In 5 years the demand for EVs is going to fall off a cliff. Especially in California where electricity is 35 cents per kw and rising, not to mention they have killed solar with the introduction of NEM 3, there is a 80% drop in solar installs in the last year. Moving forward it's going to be hybrids because EVs are too expensive to charge here in Cali.

Tesla are driving the price down of their new Model 3 and Y, so it's obvious that the residual value will fall. Tesla don't care about residual value; all they care about is selling new cars. As the market saturation increases then prices will come down further, and residual values will continue to plummet. Simple economics.

The depreciation is usually not even close to the amounts claimed by anti-EV groups but it is usually irrelevant to the people that own the cars since they tend to hold onto the car. On a month-to-month basis, EVs are cheaper than ICE. In the very near future the capital cost will be cheaper as well.

Also Liquid fuels have around a 50% tax while an ev has no added electricity tax & the car is subsidised by governments if governments stopped paying for part of the cost & taxed for usage on the road. @@danieledwards7271 Oil is heavily subsidized. EVs are taxed more than ICE cars in most states for road tax. Once you take into account the cost of CO2 in the atmosphere there is no comparison. Even with the depreciation, the month-to-month of an EV is still way cheaper. The capital cost will also be cheaper in the near future and is already at par for some car types like MG4.

If you want a higher resale value for your Tesla, you should avoid selling it to a dealership. The current Model Y will drop in value even more as soon as the new facelift comes out, and that's soon. It's the best time to get a Model 3 Highland, not the Model Y! A 40% drop after a year is not shocking to be frank (the first year is the year a car loses most of its value), the period when EVs did not devalue much if at all was during Covid and is now over, it was mostly due to shortage of chips, that's no longer the case, and will not be the case for a while.

The phantom breaking you refer to has been a "feature" for several years in the 'auto pilot' version as well. Still unable to fix it despite the accident in the tunnel at the beginning of the year where the Tesla Phantom braked and caused a multi-car accident. No one was killed but lots of damage to several autos. Phantom braking is a known problem with Teslas, which is getting better, but still not fixed. Would like to see the promised review of your Y since you seemed to have some reservations about it. All the best.

Ended up with Big Bend, Sasquatch pkg, soft top, modular bumper, etc. Not exactly what I wanted but have been adding mods and I’m loving it. Also, when I took delivery at my dealer, they offered me 10k above sticker if I would be interested in selling it back to them.

@@RichardPeterShon I care about the environment which is why I drive an ICE car. Mining the land to get Lithium is devastating to the planet and the water supply. Additionally, burning the different forms of bituminous coal, subbituminous coal to make electricity is equally harmful. The use of minerals including lithium, cobalt, and nickel, which are crucial for modern EV batteries, requires using fossil fuels to mine those materials and heat them to high temperatures. In other words, EV's are harming the planet more than helping it. During the manufacturing process an EV car pollutes the planet 80% more than an ICE car. Don't you find it strange that you only hear the good things about EV, and never the bad. Nothing is free and everything has a price. Why isn't the government publishing both sides of the equation? Just like how the government mishandled COVID, this is also being mishandled.

We just got our third Tesla. 2016 Model S , 2019 Model X way too many problems 2022 Model Y. The Y is in my opinion garbage. I was unaware that you had to pay $200 per month for the parking and semi self driving which in my mind drops the car from the mystic of Tesla to a Chevy volt. The key card is stupid sometimes the phone doesn’t work and to pay for a car key (fob) seems a little desperate. Always a big fan of Tesla and Elon but the Y is junk . The others I leased the Y we bought it so we may take the hit and get rid of the car. Quality of Tesla overall in my opinion is going down
