saturday and realized Sunday evening it doesn't have the hydro fluid containers don't see them on yours either thats going to make it hard to change our fluid when time comes
Thanks for noticing that. I put out a short video regarding the two refill ports. th-cam.com/video/CiJ1So7X37k/w-d-xo.htmlsi=l8Fc9mYup1KsrF5s
